This was the first song that I ever danced to with someone I had feelings for. It came on while I was stargazing at like 3am with my first girlfriend and even though neither of us like country music we couldn't help but dance to it. I just remember my feelings being so strong and not being able to stop smiling that night.

This song was really important in a past relationship and it was playing during what I consider to be my first time actually feeling romantic love. My partner and I were dancing in the rain to this song and having a great time and we both started crying from such intense happy emotions. So everytime I hear this song, my heart fills up and the memories and details of that day flood to mind.

I first heard this song before I was even a teenager somewhere around age 12. When i heard this song i was honestly dumbstruck that Nas was able to sum up the nature of life so succinctly. It helped me realize that suffering and struggle is common across the human experience to varying degrees.

This song came on the radio the day I was moving into my first house in Austin with my housemates. It somehow felt like it matched the vibe of moving and hearing it made me very happy in that moment. Every time i've heard it since then, the memories of that day are brought up in my mind.

Everytime I hear this song I remember dancing with my friends to it while goofing around after classes junior year of highschool.

I have a deep seated memory of listening to this song while dreaming of pulsating purple storm clouds and each leaf on every tree coming to life with a face and them all waving in the stormy breeze while smiling at me. Yes that sounds insane but it's such a beautiful memory for me and it wouldn't have been the same without this absolutely perfect song. Anytime i've heard it since I melt away from the physical plane and am enveloped in a feeling of being a small part of something bigger.

During sophomore year of highschool I had this group of friends and we would all go driving through the state park near our town after school and listen to music. We all got really really close that year and this was one of the songs that would always get played because it was one of the group members' favorite song. It just reminds me of those old friendships and the fun we used to have together.

I liked this song when it came out but the way Jordan Peele used it to set the scene during the first few minutes of Get Out brought it to a new level of appreciation for me. I've always been incredibly interested in the use of music within film and I can still remember the exact feeling of watching Get Out in theaters with the movie's opening scene as well as the long winding landscape drone shots being heightened by Redbone playing in the background. One of the top 5 most powerful uses of music in film in my opinion.

This song is in Django Unchained, one of my favorite movies of all time, and the very first Quentin Tarantino film I was able to see at release in theaters. I remember being indescribably mind blown at the cinematic masterpiece and triumph of storytelling that I was having the privilege of witnessing. Especially the way the soundtrack to this movie carries forward the narrative and feeling of each scene palpably rather than something only there to provide backdrop. I still get the chills everytime I watch this movie and hear this song as well as the whole soundtrack and its important to me because I have a massive Tarantino obsession.

My name is Colton Clements, I am a sophomore UT business student studying at the McCombs School of Business. I am a huge film buff and have a particular interest in the films of Quentin Tarantino and Wes Anderson. My music taste is all over the place but while i'm listening to music that I like, my favorite thing to do is imagine a movie scene that the song would fit perfectly into. I would have to say movies and music bring me the most joy in my life and are my favorite uses of free time.

While piecing together this soundtrack I tried to center my focus around songs I like that have exact memories and feelings attached to them in my mind. These are not really representative of the milestones of my personal life but rather a recording of the times i've felt the deepest emotional connection to music throughout my lifetime. The following songs are all songs that to this day, if I hear the song played, I instantly think of the accompanying memory and feel the emotion that the song represents in said memory. They are organized in the order they happened in my life starting with earliest/ youngest.

While creating this soundtrack I discovered that I have more musically centered emotional memories than I thought I did. I always knew music was an important thing to me but to sit down and actually pick out some of those songs and write about what they mean to me shows me just how integral music is to my emotions and who I am as a person. I find it very interesting that just because a certain song was played often during a period of my life, i remember that period and the emotions associated with it THROUGH the song. In other words the song represents that period of my life in my brain and all the memories contained within. I had no idea in the moment that those moments would be as special to me as they are but my brain was already busy making connections and recording the feelings associated. I also find it interesting that the songs I connect with the most are not my favorite songs by any means and had the significance of each memory not been there I may not even know or like the songs on this soundtrack. I appreciated gaining this insight into myself through this exercise and I expect I will be more aware of the intersection between pieces of music and highly emotional memories in the future. I hope the readers/ listeners of this soundtrack can relate to the deep connection between music and memories and I hope you like these songs!
