Explain different reasons why a child may require a specific diet

A child may require a special diet because they are a vegetarian . Being a vegetarian me that you disagree with eating meat, you don't think it's the right thing to do. If The child is vegetarian it is probably because the parents/carer have influenced it onto the child because they don't want the child to eat meat either. There are still a lot of food choices available to vegetarian if a child is a vegetarian, they can eat things like jacket potato with beans and cheese. This is the healthy food option. Another example of this is they can eat omelettes with salad. A child might also like eating a roast dinner which uses Quorn meat instead of meat.

Food allergies can be a cause of why children need hey specific diet. For example, if a child is allergic to something; they have to be careful to make sure they avoid foods that contain it.

Lactose intolerance is where you can't have products that contain dairy. Children with this condition need to limit on avoid products that have there in it. Lactose is the sort of sugar found in milk products.

Coeliac disease is a common digestive condition were the small intestine becomes inflamed I want able to absorb nutrients. Children with this illness need to have a gluten-free diet.

Cystic fibrosis is where children need to have a lots of calories, to help them with their disease. Fats and vitamins can easily leave their bodies, so the need to eat lots so that body can work.

Some children have a specific diet, due to what religion they:

If the family are Hindu, then this means that they cannot eat any meat that comes from Macau, which for example is beef. Quite a lot of people that are Hindus, don't eat any meat at all. Hindus encourage people to be vegetarians. They think that towels are special, and should get looked after, not killed and then eaten.

Some people that follow Buddha don't eat any type of meat.

Christians believe that you should not eat meat on Fridays full stop apart from that they eat everything else for example meat and veg.

Peoples diet can depend A lot on their culture and where the family came from. Some people in another country may have a very different idea of what food is than you have.

In some countries, they eat animals which in other countries would be thought of as pets. People from some Coke cultures my eat very hot and spicy foods.

In Australia, people are used to eating and enjoying a wide range variety of foods from many countries because they have people from different countries that live there too.

Most people in the world buy and grow food. Some people, live on the food that they grow. Also some people cannot grow food so they have to buy it. It depends where about they live.

Describe ways in which adults in earlier setting can children to make healthier food choices.

Adults in earlier setting can help children to make healthier food choices by, making healthy snacks available to the children. Four example slices of fruit, yoghurt or cheese and crackers.

Another way is by being a role model, so because children look up to what the adults do, if the adults a healthy meals then hopefully the children will want to do that to. The adults good help this by overly enjoying the healthy snack/meal in front of the children therefore making them want it to.

Giving the children the choice, will make them feel more free and in control and not forced into anything. Encouraging children to eat healthy is really important well they are young so they get into a routine of it hopefully when they get older and carry it out. Stuff in the setting could also said PE lessons this is encouraging them to do exercise and stay fit, this is keeping them healthy.

Adults in the setting could put posters up around on walls so that the children can see them. Make sure the children feel comfortable about asking for fruit/healthy meals/snacks or drinks for example water or sugar free juice.

Babies need around 500 calories a day and more each day the older the child gets.
All children are unique and have different needs. All children dont have the same needs.
Babies will start on milk. But should then try to involve fruit and vegetables. This is to help them grow big and strong. They just need to keep drinking alot of mil, this helps develops their muscles, and teeth. If a child has an indivdual need that needs extra support with, then you should help support it as a main requirement. A childs body must be balanced. It is the parent/ carers role to help do this. At this age range they need to start processing other foods. For example, potato, meats, vegatables. These are imporant to help make a child strong and develop well. It can take time for cjildren to get used to eating these types of new foods. They need to be slowly shown new foods, and not given all at once as it can cause them to become physically delayed, this can effect their life alot, especially in the future if it is still a major issue for them. Adults can help with this by giving the child small portions a couple times a day to help get them used to eating that type of food. As they get older they will start to eat more solid foods, this might take a bit longer for the child to get used too. It helps to monitor the children and how them eating/ trying different foods is going. When children are starting to try different/ new things, it helps find out if the children have any allergies for example some children have to be aware of foods that conatin nuts, or if a child is lactose intolerance, which is where a child can not eat or drink dairy products. Children are normally around 4-6 months when they start to eat solid foods. If children try to eat solid foods before hand, it can be dangerous as it can be a choking hazard to them.
