The symbolism of the apple in a bad way is that the apple changes over time, and so does Jonas's life. Throughout his life, so far, he has gone from a zero to almost a twelve, and through that he has loses things and got things from his life. Just like an apple gets bruises

The Receiver’s house is different from other houses in the community because in the Receiver's house is filled with hundreds and hundreds of books, the locks on the doors, the more detailed furniture and the on and off switch on the speaker. The purpose of the hundreds of books is because he need to know all of that knowledge to tell the next coming receiver. The lockers and on and off switch to the speaker's purpose is to give the Receiver privacy to concentrate on all of his memories. Lastly, the purpose of the detailed furniture is to show that he is the most important member in the community.

The actually process for transmitting memories is first Jonas was commanded by the Receiver to take off his tunic then to lied down on the bed. Then the Receiver tells Jonas to close his eyes as the Receiver puts his hands on his back to transfer the memory. Finally the memories is transmitted to Jonas/ the receiver in training. The first memory that Jonas received was the first time he experienced snow.

On page 98, Jonas says, “I thought there was only us. I thought there was only now.” I believe the meaning of this quote is that Jonas originally thought the there was only his community and a few communities around his, he didn't ever think that there was another world without people telling you what to do and climate control and they got to live freely.

Jonas is surprised when The Giver turns the speaker off and locks the door because Jonas thought that no one was allowed to do that or had any of that in their houses. An inference I can make about the privacy of a normal citizens in this world is that there is no privacy because there are people watching over them making sure that they are following the rules and not breaking them.

So he can learn about the world before his community.

In the Giver the utopia is known for getting rid of all bad things. Pointing out someones differences is a bad thing so they put them in all the same clothes and everything about everyone the leaders try to make the same. In the sneetches they called people out for their differences but they soon realized it doesn't matter what differences we have. But still in Jonas' community they have prejudice people, some people get late night shifts because people believe they cannot function with a spouse.
