This website explains how to get help with student loan debts, how to talk about it, and, if needed, how to get help. It also explains how it can affect an individual's life and personal finances, with Interest rates rising for student loans as high as 8.95%, meaning they would pay a higher amount in the future. Student loan debt can also affect relationships, with divorce being the primary cause of student loan debt. Lastly, it discusses the dos and don'ts/warnings.

I chose this website because it talks about how Students are constantly under mental pressure to graduate and find a job to repay the debt piled on. Because of that, they seek professional help because it is mentally exhausting for them if they cannot manage to repay it.

It also shows the percentage and loan amount according to the province and the study level.

The most shocking was the doctorate because that is one profession we need a lot of, and how will students pursue it if it's so costly? It is significantly higher than the others but not much cheaper either.

According to the website, the average age with the most student debt is 20-24.

The average student loan debt in Canada is approximately $28,000. The provinces with the highest student debt are Ontario and Nova Scotia, and women are the most frequent withdrawers. This makes me realize how broken the system is.

What did you learn about the topic that most surprised you?

The topic was very interesting, but the surprising part was learning that the average student who graduates either does not have debt or has reduced debt. Still, many students borrow not for their studies but for living expenses while attending school. For example, 22% of students at public universities and colleges borrow at least $30,000 for living expenses only.

This topic is very much related to me because I also had a student loan. Thankfully, I was not in debt, but I did get into the trap of paying extra interest, which I could have avoided significantly if I had been more cautious and planned accordingly.

The most important thing that would be knowledgeable to pass on to a family member / friend would be to consult with a professional who would help you for your benefit and not theirs, who educates you on how to handle your finances. Plan and get to know more information and ask questions until you thoroughly understand the concept of a loan to avoid being in debt.

He also provides much more information on how to plan and keep track of the debt and talks about his experience.

The most surprising part was when he said that the government only gives you 9.5 months. That's scary because when I had a student loan, I had a year to repay it.

They discuss six reasons why student loan debt should be treated differently from other debts. The first point is that credit card debt should be prioritised over student loans. The faster you get rid of it, the better off you will be financially.

There are many options for repayment for student loans, especially federal student loans, which have repayment options. The most popular is income-driven repayment, which is highly affordable, making monthly payments.

Besides mortgages, student debt may be the largest loan many Canadians take out in their lifetime. If one entirely financed their education, they might likely graduate with over $60,000 in student debt. Doug Hoyes, a Licensed Insolvency Trustee, explains why consolidating may not be the right step to take with your finances.

Combining multiple outstanding debts into a single loan reduces the payments and interest rates you must worry about. Consolidation can also improve credit by reducing the chances of making a late payment or missing a payment entirely.
