"The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude." The 15th amendment purpose was to ensure that states, or communities, were not denying people the right to vote simply based on their race. This was created after the abolishment if slavery. It protected men of color's ability to vote.

Passed in 1920, the 19th amendment was the amendment that guaranteed womans' right to vote. Before the law was passed, first wave fminism was a big movement in the US. Its effects could be seen in a variety of places, such as fashion and pop culture (flappers). This rise in feminism, combined with the catalyst that was the Seneca falls convention, led to a massive women's suffrage movement. Eventually, because of this the US ratified the 19th amendment.

Back in 1870, the 15th Amendment was supposed to protect the right of African Americans to vote. But it wasn't adequate, as some states went to great lengths to keep black voters from the polls. Efforts to bar black voters included the establishment of poll taxes, which required African Americans to pay fees to vote. While rules were made that allowed many white voters to be exempt from these taxes, the rules did not apply to black voters. The 24th Amendment, which was ratified in 1964, made poll taxes illegal.
