 My name is Thomas Briggs (call me Thom, not Mr.Briggs! It makes me feel old...)

I am a 5th year Ph.D. candidate here at CSU. I am from St.Louis, Missouri, where I attended the University of St.Louis Missouri and obtained a B.S. in economics, a B.S. mathematics and an M.A. in economics. I have worked in the insurance and financial sectors in New York as an agent and margin analyst, respectively, previous to my academic endeavors.

My economic interests have been largely inspired by the study of rational addiction as well as social and cultural structures in society that cause certain individual human behaviors. I have written about such subjects as abortion, domestic violence, women's autonomy and disparity in wages by race. My dissertation topic is suicide and the economy.

My general interests are: reading, video games, chess, cars and computers.
