In this talk, we discussed consumer habits in terms of media trends such as what media types we are digesting the most in everyday use. For example, a big topic of discussion was the performances of media in pandemic and post-pandemic times. Print Media defied expectations with the Print Book markets doing exceptionally well. However, the overall trend in the Print Newspaper and Magazine market is on a steady decline. Another interesting trend in the TV and streaming industry was the huge domination of streaming platform, Netflix. With over 80% of people with a streaming service subscribed to it, 74% of current subscribers do not intend to change anytime soon. Another unexpected statistic was the fact within social media, Facebook is still the most popular used platform. Despite this, Facebook usage still dropped globally for the first time ever with 50% of GEN Z admitting to not using the platform in the last 3 months. Additionally, we discussed the importance of influencers in the modern day market. Over the pandemic, lots more (43%) of people are spending more time looking at online creators. We discussed the importance to stress to marketers that influencers have the ability to cross over to multiple fields and are not just one type of person (e.g. streamer, artist, boxer).

This talk was extremely insightful in the industry I would like to work in (Advertising) and gave me an in-depth look at the media formats that matter and will make a difference in the future, especially within consumers purchasing behaviour. We looked at the expansion of social media's target audience and how it is broadening beyond the younger generation and Gen Z's. This is important within the way we look to advertise as we look to target both young and an older, more mature group of people.

In this talk, we were spoken to three different creatives in the industry. Each person discussed different aspects of elevating your potential even further. One person spoke about how they used their interests in Photography and Theatre to push their work in Architecture in something they weren't initially enjoying to due to 'Long Hour Culture'. Photography was her outlet into ways to open doors and find new networks. Another person spoke about the three main work structures, which ones were dominating and why. We looked at the differences between working for a limited company, being self-employed/freelanced or being part of a co-operative. we also looked at the trends and what especially is taking place in the creative industry and more progressive approaches. Within each sector, we discussed why they were organised in this way and the politics hidden behind them. For example, the limited company approach is way more rigid, hierarchy orientated and profit motivated. However, working freelance allows more life balance slippage, isolated and unpredictable.

Although I wasn't particularly engaged in the beginning of the talk, I was able to learn a lot of information I didn't know about work structure systems. Especially, I learnt a lot about co-operative work systems and how they are run and what their fundamentals are. This is something that particularly intrigued me due to their progressive, egalitarian approach. I like how their work structures are based around democracy, there is no hierarchy and everyone involved has the same amount of work. Although there aren't many of them they are contributing a lot to society and seems like something that is very well suited to brand based companies within the creative industry.

This was a fun and insightful workshop where I was able to learn how to use a new type of machinery that was initially alien to me. What surprised me was how quickly I was able to pick up the process of making 3D products on computer aided design software and then how simple it was to get it prepared to print. This would be a useful method into making prototypes or trying to experiment making something in the future.
