Orphan Train Girl is set during a little known time in American history between 1854 and 1929 when orphaned children were sent from the northeast to the midwest. Orphans went to live with families as indentured servants and  provided free labor in exchange for food, shelter and the promise of being sent to school. Students looking for a book with female main characters around their age or who enjoy reading books about history will enjoy this book.
