Estates General Meeting

Louis XVI: I hope that this meeting will be able to solve our financial problems. The first and second estates will truly help with where the money should come from. Surely the third estate will be able provide more money for the economy. After all, they have been paying all the taxes for years without any complaints, so how can a little more hurt? Life has been pretty good, with all the food on the table, the third estate must be living a good life, considering that they still get to keep half their salaries. If this meeting goes how it's planned to go, the financial problems will become less prominent and my and Marie's life won't have to change. The first and second will give me my decision while the third estate will go with it. As long as the meeting goes as it has for years everything will be okay, right?
https://bit.ly/2XfnP9V

Tennis Court Oath

Rousseau: I am proud to see people finally taking a stand against monarchy and seeing their true potential. When they were locked out of the Estates General Meeting, they broke down the door to the tennis court and pledged to stay there until a new constitution was made. The third estate finally took a stand to the bias order of the government as saw how important they are to the government. They forced the king to see their side and agreed to the new constitution and signed it. Even though it only brought on a limited monarchy and not a democracy, it's still a step in the right direction to liberty. The National Assembly being made showed to importance of the third estate and forced the king to hear their voices. The Tennis Court oath helps to bring the people to liberty, and brings them closer to a democracy.
https://bit.ly/1kJDYOa

Fall of the Bastille

Duc de La Rochefoucauld-Liancourt: I cannot believe that people rioted Bastille for gunpowder. With so much gore too. The French citizens didn't just take gunpowder, but they also tortured and even killed some guards. It astonishes me that they even cut off the head of De Launay. I could never fathom how violent the third estate could be until after the riots at Bastille. The storming of Bastille truly showed the power and strength of the third estate, and I am frightened for the future of the monarchy. We've under estimated the third estate, but we will not longer. I now see the overwhelming power of the citizens and I think they're seeing it too. The fear is what is fueling them, and giving them more power than what they had before. The fear for their lives, for their family, and for their country is what's giving them strength that they didn't possess years before. This was no revolt, rather the start of a revolution.
https://bit.ly/2GEJUJY

Marie Antoinette: I have never been more scared for my life, than I was on that October night. Thousands of angry Parisian women stormed the Palace of Versailles. Luckily, I escaped to my husband's room before the could do anything bad to me. That sadly wasn't the case for everyone. The women had killed and beheaded some of the palace guards. All of this was over bread. There's so much food, how could they not have bread? They made me and my family leave our beautiful palace, and go all the way to Paris. While we were going to Paris, they carried the heads of our guards along the way. I don't understand why they would all do this over bread and why they hate me so much. I am truly scared for my life and I think that the citizens are upset with us over something, but I don't know what because we've doe absolutely nothing and we haven't really changed anything. I'm just hoping that my family will make it through this and that everything will be over soon
https://bit.ly/2GVFnlI

Robespierre's Reign of Terror

Robespierre: The revolution is moving in the right direction, but not fast enough. People are starting to get scared straight, and are learning to support the revolution instead of go against it. I hope that they have all learned what their fate shall be is they ever think about going against it: death. It's good that they're supporting the revolution, but how can I know for sure? I have to keep the terror going if a new and better government is to be formed. Maybe, a republic of virtue. Without terror, than virtue is powerless. The terror must go on so that everyone will learn to agree with this republic of virtue, and if they don't agree or help enough, then off with their heads. The country must become one, and this can only happen through fear. This can only happen if the terror continues on and everyone learns their place in society. I understand that my thinking was contrary to this before, but times have change and the revolution must go on. Everyone will learn that my way is the right way of government, and the fear will make sure that they will continue thinking this. The terror must go on.
https://bit.ly/2T1TuNP

Royal Family Tries To Escape France

Louis XVII: My family and I have recently tried to escape France and get help, but sadly it failed. I thought that our plan could work, we'd leave in disguises and make our way to Austria and get help. It was working for quite some time, until one of the commoners asked to see our passport. When my father showed the man our passports and showed himself as king, I thought that he would let us continue on, but he didn't. He told others and instead of them being on our side, they were against us. It was absolutely terrifying seeing our once loyal citizens, forcing us to return back to Paris. I still shudder remembering this. It was as if they saw us as the enemy, as if we were Brits. I remember a time when they would cheer when they saw us, now they seem as if they hate us. I'm very fearful now knowing that they see us as traitors, and I worry for each of our fates, especially my fathers. Only time will tell if my family and I can make it out of the revolution with our heads
https://bit.ly/2SYEMHd

Execution of King Louis XVI

henry essex edgeworth: Today, was one of the most horrific days of my life. King Louis had asked me to walk with him as he went to the guillotine and I accepted. I wanted to be there to comfort him until the very end. At first when we were walking, I could tell that he was nervous and scared, but for his final steps, he didn't need me to support him anymore. He had made confident strides to his fate, knowing that in less than an hour, his head will be off and he'll no longer be alive. I had admired him as he attempted to say his last words, and confront his citizens as they were all cheering for his death. Even when no one was going to listen to him, and he knew it, he still tried to get them to hear his warning about the future and the blood that the revolution will shed. His words have stuck with me and I am very fearful that he may have been speaking the truth. That this is only the being of the blood bath, but I continue to pray to God that he is wrong. Hopefully no more French blood will be spilled due to the horrendous revolution. May God be with us and end this terror and bring peace to all.
https://bit.ly/2H0I45s

Fall of Robespierre and the Directory Takes Power

Napoleon: I'm glad that Robespierre is now gone, along with his head. I had agreed with him and his ideas before, but then he became hungry for power and lost sight of the whole idea of the revolution. I am sad that Robespierre dies, but I believe that he had died long before his fate of the guillotine. I believed that he started to die when he agreed that Louis should die by the guillotine. Since then, he had slowly started to die as his ideas and values changed, until he was filled with nothing except the need for power. Now that Robespierre is gone for good, I'm curious about this new government being put in place, the Directory. It's to my understanding that five men will have executive power. I am hopeful that this will benefit the country rather than hurt it more. I hope that since there will be five instead of one man in charge, that laws will be passed justly and not just because they can. I am doubtful that it will work since no one really knows where to go from this If they can't get the Directory to work, I just might have to take matters into my own hands.
https://bit.ly/2BRXx4r
