When they were telling us about this project I found the process of it interesting. How everything was so different from their usual norm because it was being made in China. I find that the process is extremely important because it dictates the final outcome, and sometimes it is even more valuable than the final outcome itself. You can learn a lot from the process, whether it is in the digital sense or not.

I definitely enjoyed the trip to Jason Bruges, it was an overall pleasant experience and getting to see the workshop and how things are done is always enlightening. I appreciated that they didn’t do all commercial things. We live in a business world where everything is about marketing and consumerism, and I feel like the digital world sometimes has a tendency of falling back on that aspect of the business. It was nice to see that this studio still remained creative and objective of whom they are as a business.

I think that the Digital Double installation is a suitable one. I like the idea of making something digital out of something that has so much historical value. The combination and contrast of both of these create something very rare and unique.

I think this is a very clever way of teaching other nations about the UKs historical heritage. The installation attracts the younger generations as well, since it has that idea and concept of “playful”.  This kind of design that targets such a large range of ages will attract a larger audience, making it more successful. I think people this work creates curiosity in the audience, which makes them engage more and want to learn about the historical context as well as the craftsmanship and creative talent that the UK can bring.

I also appreciate the fact that there is only one door that tours the whole world, instead of having them made in bulk. This gives the door even more culture and a bigger story, as well as giving it a lot more value. I think it would be interesting to be able to track the routes the door takes by putting a GPS on it and creating a sort of platform where people can see where the door has been over the years and learn about the countries and cities that door is touching as well.
