I’ve never really thought much about how the world was created. In Genesis 1, I found some answers. It says that, “In the beginning God created…” (1:1). It then goes on to mention the 6-day process of the creation of the world that we live in now. On the first day, there was light, and there was darkness. What we know as day and night. On the following days, there were the creations of; heavens and oceans, land and vegetation, the sun and the moon, animals, and lastly, humanity.

God created everything perfectly. He created humans in His own image. Given that humanity was created in his image, we possess the quality of dominion. We are to “Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground” (1:28). Everything was good. On the last day, after all His work was done, He “blessed and sanctified that seventh day” (2:1-4).

In Genesis 3, we are introduced to a serpent, that is basically the embodiment of Satan. As we all know, Satan is an evil being. We see an example of this in the very first verse. In verse 3:1, the serpent makes the woman doubt God’s word by twisting it. He starts off by saying, “Did God really say…?” Then, as he slowly gained her trust, he completely flipped what God said. In this case, whilst God told the woman that she would die if she ate from the tree, the serpent told her that she definitely wouldn’t. Therefore, she was tricked. She and her husband ate the fruit from the forbidden tree. By doing so, they committed a sin of rebellion. God saw that they disobeyed him and cursed the grounds, made childbirth painful, and had men rule over women. God not only punished Adam and Eve, but the serpent too. From what God said to the serpent, we find a prophecy. This prophecy about Jesus says, “he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel” (3:15). This means that Jesus will destroy Satan, but then he will die to come back again.

In Genesis 4, there’s another story about a man who sinned. The main character of this event was Cain. The event happened as Cain and his brother, Abel, each brought an offering to God. God favored, Abel’s offering, but Cain’s, not as much. Cain got really jealous because of this and murdered his brother. By doing so, he committed a sin. God’s punishment for Cain was banishment. Cain was afraid that when he left, people who found him would want to kill him. So, God granted him protection from such vengeance.

There were plenty of Israelites in Egypt. Who were all slaves of the Egyptian king. The king thought there were far too many of them, so he passed on an order to his people saying that all the males that are born have to be thrown into the river. Then Moses was born. When Moses was born, his mother hid him for three months and later put him in a basket and let him float on the river. One day, when the Pharaoh's daughter went down to the river to take a bath, she found him and got someone to raise him for her. When he grew older, he saw an Egyptian being cruel to Hebrews, so he killed him. After that, Moses ran away. While he was living on his own, he meets God. Later on, Moses goes back to save the Hebrews from slavery. He tells everyone about the passover. The passover is when people sacrifice a lamb and paint its blood on the top and sides of their door. Doing so, the plague will pass over the house.
