The Emir Sultan Mosque and Complex was commissioned by Hundi Fatma Sultan, the daughter of Yıldırım Bayezid and the wife of Emir Sultan, at the beginning of the 15th century. The rectangular courtyard has an octagonal fountain in the center. To the south of the courtyard is the mosque, to the north is the Emir Sultan Tomb, and there are also wooden rooms. The mosque has a square plan and is covered by a single dome. Originally, the mosque had multiple domes, but it was destroyed in 1795 and rebuilt between 1804-1805 during the reign of Sultan Selim III in its current form, in Rococo and Empire styles. The structure was repaired between 1861-1876 during the reign of Sultan Abdülaziz.

Bursa Grand Mosque was built by the 4th Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, Yıldırım Beyazıt. Yıldırım Beyazıt promised to build twenty mosques in return for winning the Nicopolis war with the Crusaders. The war was won, but the state did not have the budget to build twenty mosques. Thereupon, Yıldırım Beyazıt's teachers suggested that instead of building twenty mosques, he should build a mosque with twenty domes, and the Bursa Grand Mosque was built. The pulpit of the Grand Mosque also has solar system motifs.

A couple of alleys down the Irgandı Bridge, you come across the "Gurabahane-i Laklakan". Being built in the 19th century it opened its doors to all kinds of birds, especially storks, who got lost or injured whilst their seasonal immigration and caregivers took care of them before setting them free. Today it is renovated and is taking care of the stray animals in the area, most importantly it stands as a beautiful image of Turkish peoples love and care to animals which they still hold on to this day.

Cumalıkızık is a living time capsule—a 700-year-old Ottoman village just outside Bursa where history and charm blend seamlessly. Imagine strolling through narrow cobblestone streets lined with colorful, centuries-old houses, each a storybook of Ottoman architecture. This UNESCO World Heritage Site feels like stepping into a bygone era, untouched by modernity. The village isn’t just a feast for the eyes—it’s a treat for the taste buds too. Start your day with a traditional Turkish breakfast featuring fresh bread, homemade jams, and local cheeses. Don’t miss the village market, brimming with handcrafted souvenirs and delicious homemade products. It’s not just a visit—it’s a journey back in time.

The name "Cumalıkızık" originates from the Turkish word Cuma (Friday). During the early Ottoman period, the village served as a gathering place for the surrounding communities to perform Friday prayers. The suffix -kızık refers to a group of villages established by the Kızık tribe, one of the Oghuz Turk clans. Thus, "Cumalıkızık" can be translated as "the Friday gathering place of the Kızık tribe." This unique name reflects both the village's tribal heritage and its historical religious significance.
