For many Aboriginals, health resources are limited due to location and employment factors; living in a rural area limits access to services such as hospitals and supply stores, when accompanied by poor financial support the health of aboriginal torres strait islanders becomes negatively impacted.

Some ATSI people may have medical services available to them, but instead they prefer using traditional methods that have been used for generations.
ATSI families are reportedly less educated, and have a lower income, which are major factors contributing to the families upbringing. 
ATSI people are more vulnerable to domestic violence. 

These factors including, friends family and culture have a negative impact on the health of ATSI people.

Family and friends of ATSI people can influence them to the right thing but can pressure them to make bad choices. 

Th culture may be against using new medical practices and prefer traditional methods.
