Sal's new home
"Two blocks from Margaret Cadaver’s was the place where my father and I were now going to live. Tiny, squirt trees. Little birdhouses in a row and one of those birdhouses was ours."

This explains how the town of Euclid is small and their house is just 2 blocks away. The text also shows how Salalmanca thinks it's tiny compared to her old home because she uses birdhouses as an example.

Where Ben and Sal kissed
"Behind the hospital was a wide, sloping lawn, bordered by flower gardens. Scattered across the lawn were benches and chairs, most of them occupied with patients and their visitors."

This explains when Sal had her first kiss. I think this is a magical moment because Ben and her have liked each other for a while but haven't really shown it.

Sal's old home
"I wanted to be in Bybanks, Kentucky, in the hills and the trees, near the cows and the chickens and pigs. I wanted to run down the hill from the barn and through the kitchen door that banged behind me and see my mother and father sitting at the table peeling apples."

This explains Sal’s old house and paints a picture for the reader. It talks about her chickens and her barn and how she misses her old home.

The bus where Sal's mother crashed
"The bus lay on its side like an old stick horse, its broken headlights staring mournfully into the surrounding trees. Most of the huge rubber tires were punctured and grotesquely twisted on their axles."
This explains when Sal went to the bus where her mom crashed years earlier. She visits the site and sees the bus thrashed.

Sal's mother's grave hilltop
"The Snake River curved behind the section, and tall, full-leaved trees grew here and there across the lawn. The sheriff parked and led me up a path toward the river, and there, a little hill overlooking the river and the valley, was my mother’s grave."
This gives the reader information to form a picture in their mind of what her mother’s grave stone area looks like. In this scene Sal realizes that her mother isn’t coming back and Sal tries to soak in the beauty of the place.
