Motion is the process of something changing position. Motion has to do with displacement, distance, acceleration, and velocity. For example, a bicycle moving in a straight line at a constant speed has motion.

Balanced forces are forces that do not cause a change in motion, such as the tug-of-war rope below not moving in either direction because there are equal forces on both the left and right (300 N).
Unbalanced forces are when a force is greater in one direction and causes motion. In the rope below, there is a 100 N greater force to the left, which causes motion to the left.

Engage- Engage is an opportunity to see what students may already know about a topic. It is also an opportunity to get students excited about the learning for that day. For example, engage may include a KWL chart or an entertaining video about the content.
Explore- Explore gives students an opportunity to tests the learning. Such as, making a web or conducting an experiment.
Explain- Explain gives students an opportunity to take their findings from explore and create reason. Students might discuss their findings with their peers and draw conclusions or create media to present their explanations.
Elaborate- In Elaborate, students take what they learned and apply it. For example, if students are learning to classify matter, they may elaborate by going home and classifying objects. This way they are taking what they learned and applying it to their lives and communities.
Evaluate- Evaluate provides an opportunity for assessment and/or reflection. Students may demonstrate what they know through an exit ticket or vocabulary or students may explain how well they feel they grasped the content.
