Students could do peer-editing of a paragraph assignment, in order to ensure that the students are learning the concepts themselves (instead of the teacher).

Whoever does the editing does the learning. I need to be more mindful to allow students to edit their own work instead of me correcting it for them. When a student comes to me to write an essay, the student needs to correct grammar especially basic concepts.

This is a lot like baseball. Recovering from a bad game or a bad grade to bounce back and succeed the next time teaches much more than being labeled a failure. I believe that students should be treated like players in our classrooms in the sense they get more than one opportunity to succeed and grow.

Grades given to students at the beginning of a lesson should be viewed as where they started. We should not punish them for the 59 they made, while later in the unit they are grasping the concept making 90’s. We should give them an opportunity to redo and re-evaluate.

Student should be allowed to learn from their failures. Many times failures are the greatest teachers. So students should be rewarded from taking a failure as a chance to learn rather than being labeled as a failure.

In the case of a final project you can give students an open ended option for how they turn in the assignment. Meaning if they want they can write an essay, make a video, give a presentation, or create something artistically. Whatever they feel they want to do.

Students need to be assessed in more ways than just testing, etc. This way allows them to show if they have mastered a subject rather than only memorized the information.
