She is sitting on the newspapers of a kiosk with her eyes closed, under the sun. What does she think of? How does she feel? A photograph is a captured moment in time and space and it seems to me that although our cat is aware of the fact that our society is nothing but peaceful, she finds the time and space to communicate with the core of herself – the centre of her inner being – in order to find peace and serenity. I can listen to her thinking: ‘Enough is enough. Your humanity has been and is bombarded by speed, anxiety, noise, pollution, conflicts, wars, injustice, divisions, prejudice and stereotypes, gender inequality, suppression of minorities and refugees, murder of animals, physical and mental abuse. I know all these and I feel for you. Yet, I find the time and space to relax under the sun and to close my eyes for a while, breathe and just let myself be on this summer day. Why don’t you try to do the same? Humans, compassion and realization of an unjust world do not mean surrender without a fight to the darkest feelings and phobias. We all are able, even during the harshest times, to find our space and time within us and thus, the strength to be the change that we want to experience in the world. And this may lead us to peace’.
