For semester one and two the classroom will be more discussion based. Student desks will be set up in a U shape and instruction will be talored to encourage classroom discussion on subjects that pertain to US history. 

 This is the closest picture I can find that fits my semester 1 and 2 discussion-based classroom. TV would be centered on the wall and projector would be in the middle of the U shape.

I would have a plush rug in the sitting area for free time. I would have a portion of the shelf next to the sitting area with books that collolate to US history and US history magazines for research purposes. 

Posters would be on the wall located either when students walk in or next to the student seating area. I would have the two oil diffusers (aroma thearpy). One would be located at my dest and the other on top of the shelf next to the student sitting area. Walls would be painted a light mint green to set a relaxing feel for the class. The first layout is meant to build the foundations for relationships. Students would learn about each others perspectives and their views on different subjects. The second is for the students getting to work together to solve different issues since the foundation of relationships has been built. The second layout would be geared toward collaborative work. I would (idealy) take the first part of the year to teach students how to discuss and debate the different topics related to my content area (social sciences) all while building the foundations of relationships. 4.      We will discuss A LOT in this class. Raise you hand to be called upon. Do not just yell out because you are dying to say something. You will all have an opportunity to speak!
5.     One person at a time may use the bathroom. 
6.     Follow directions, and with a purpose (quickly).
7.     Cooperate with your group. Don’t be a slug!
8.     Pick up after yourself. 
9.     Try you best! I do not expect you to all be Einstein’s. But I can tell when you put forth effort and are trying your best! 
10.  Have an open mind and big ears!

Empower the student : Let student THINK they are in charge. Give them choices!
Develop a code of conduct, predetermined consequences: Set the expectations up front, leave no guesing room.
Body Language: Students will pick up on your energy, walk with a purpose and not in a rush, control your emotions as a teacher and the level of your voice. The teacher sets the tone on how students will react.
Full Bellies: We have all been hangary! Sometimes unproductive behavior is because students are just hungry. Having snacks available can help solve behavior issues.
Set Positive curriculum : Have students take responsibility for their actions, and set goals. As a teacher don't shy away from taking responsibility. WHen your wrong, admit it, set the example.
