         <description><![CDATA[<p>Invented in 1938, the ballpoint pen only began to gain popularity rapidly during the 1950s. Before the ballpoint pen, students who didn't use pencils to write had to use pens that needed to be filled or dipped with ink. With this new pen, students could write swiftly without worrying about ink smudging.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>While the introduction of handheld calculators to classrooms was widely debated at the time, the calculator slowly began to enter classrooms during the 1970s. Even if schools prohibited them it would stop them from being used for homework. While many fear that students will be over reliant on machines, studies show that students that used calculators have better scores on the SAT than those who don't.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>High schools in the 80's begun to have computers for students to use. Teachers would begin to routinely assign students to computer tasks. A decade later the internet would be invented and connected to computers world wide.  The computer would seem like magic for those watching its rise.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Whether teachers love them or hate them phones will be a part of the classroom. Its hard to imagine a kid without a smartphone in their hands. While most kids will try and pay attention to class it does offer a new distraction for kids to play with.</p>]]></description>
