In 2008, I got my first smartphone: the iPhone 3G. It was so sleek. It had a touchscreen, and could even connect to Wi-Fi — a huge step up from my previous flip phone. I remember downloading apps for the first time and taking photos with that 2MP camera. It didn’t have many features by today’s standards, but it introduced me to mobile internet and email. It was slower than modern phones, but it completely changed how I used a phone.

Back in the late ‘80s, my very first phone was the Motorola DynaTAC. It was so enormous and heavy. It was bigger than a large coffee! It took hours to charge too. The battery was so unreliable, I always carried a spare. It could only make calls. No camera, no messaging, and no chance of fitting it in a pocket. Still, it was portable and that was amazing! Compared to today’s devices, it was heavier. No wonder they called it the brick.

My first proper phone was the Sony Ericsson W200i way back in 2006. It was so small and portable. You could even play music on it. It was built for music lovers like me. I could load up my favorite songs and plug in those iconic earbuds. The battery life was impressive, lasting days, even with constant playback. It didn’t have a touch screen, but the joystick made navigation so easy. You couldn’t scroll like on today’s smartphones, but it was perfect for what I needed: texting and tunes.

I got my first mobile in 2005 — the ultra-thin and stylish Motorola Razor. It was a flip phone with a sharp silver design that felt so futuristic at the time. I loved how it snapped shut with a satisfying click. The camera wasn't amazing, but for its time, it felt like magic having one in my pocket. It was thinner than today's smart phones! I’d still call it the coolest-looking phone I’ve ever owned.
