It is a very lightweight device which makes it very practical for the situation as it can be easily be carried in a pocket and taken out when needed. It also has the ability to flash and apply different settings to the photograph. We did not however use the flash function in our investigation due the weather conditions being foggy.

The tape measure was used to record the distance between the car and the skid marks. It was also used to aid the calculations in working out pedestrian throw distance. 

Full hazmat suits and gloves were used so that none of the evidence is compromised by cross-contamination. 

Number markers are used to mark pieces of evidence before they are collected or photographed.

Evidence bags were used to store different types of evidence. It was reported that the criminal broke into the household of the owners using common tools and retrieved the keys from the kitchen counter before making off with the vehicle.

The vehicle was driven near too to Tresham college Kettering, only a few miles from the owners home, where it had struck a pedestrian and crashed. The suspect managed to ditch the vehicle and get away. The pedestrian was taken to Kettering General Hospital to be treated for severe injuries before the SOCO and investigation team arrived on scene.

However, some images can be modified slightly in ways that do not affect their integrity. For example, in this one-to-one image of a lifted footprint, it has been zoomed in too better see the scale next to the evidence. This is used to aid find the size of the criminals shoes and can be compared to that of a suspect to confirm or rule out suspicions.  

This photo has been slightly manipulated to expand its forensic value in an investigation with zoom and orientation change. This is done to get a better view of the scale and work out the size of the shoe. Using the scale it can be seen that the print is 305mm in length which converts to around a size 11.5/12 in UK sizes. Zooming into a photo can be extremely supportive to a case as it can help identify something that is hard too see from far away such as text or a small detail that is hard to make out. It can also aid in focusing in one area of a photograph, in this case, the skid marks behind a vehicle are the main focus in the manipulated image. This helps see the extent of the tire marks and also an insight on tire condition.

An image could also be altered to make an injury not look as bad as it is which could lead to a prosecution that is too low.

For example, this is an image (32) of an injury sustained to the victim during the incident however it has been manipulated to tool like this. The exposure settings were decreased to make the bruised area look worse and make the wound look deeper. This could alter with the outcome of a case.
