I do think that she did not respect her mothers beliefs but her mother did not respect hers. I do think respect both ways is important, you can also tell from the story that Beneatha is struggling with self imagine. She has this goal to express who she is but she has ran through so many hobbies which can make the reader question whether she knows exactly what she's expressing.
