I learned that the first airplane was made in 1903. The first few missions on a military airplane were to photograph enemy bases from above. Dutchman Anthony Forkerr was able to make an airplane with a machine gun on it work perfectly. This idea of the machine gun on the plane originally came from a man named Roland Garros. The reason the germans got a hold of Roland's plane was that he crashed and the germans decided to study the plane. The first air formation was formed in the year 1918. There were thousands of planes produced in 1918 because they were very important for combat.

The first major gas attack was in what is now Poland, and poison gas became something very important during ww1. On January 31 1915 more than 18,000 gas shells were dropped on Russian lines. Each shell was filled with the chemical known as bromide, basically an early, but not perfect form of tear gas. In April, German scientists experimented and found out that by using chlorine gas in pressured capsules, soldiers would be trapped by the gas, and die from suffocation. Within just a few days, The Daily Mail posted about the chlorine gas by the Germans. Sir John France, The leader of the British expediential force said it was extremely barbarous. But a couple of months later, the British used the gas against the germans in the battle of Loos.

The gas bombings were terrifying for soldiers. To the point where many men had even thought they'd been gassed but weren't. There were multiple gases like chlorine, phosgene, mustard gas, and more.

Many died due to the suffocation of Chlorine Gas. Many thought the gas was uncivilized but would be later used by the same countries. Many soldiers were terrified of the gas. There were alarms to warn soldiers of gas. Chlorine gas reacts quickly with water and it causes swelling, blocks lung tissue, as well as suffocation. Mustard gas causes blisters to form. The blisters could form on skin, lungs, and throat. Almost 90,000 soldiers died by gas on all sides.

The gas attack was supposed to be big and very dangerous but it was not. The chemist then tested other gases and found chlorine gas which suffocated the people and they died. The gas reacts very quickly it swells and blocks lung tissue and causes suffocation. The soldiers were terrified about these new weapons and found it cowardly but it did have a big psychological impact on them. The gas mask provided good protection against chlorine and phosgene but it did not protect them from mustard gas. Mustard gas caused terrible blisters all over the body. It was so dangerous and it killed by blistering the lungs and throat of people. There was a treaty that banned the use of chemical weapons.

-Nataly Sanchez

In 1903 the first airplane was flown in the United States. In the years leading up to world war I, military air travel was sponsored by powerful people in government and business, and by 1909 both France and Germany had military air branches with a focus on investigating and bombing. During the first world war, the industrialization of the aircraft industry became entrenched as an essential piece of the modern war machine. The belligerents quickly took to the air to gain an advantage. As pilots began shooting at one another, the idea of in-fight combat appeared. Warfare would someday evolve into the drone strike technology that we have today. The first fact I learned was the biggest leap forward in early aerial combat came when Frenchman Roland Garros attached a machine gun to his plane. The second fact was, After a short period of aerial dominance, Garros crashed and the Germans were able to study his craft.

Propaganda was used to enforce an ideal or opinion on the people of that country. Most propaganda shows a military officer pointing at you telling you that your country needs you! To join the country military as a soldier. Some propaganda was used to grow hatred towards a certain race or certain people of a country. In the article i read this propaganda poster by Savile Lumley showing two young children and they asked their father about his military prowess. Asking "Daddy, what did YOU do in the great war". It was kind of an emotional blackmail to boost the morale of soldiers to get them to fight better. Women On propaganda were often depicted as guardians of their home and in gentle nature and vulnerability. Women served as reminders for the need to fight to come back to the companionship they have at home that awaited the soldiers upon return home.

Another thing I learned from the article is that john french called the use of gas a cynical and barbarous disregard of the well-known usages of civilized war. but then for months later Britain attacked the german trenches with gas. they say it will produce a tremendous scandal in the world. but Britain and France strove to develop new and more effective gases to help in the war.

Anna Coleman Land, a sculptor, decided to use her art skills to make masks for the aftermath faces of soldiers in WW1. Her art was inspired by the "Tin Noses Shop" sculptors of disfigured British soldiers. It would take many weeks for a mask to finish, but Ladd made a point to learn the soldiers and their expressions, so it turned out great. These sculptors that Ladd made during the war hold a big importance. They changed the perspective of how people view soldiers with disfigured faces. Ladd made the soldiers feel comfortable and happy in a society where they were viewed as hideous because of the traces of their presence in the war. 2 things I found fascinating is that the studio where Ladd worked made every soldier feel heaven on earth. Also that she made hundreds of masks by hand.

Its a green colored gas that would cause enemies to choke causing them to suffocate on the spot. Another gas is called phosgene that took longer to kill enemies but was known to be more "dangerous." The solution being used against these weapons were masks. The masks provided good protection between these gases. Mustard gas was another gas used a lot. It killed soldiers by blistering their lungs, throat, to even physically blistering their body. The first major gas attack was more than 100 years ago. Soldiers gained a fear of gas.

If if they trow the gas the wind could have came back and blown the gas trowds where it was being thrown so because of this a special type of gas was made to protect the soldiers, this gas could have killed you in seconds.even this gas getting in your eyes would be blind in seconds

Mustard Gas killed by blistering the lungs and your throat when inhaled, which suffocated you to death. Gas was considered to be a "dumb" form of battle as people saw a gun or a sword as something more capable of a brave soldier. Wilfred Owen was a Lieutenant with the Second Batallion who was knocked by an explosive, he never wrote about the attack on Dulce which was off. They used it to persuade people that what they are doing is just for the people reading it to persuade them to join the military. a fact I learned was that the way they used to depict enemies was weird. they would depict their enemies as not even looking human as depicted in the Russian poster: they depicted Kaiser Wilhelm ll to be a devil-looking thing stating that it is the end of the world. another fact I learned is that the propaganda even influenced children to do things. in Europe, schools taught things other than the typical reading and writing they would teach patriotic values showing that their county is better than another.

On January 31, 1915, the first major gas attack in history occurred. 18,000 shells of the earliest form of tear gas were thrown on Russian lines but weren't as good as they were meant to be. After chlorine gas was created to make a bigger impact during the battle of Ypres, Britain used it on German trenches in the battle of Loos. Gasses eventually became seen as "cowardly" or a "dirty weapon" by the commander of the German Third Army in France. The victims of a gas attack would choke, it forms hydrochloric acid by reacting to water in the airways, then swelling and blocking lung tissue, causing the victim to suffocate. Then a counter to these gases came about leaving the gas users no choice but to make another gas. Mustard gas was then created and it affected soldiers with masks on too, contaminating their clothes. They had to take their clothes off and wash them as fast as possible if they wanted to survive the gas. Leaving 185,000 gas casualties in the second half of the war on both sides, the British and Empire Service Personnel.

During World War I, the aircraft industry played a big part in the war. Military aviation had new plans for the warfare and was sponsored by powerful people. Around in 1909, Germany's and France's air branches had their focus on exploration and bombing. The first couple missions, the hostile would go over other military troops and bases to take photographs, and retrieve them back to their base; they use those photos to plane their next move. The next big step into combat was when Frenchman Roland Garros equipped a machine gun into his plane. After his dominance was seen and his aircraft had crashed, the Germans had studied his plane and improved theirs. This idea led the British, France, and the Germans to have the upper hand in the war. The plane technology and the pilot training had left big impacts on the war and led to great development.

Propaganda in WWI

Propaganda was used extensively in WWI. Its main use in the war was to dehumanize the enemy, gain more support, and enlist more soldiers. Three main types of propaganda were used, patriotism, atrocity, and depiction propaganda. Patriotism would be used to make people enlist in the war for the sake of their country. Atrocity propaganda used fallacies and exaggerations to dehumanize the enemy. Depiction propaganda was used to portray the enemy as a great evil. These types of propaganda are still heavily used to this day.

How deadly was the poison gas of WW1?

There are a lot of things I learned from this passage. One fact is The date was 31 January 1915, when the first major gas attack in history happened. Another fact is that one of the first people to witness the first major gas attack was Gen Hoffman. He watched as 18,000 shells rained below the Russian lines, each one containing xylyl bromide it is a chemical and it was an early form of tear gas. He was disappointed by the results he expected much greater. But That failure was just a minor setback. Later German chemists tested a different way of releasing chlorine gas from pressurized cylinders and thousands of French Algerian soldiers were smothered in a green cloud of chlorine.

i learn that the first plane was made in 1903. and military aviation was patronized by powerful people in government and business, and by 1909 both France and Germany had military air branches focused on reconnaissance and bombing.
the biggest leap forward in early combat came when a french man Roland Garros attached a machine to his plane. Germans briefly managed to cover their small base at Verdun in 1916 with a dominant air cover.and in 1918 aerial warfare had become so important that they were thousands of planes ready to fight.people left the war assuming that the aerial bombardment of civilization could destroy morale and end the war soon. the Germany bomb the Britain and they faild to have any effect and the war continue.

Gas attacks are major cause of most of the deaths like on Jan 31 1915 a bunch of chemicals were dropped like 18,000 gas shells, it was the first biggest gas attack ever. The gas contained xylyl Bromide was the gas that caused most of the people to die, but also during the war people used tear gas, chlorine gas, Mustard gas. The gases would cause horrible pain like mustard gas and chlorine gas would blur your vision and leave blisters on skin. Mustard gas is worse though like it would cause severe damage to your eyes and cause shortness of breath by damaging your lungs. British and German soldiers used gas masks to stay alive but they were scared by the gases. Most of the gases you tell by smell and some of them by color as well. Germans were the ones that used chlorine gas and killed French soldiers with it.

The first big gas attack was in what is now Poland, and poison gas became something very important during ww1. On January 31 1915 more thn 18,000 gas shells were dropped on russian lines. each shell was filled with the chemical known as bromide, basically an early but not perfect , the soliderss were terrified about these new weapons and found it cowardly but it did have a big physocigical impact on them. the gas mask provided good protection against chlorine and phosgene but it did not protect them from mustard gas caused terrible blisters all over the body. it was so dangerous and it killed by blistering the lungs and throat of people. There was a treaty that banned the use of chemical weapons and it was alot done

-E'moni Jones

The first ever time hear of gas attack was in the 31 january 1915 by the Russian. Some they had to make a standard issue gas mask in 1917 the small box respirator provided good protection against chlorine and phosgene. most cannot see the difference between killing a man with a chemical substance and rending him to pieces with high explosives. Other terrible weapons were developed at the same time were flamethrower that appear on the Western Front in 1915. On February 1918 one soldier of the 1/22nd London Regiment developed a sore throat and reported that he had been gassed. I think its scary science, the thought that it gets into your system and you can't really see it, unlike a piece of shrapnel. Soldiers were injured Some 185,000 British and Empire service personnel were classed as gas casualties 175,000 of those in the last two years of the war as mustard gas came into use.
