Through reading part one I was able to learn about the ancient world, and the ancient gods of humans at the time. I learned about how gender roles were at the time, and what they considered civilization. But they made a mistake in Gilgamesh's arrogance, so in response to the people's cries they made Gilgamesh an equal who would sooth him and that equal was Enkidu. After Enkidu is tamed in the ways of man he goes to Gilgamesh to confront him about his arrogance and fights him. I felt that the epic so far draws me in with it's story. I also have learned that the writer of the Epic knew many gods, similar to the Greek or Norse gods in how there is a god for almost anything. That was kinda weird. Gilgamesh is a really bad person right now. At the end of the chapter, he still had not shown any remorse for his actions. In my opinion, if it truly was a relationship with no romance, is that the closest relationship that Gilgamesh could relate to was the of being in love with a woman. Since Enkidu would be his first true comrade it would be reasonable to assume this. Also that whole fighting and then becoming friends I kind of get it now. It's kind of like they both saw that they were both strong and they liked that. There are obviously different gender roles in the setting of this story than we have now, as the harlot was to use herself to overcome the wildness of Enkidu. Besides the difference in culture though, I like the story. I learned how much the citizens of Uruk revered Gilgamesh but also feared him, as they would not cast their complaints onto him. I also learned Enkidu was made to his equal. In the story Endkidu was tamed by a harlot from the wild. She guided him to Gilgamesh. The religion in ancient Mesopotamia appears to be similar to Greek mythology, worshiping many different gods and entities. From the way they are told to the way they are written really shows how the two are not alike. In todays stories the telling uses a lot of imagery, with things like similes and metaphors. In action story tellings everything from the accent to what the story is told about is diffrent. Gender roles definitely affects his reasoning in how he treats his community and how he had little kids in his army and would have to sleep with the bride before the groom did. With Enkidu he was pure but without knowledge until he met the harlot. He heard the harlot and followed her to Uruk to meet Gilgamesh and defeat him. They ended up fighting but at the very end they became friends and hugged. I can tell they both realized their destiny is to have a sidekick and be friends with each other. Gilgamesh reigned over Uruk with some questionable methods that the people were not a fan of. Enkidu lived in the wild with the animals and a child saw him and was scared. He told his parent and they sent for Gilgamesh to overcome him. Instead he sent a woman to kill his relationship with the beasts. There he found out about Gilgamesh and wanted to fight him so he could rule. They fought in Uruk, but immediately stopped and admired each other.
