Journal Entry 1: Music
Music can be created using various sounds and voices. For some, music makes it easy for people to communicate or express their emotions. Personally, I feel as though the World would be so much different without music. I will say that music has helped me plow through certain situations in life. I either use music for uplifting me when I am down, helping me stay motivated through a workout, or for inspiration. My favorite artist is Xxxtentacion. Xxxtentacion is the most controversial artist I have ever witnessed. He creates musical pieces from grunge rock to rap. One of my favorite songs by Xxxtentacion is Jocelyn Flores. With the combination of the of the emotion in X's voice, meaningful lyrics, and amazing instrumental, he communicates a story, through his lyrics, with the audience. All of this tied into one song makes me appreciate music even more. Music is beyond valuable and I really do not know where I would be without it.

Journal Entry 2: Week 2 Prompt
English 101 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania is the typical English course freshmen tend to take. Mr. B stated that our course is a writing course, so that means I will be creating different pieces of writing. I love writing, because sometimes I find it hard for me to put my thoughts into words, verbally, and writing makes that easier for me. Honestly, I am so excited to be in English 101 with Mr. B. It is only week 2 and I already love it. I like the fact that our class is laid back. The assignments we have done so far have kind of been like a destresser for me. English 101 will definitely be helpful to me in my major of Biochemistry. In my science courses, every time we have a lab we are required to complete a lab report. English 101 will help me become a better writer and the skills I learn will make doing the lab reports a piece of cake. Also, my whole purpose in getting a degree in biochemistry is to properly prepare me for doing well on the MCAT. That being said, I feel as though writing will allow me to become a stronger analyzer of text. Analyzing text is crucial on the MCAT, so ultimately English 101 will help me get the highest score possible on the MCAT. All in all, I enjoy and will benefit from English 101.

Journal Entry 4: Reflection on Essay
The first essay did not go as well as I thought it would go. Honestly, before I turned the assignment in I thought I was going to better than what I received for a grade. I went to the writing center and they told me to fix a few things and I did. They read it after I fixed the errors and they said my essay was great. I turned my essay in, confidently, and received a C+. I was so disappointed, because I spent my time writing and editing an essay, in which I thought I did to the best of my ability. When I received my graded essay, my teacher pointed out that I missed a key part of the assignment. I then completed the missing section for my assignment, so hopefully my grade on the assignment is boosted to at least a B. I did not think the assignment was hard; however, I did learned something that was very important. I learned that it is important to pay attention, and make sure I have met all of the requirements of an assignment before turning it in.

Journal Entry 5: Argue Against Persuasive
Why would one ditch using the everyday convenient water bottle for a filter water pitcher? I personally would not stop using water bottles, because they are far too convenient. When you’re in a rush, you can just grab your water bottle and go. You do not have to wait for the long process of obtaining water by using a filter water pitcher. Filter water pitchers are expensive. As a college student, I can not afford to go out and buy a fancy water pitcher. I may also run a chance with getting sick by drinking from a filter water pitcher. There is no say on how long filter water pitchers last, and the constant use of it may cause mold to develop in the filter. If mold develops in the filter I run a chance with drinking contaminated water from the filter water pitcher. I would rather not risk my life a drink purified water from water bottles. All in all, I believe that water bottles are better than filter water pitchers.

Journal Entry 6: Racial Discrimination
Racial discrimination is acting upon one's prejudgment of of one's race. This past homecoming I was the victim of racial discrimination. I am not going to get into all of the details, but I went through something my mom has always warned me about since I was a little girl. My mom informed that because of the color of my skin I will always be treated differently, so it is important to watch the kinds of situations I get myself into. She always warned me about cops in particular. The situation that I witnessed during homecoming weekend involved police. The police that handled the incident were all white. There were eight well-trained white cops against six minority students who were under the age of nineteen. The cops were disrespectful and rude to us. I have never been a victim of mistreat by police until this day. I was shocked, because I remember seeing two cops bust four white students for smoking in their dorm. I noticed that the cops were talking to them respectfully. The cops were talking to the boys almost as if they did nothing wrong. I compared both situations and realized I was a victim of racial discrimination. The cops treated us the minority students differently because of their prejudgment.

Journal Entry 7: Evaluative Essay Reflection
I enjoyed constructing the evaluative essay. It allowed me to express my creativity in a way I have never done before. This was my first time creating a brochure for a class. This assignment was similar to the persuasive essay, because I used pictures in both assignments to get my point across. It is also similar to the persuasive essay, because both assignments contained small amounts of texts. It is different because in the brochure I listed pros and cons. In the persuasive essay I only listed the benefits. My audience are people who are interested in astral projection. I feel comfortable about the difference between objective and subjective language. Objective language is fact based language. Subjective language is language based entirely off of opinion.

Journal Entry 8: Transferring
This week I decided that I would like to transfer. Coming to IUP has been an interesting experience. On the bright side, I met my best friends. My best friends and I have had many opportunities to create a bond that will never be broken. I joined three organizations. I enjoyed two out of the three organizations that I joined. American Chemical Society and American Medical Student Association are the organizations I enjoyed the most. By the end of the semester I gained a spot on the board of the American Chemical Society. I also joined the Militia Dance Team. The Militia Dance Team was fun at first but as the semester went on I lost interest. I have experienced negative and positive things, but ultimately I know that I will be better off at a different institution. I am planning to transfer to Temple University next semester. Temple University has been my dream school since I was a Junior in high school. Unfortunately, the first time I applied, I did not get accepted because I applied too late. I am happy that I have another opportunity to apply again and hopefully I get the acceptance letter this time. If I do get accepted, I will not be continuing my education at IUP next semester.

Journal Entry 9: Informative Essay Reflection
I enjoyed writing the informative essay; however, it was the most time consuming writing piece I have ever done. I loved the fact that we were able to research a topic of our choice. Researching a topic of my choice allowed me to be interested in constructing the assignment. It was similar to the persuasive essay in many ways. Both the informative and persuasive essays were met to inform. So both essays presented information about a specific topic. They also both contained some kind of bias. The persuasive and informative essay also included subjective language. The informative essay was also different in many aspects. The informative essay required much more research. The whole informative essay was built around research. As opposed to the persuasive essay, the persuasive essay was constructed off of an opinion, and then it used facts to persuade the audience. My audience for the informative essay are people who are interested in societal expectations, bullying, and mental illnesses. I also feel comfortable with the difference between objective and subjective language.

Journal Entry 10: Re-Imaging Informative Essay
Personally, I feel as though the re-imaging will be quite easy. Poetry has always been my strong suit. I write poetry for fun, so I thought reconstructing my essay into a poem would be easy. My research paper contained a lot of factual information, so condensing a six page paper into a single poem was a challenge. When constructing my poem I lost a lot of the factual information that was in my research paper. My poem ended up having more emotion than facts. I enjoyed writing the poem, because I felt as though it was an out of the box idea. I was able to display more emotion when constructing my poem. So with the research paper it was more factual, and the poem was more emotional. All in all, by using the poem format, I gained a different perspective of my paper, in which was more emotional. Unfortunately, I lost a lot of factual information that was in my research paper.

Journal Entry: What Have I Actually Gained From The Course?
I gained a lot from taking the English 101 course. I feel as though English 101 has opened my mind up to different styles of writing. In high school, English was so strictly structured, and teachers were not open to new styles of writing. I never thought that I would be able to do a brochure, take a picture, or make a poem instead of in essay to take the place of traditional writing. I feel as though English 101 has allowed my writing to strengthen as well. The fact that we would have to do writings in a short amount of time challenged me. Doing writings under a time constraint forced me to become creative and dedicated to my writing. I felt like I mastered writing a little but saying a lot as well. My teacher also gave great feedback for all of writings. I used the feedback Professor Markle gave me in order to improve my writing. English 101 also helped me with Chem 113. In Chem 113 we are required to do lab reports after each lab. I used to the criticism that I received on my English writings to improve my Chemistry lab reports.
