I'm just one from the general public as a Hungarian migrant in the UK from 2008. 
I started my new life in the UK as a Class 1 lorry driver.
But next to my daily job I tried to find out how and what kind of business I can start. Where is the empty market and what kind of problem I will solve?
I didn't know what I was looking for. I just started discovering and learning about everything marketing, sociology SDI, System Design Thinking, technology trend, economy trend and alternative business models, cloud hosting infrastructure. I had always felt there is something that I can't see and do not find yet. 
Finally in 2019 I felt the skeleton of my idea is complete and ready for feedback.

It means breaking down - often externally irrelevant disciplinary boundaries - to show the relevance of our research to everyone's everyday.  Interdisciplinary Engagement therefore creates more accessible spaces which allow publics to feedback and/or collaborate in the research process. 
This is something we are "learning through doing" in quite an instinctive way through the  trial and error of various event formats. Most of our engagement work takes place in SE Asia. While conducting my PhD I also worked as an Education Outreach Fellow to engage school kids with activities being conducted within the Faculty of Biological Science. 

Having finished my PhD I am now working with the University of Leeds to establish a public engagement training programme specifically designed to support PhD students. The hope is to then offer this training to other universities, as part of my business, Let's Chat Science. 

Interdisciplinary public engagement to me is creating activities and events focussed around research and scientific problems that bridge multiple disciplines. Having spent my research career in this gap it is a unique opportunity and problem, as funding is often difficult to get as the projects could be funded by multiple different bodies. So an activity based around joint replacements involved research funded by both the BBSRC and the EPSRC. So who funds it? The Warwick Institute of Engagement has been created to bring academics from across the different disciplines together, along with professional services staff and our students, to enable a more joined-up and strategic set of discussions about how to do, train for, and teach engagement, which can then inform wider University practice.
