         <title>Mentoring Matters </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Strategy List<br><br><strong>1.&nbsp; Stem Completion-</strong> The presenter introduces ideas and creates a sentence stem that is to be completed by participants. <br><strong>Example:</strong> I am most curious about...<br><br><strong>2.&nbsp; Visual Synectics: </strong>This is a way to get the group to stretch their thinking in a unique manner by relating their thinking to a symbol or object. <br><strong>Example:</strong> A teacher is like a salad because.... A coach is like a city with a bridge because...<br><br><strong>3. Learning Partners:</strong><br>Symbols are depicted on paper, each with one line under the image. Participants mingle with others to identify and record the name of one person under each image. These "learning partners" will share ideas at different points of the training session. (h/o p.25)<br><strong><br>4. Think, Write/ Pair Share</strong><br>Participants think and write about a topic. This allows for individual and personal idea formation. (Introverts especially need this.)&nbsp; After thinking and writing, they then share with ONE partner. (Using the Learning Partners strategy is an option.)&nbsp; NOTE: Language is important- A focus on "the data,&nbsp; the lesson," etc. makes it neutral. This is less threatening, learning-focused, and safe.<br><br><strong>5. Read and Example </strong><br>All participants read assigned passage (We used Book, p. 2-4). Assign "A" and "B" partners and tasks:<br><strong>Example:&nbsp;</strong></div><ul><li>Everyone reads p. 2.</li></ul><div>"A" partners summarizes, both partners craft examples.</div><ul><li>Everyone reads p.3</li></ul><div>"B" partners summarize, both partners craft examples.</div><ul><li>Everyone reads p. 4</li></ul><div>"A" partners summarize, both partners craft examples.<br><br><strong>6. Say Something- Reading </strong>focus strategy. Read a short chunk and "say something" about.&nbsp; Read another chunk, and then say something, etc.&nbsp; This is done with partners.<br><br><strong>7. One Word Summary<br></strong>Synthesis strategy- Choose one word that represents the day. Explain why? Choose a speaker to share out. Generally done with table groups at the end of a shared learning session.<br><br>DAY 2<br><br>8. <strong>3-2-1&nbsp; +1</strong><br>This is used to recapture ideas from previous learning/activities. (Handout, p. 19)<br>First step: Individuals record:<br>3- key ideas from Day 1<br>2- strength/stretch (regarding previous learning/activity)<br>1- point to ponder<br>Step 2:<br>Partners discuss these ideas. As the do, they will record new ideas in a +1 column.<br>Step 3:<br>After discussion, generate questions and discuss.<br><br>Day 3<br><br><strong>Paraphrase Workout</strong><br>The group was asked, "Given what you know about, what can you tell me about... " After this initial conversation, the group engaged in an activity that allowed individuals to practice the skill of paraphrasing.<br><br><strong>Line-up Beverage</strong><br>This is used to organize the group into a line that will later be reorganized into pairs or small groups. Participants line up in alphabetical order according to their favorite beverage. Lisa later had group create A and B partners to engage in a Paired conversation.<br><br><strong>Paired- (Verbal fluency was topic.)<br></strong>Give content with which participants are familiar. Partner A shares, Partner B shares. This continues with each partner being sure not to repeat an idea shared by the other. NOTE: Lisa made clear that it should be a large concept that lends itself to a wide opportunity for dialogue.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

They are more than happy to share their knowledge and would like to provide a professional learning opportunity. I will schedule it in October. In the meantime, we will share materials and knowledge. <br><br><strong>Problems of Practice-</strong> I have the feedback from previouse logs. We will revisit those, as needed. So much happens in between our meeting! Sometimes our priorities shift, but I strive to address the needs we have. <br><br><strong>Changes in schedule-</strong> Please share any changes in your schedule rotation with me. <br><br><strong>Logo-</strong> I'd like to strengthen our Social Media presence. For this purpose, I think a logo will help with branding. Let's work on this to ensure we are recognized as a group of dedicated educators who are motivated by learning with our peers.          <description><![CDATA[<div><strong><em>Hello there! Another Friday is upon us. I'd like to give you a preview of upcoming events:</em></strong><br><br><strong>10/14-</strong> ELD Module, part II with Linda &amp; Robin. This will take place in the "CLAS" Office, upstairs. We met there before and that is where we had the Curriculum Specialist Meet &amp; Greet. Secondary folks will meet here but go to another room for secondary-specific work related to the ELD framework. <br><strong>10/21</strong>- Engage 360 has asked for our help, but I need to gain clarification. A small group has signed up on the <a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZvJIpbm3G0YyY68Yo3q4UPjXfhc71i0uWnHpN-Xo5DY/edit?usp=sharing">Google form</a>. I will seek more information and details to share on Friday.<br><strong>10/28</strong>- In response to a worthy request, Curriculum Specialist Jen Wood will present on academic conversations via the skills of deconstructing text, anchor standards, and questioning.<br><strong>10/31- </strong>Conference week will mean a different schedule. We will engage in a variety of professional learning, including a follow-up visit by our Cognitive Coaching consultant, Lisa Danielson. We hope to arrange some group observations that allow us to practice our skills with her support. Other events will be planned, and I hope to build this together. A great idea was shared by Jennifer, so I think it would be wonderful to have one or two days set aside for peer-driven learning stations. Jenn Wood will be providing a professional learning opportunity. We will be in room 106. That is a technology training room.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Another Great Week of Learning!<br><br>We will be meeting at the district office, small room 105. <br><br><strong>Personalized learnng through technology-</strong> Please find 3 resources (short video, brief article) related to this topic. Create a QR code and print it. Please include the title of the video or article.<br><br><strong>Vision Boards</strong>- Please bring your vision boards and be prepared to film the presentation/explanation of the board. The goal is to create a QR code that will be displayed alongside the project so others can access it. A brief explanation of our project will be posted next to our Vision project. <br><br><strong>Pioneer Project-</strong> Out of a conversation during a site visit, an idea is under development. The thought is that TEC groups can be formed to collaborate on an innovative project. We will discuss this at our meeting.<br><br><strong>Mexican Consulate</strong>- Be prepared to take a short fieldtrip.  <br><br><strong>Log</strong>- Please complete the weekly log. <br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><em>Hope you had an awesome Thanksgiving break!<br><br>We will be meeting in room 106 at 3:00 PM. </em><br><br><strong>Weekly TEC Log</strong>- While there may be time to complete the weekly log on Friday, you may want to complete it prior to our meeting. It can be accessed via our&nbsp; <a href="https://sites.google.com/a/sausdlearns.net/teacher2teacher/home">SASUD Teacher 2 Teacher Website</a>.<br><br><strong>Vision Boards</strong>- Please bring a print out of the QR code for the Vision Board Video you created. Some time will be spent creating a bulletin board. If you have supplies for this, feel free to bring them. <br><br><strong>Pioneer Project</strong>- Some time will be dedicated to form groups and brainstorm a collaborative educational project. Identify a need we have in the district and be prepared to address it with a small group of dedicated professionals. Be ready to share your ideas. <br><br><strong>Schedule-</strong> I have been asked to share a calendar with the times of our Friday meetings. Just prior to our break, I updated my calendar to include the times because, like you, I found it challenging to keep up with the start times. Be looking for an Outlook calendar invitation. I hope that will be helpful. I have also put our meetings on the calendar found on our <em>Teacher2Teacher</em> webpage!<br><br></div><div>&nbsp;<strong>New TEC friends</strong>- Martin Perez, currently a teacher at Kennedy, will be joining us very soon. I believe he will be at this Friday's meeting. We all know it can be challenging to be new to a cohesive group, so make room at your tables. We may also have some of our high school, part-time TEC folks. These individuals have been offering up their prep time to support teachers at their sites. (I think our little room will be way too cozy!)<br><br><strong>ELD trainings </strong>- Starting 12/9 Linda and Robyn will be presenting ELD-specific professional learning. They will present at 3 pm on those days we begin early. <br><br><strong>Holiday Celebration-</strong> Be thinking about a way to share some friendship time before we go on winter break. Our calendars get pretty crazy, so it may be best to dedicate one of our Friday afternoons? Let's get it on our calendar.&nbsp;<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

I also thought our discussion around some of the problems of practice was valuable. </em><br><br><strong>Meeting 12/9</strong>- IMPORTANT UPDATE!!!<br><strong>1:00</strong>- Our meeting begins at 1pm, <strong>Room 106</strong>. <br><strong>1:30 - 3:00</strong>- ELD module training (elementary focus). Single subject folks can use the time to review Canvas module or stay for the training.&nbsp; Another option for single subject TEC is time to collaborate as a TEC team in the CLAS office. Be sure to bring any ELD materials for the training.<br><strong>3:00</strong>- We are pleased there will be an opportunity to collaborate with subject-specific Curriculum Specialists. <br><strong><br>TEC Professional Learning Logs- </strong>You will recall that your work calendar was short due to the change in position and our August start date. They will be presenting most Fridays this month.          <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Oh my Goodness, the year is almost over!!!<br><br>Schedule Switch-a-roo<br>June 12 - 15: </strong>Due to a project I have been given, I will need to cancel the afternoon sessions. Please use this time to work at sites. <br><strong>June 26 - 29</strong>: Due to most TEC at PD and my project demands, the afternoon sessions will be a time for all TEC to work as needed- at sites or the district office.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Holy Moley!!<br><br>Where did the year go? I recall your eager little faces sitting in the space we learned to make our own in the first weeks of this shared adventure. The time was filled with learning, professional growth, possibilities, and- perhaps most precious of all- budding friendships. Like all things new, freshness wears off and is replaced with routine. The urgency and inspiration is often transitions to the reality of deadlines and struggles. Let's face it, we are attempting to move mountains!  In each of you I failed to see that occur; the petals remained fresh; there were no signs of wilting.<br><br>Like many, my days are filled with promise and disappointment. I have been stretched to learn more and do more. There remains one constant in my life; however,. I work with amazing people who push me to be the best me I can be. But it really isn't about us, is it? Maybe that reality is our fuel.<br><br>You remind me that our work matters. Thank you for an amazing and rewarding year. <br><br>Marisol</div>]]></description>
