The in-person ethical dilemmas added another layer of reflection. I noticed that when faced with gray areas or competing priorities, I relied most on fairness and accountability to guide my reasoning. I also learned that I tend to seek solutions that minimize harm and preserve trust, which shows how much I value relationships and responsibility in my decision-making.

Listening to my team members share their perspectives was equally valuable. Some emphasized efficiency, innovation, or loyalty more than I did, which made me realize how diverse value systems can enrich team problem-solving. At times, their approaches challenged me to consider angles I might have overlooked, while other times our shared commitment to honesty and respect reinforced my confidence in those principles.

Overall, the experience showed me that while my values strongly influence my professional ethics, being open to others’ perspectives can strengthen my ability to navigate complex situations in a balanced and thoughtful way.

Collaboration and effective communication in healthcare is vital for providing quality care to patient. In saying this, I found that my top values were faith, family and freedom, which are applicable to my personal and professional life. As a future physician, I believe that it is vital to keep my faith at the center of everything that I do, as it grounds me. Additionally, it provides me comfort and peace in unpredictable and challenging situations, knowing that I can fall on my relationship with God during these heightened situations. This evening, I learned that I have to listen more to others and be receptive on every angle of care for the patient. Additionally, I learned that there is something to learn from every single situation and case that I have the opportunity to be a part of. As I mentioned before, my faith drives my decision making, along with conversing with close family members in confidence on how I can provide better care for patients along with being the best version of myself in a clinical setting. I can't wait for many more opportunities to grow not only as an individual but also as a student doctor and eventually physician. 

Collaborating with other healthcare professionals was a a great experience. Through these discussions, I came to appreciate that although each of us will develop expertise in different fields, what unites us is a common set of values and a shared passion for helping our patients. Working in an interdisciplinary group reminded me of the importance of seeking out diverse perspectives and learning from one another. For example, consulting a pharmacist for suggestions on an alternative medication when a patient cannot afford the first-line option demonstrates how teamwork directly benefits patient care.

During our discussions of ethical dilemmas, I noticed how openly everyone contributed their insights. We explored concepts such as autonomy, justice, and the central role of communication, both between patients and providers and among members of the healthcare team. Gaining a deeper understanding of one another’s roles ultimately enhances collaboration and leads to more effective, patient-centered care.

The card sorting activity provided a productive means to reflect and share. Coming into the discussion, I leaned towards "black and white" thinking, my faith being the major contributor to what is "right" or "wrong." The case study activity allowed me to see my biases more clearly and address some preconceived notions that I hold. The interactive expericne with my group, the larger group and the professors allowed me to dig deeper and ask questions of "why"?

Discussing ethical dilemmas with a team coming from different backgrounds with vairous expertise was enlightening to say the least. I really had not thought deeply about a pharmacists role in sitauions like the cases and so it was incredble to hear my peers speak about that. 

leaves with well-rounded care and prevents gaps in care when all aspects are covered with each team member with different expertise seeing the patient and making sure those specific needs are met. They go hand in hand and all affect the patient equally.

I also started to think of the patient not just as someone we are treating, but also as someone’s parent, son, daughter, or child. That perspective helped me keep dignity and compassion at the center of decision-making. The activity showed me that ethical dilemmas do not always have clear-cut answers, but when each profession brings its expertise, the team can balance autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, and justice in a fair and thoughtful way.

Following the sorting activity, we attended a lecture on core ethical principles, including beneficence, non-maleficence, autonomy, and justice. After the lecture, we broke into small groups to discuss ethical dilemmas through case studies. These discussions challenged us to think critically and collaborate with our peers from different healthcare professions. My group shared many similar perspectives, which allowed us to build on each other's thoughts and deepen our understanding of the issues. We explored how our personal morals influence our professional decision-making. The ethical dilemmas helped us step into the shoes of the healthcare professionals we aspire to become, giving us a glimpse into real-world situations we may face. Through this experience, I realized that I strongly prioritize respecting the patient’s wishes and overall well-being. To me, honoring a patient's autonomy and promoting their happiness aligns directly with my core values and is essential to providing ethical and patient-centered care. Overall, this IMPACT event reinforced my commitment to becoming a thoughtful and ethical healthcare provider who prioritizes her patients' needs.

Talking through the ethical dilemmas with my team was one of my favorite parts because it showed how differently people can approach the same situation. Some of my teammates led with fairness or justice, while others focused on empathy or accountability. At first, our answers didn’t always line up, but hearing their reasoning helped me see the strengths in their approaches. It showed me that having a mix of values on a team can make decisions stronger and more well-rounded, and I want to carry that mindset into my future practice.
