The Second Battle of Bull Run was fought in Manassas, Virginia. Pope misunderstood the battlefield and gave confusing orders and the other Union commanders would not help him. The Union Soldiers were captured and the Confederates gained lots of food and supplies from the victory.

* It was also called the Battle of Second Manassas and the Confederate Army killed a ton of the Union at once and won the war.
* Stonewall Jackson ordered an attack on Pope's troops at Brawner's Farm on August 28th. This fight was not won by either side. Pope thought that he had Jackson's troops trapped near an unfinished railroad and started attacking on August 29th.
* Jackson's troops held up against them and Confederate General James Longstreet brought 28,000 more troops.
* The Confederates won this and McClellan almost lost his command.
* The Union soldiers lost, but them being in Virginia helped many slaves escape to the North.
* Pope hesitated when making a lot of decisions and the commanders were slow when coming to his aid which eventually led to their loss.

* By the South winning the battle, Lee had the opportunity to lead his army across the Potomac River into Maryland. This was their first time fighting in the North.
* The Confederates felt very confident with their victory and this led to Lee's successful Maryland Campaign, in which the troops invaded Maryland and started battles at Harper's Ferry, Antietam, South Mountain, and Shepherdstown.
