14. What is most important to you in life?

The thing that is most important to me in life is God and Jesus. I am a Christian and I love the LORD.

15. What is the relationship between learning and #14?

It is always good to know more about what you believe in. I believe in God and I like to learn about him. Also I believe that the Lord is teaching us new things everyday and trying to help us grow. In the sense of school, I guess it's always cool for me to learn something new and figure out how it relates to God. I believe that God created everything, and it is pretty neat to learn things in science and think,

"Oh. That was God. Cool."

21. If I get out of your way this year, what will you be able to achieve?

I guess we will be able to work together and figure things out without the answers being directly told to us.

Other people.
We can learn so much from others if we open our minds and hearts to understand their passions, motivations, fears, and needs. Schooling doesn't traditionally teach us how to learn from each other. All of the work I've done outdoors gains meaning when I see the positive impact nature has on other people, and on myself. What would our lives mean without ever connecting to one another? I know that some people have a harder time with that than others, and I believe that is when it becomes especially meaningful to make those connections.

17. Who are your heroes or role models?
John Coltrane: He never stopped creating because he had an incredible drive to keep learning and breaking barriers.

Maya Angelou: What an amazing woman! She was able to say all of the things that people didn't want to hear because of her unending grace and moral compass. Ms. Angelou spreads love and determination with each book, poem and interview.

Pele: From the streets, he found a passion for football (soccer) like none other, ever. He spent his professional career inspiring others to practice and practice and practice. Then he spent his retirement lifting up his community, coaching football to young men with few options. Simply the best.

George: Why do we even do outdoor ed?
Ms. Jean: That question isn't entirely for me, but should also be directed towards Dr. Evans and Ms. Christie Huck.
Here's why I think outdoor ed is important:
1. For the past few generations, young people have had most things that they need supplied to them from their families, schools, churches, etc. Until very recently, all humans (in their own tribes, villages, etc) went through a "rite of passage" where they had to test themselves mentally and physically. There were no grades, no right answers, just a need to figure out how to get through this challenge and on to adulthood. This is when young people really got to know themselves. They quickly realized their strengths and weaknesses, both of which are necessary to know if we are to live a good life. Anyway, outdoor ed offers experiences so outside of the norm for young people these days that they are needed to replace our lost cultures.
2. By and large, city kids have very few real experiences with nature. Outdoor Ed offers them a chance to explore and investigate nature in an environment where they feel safe. Hopefully, this early experience will help instill a love for nature (or at least to see the need for it), and later in life, you all will continue to appreciate the natural world.
3. Spending time outside in a natural setting has proven therapeutic for many people with a diverse array of needs and issues. I've seen this directly, and it might be the main thing that keeps me working this type of job.

Well, I guess my drive would be to keep my family, and others who I care about safe, and to take knowledge from every day, because weather in or out of school, every day, there is something to learn.

Question 17: I don't have any role models, but I do have insporations. My inspirations are Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, N.W.A., my brother Paul and Jesse Williams. First and foremost I say Chris Brown because he domestically violated Rihanna. Now before you go sucking your teeth and wild out on me without giving me a chance to explain let us look at it this way okay. This was a point as an artist's career where something goes wrong either for misconception or unintentional endeavors. Of course his was unintentional, but what makes him even more of an inspiration is the fact that regardless of how deep the water ran he took right in the chin. Chris didn't try to lie about he owned up to it because that is what us men do. Chris did his time and it's you love him or you hate him when it come down to it. Same thing with Lil Wayne he was being misconceived by the police (as the do for all black people) and went to jail twice while he was being framed. He got shot in the chest and the bullet was a millimeter away from his heart so they stitched him up and he left. N.W.A. because regardless of what the cops said they played there music because they can do what they want as the rest of us can. My brother Paul because I've never had a dad or a father figure to learn anything from or a brother to teach me anything so I'm the man of the house and I have to learn about everything on my own. Ever since I've met him he has made it so much easier on me teaching me about football, basketball, and just being a man in general. Now Jesse Williams winning the BET Humanitarian Award back in June was a step forward to making America great.
