Toussaint Louverture was the leader of the Haitian Revolution and used his military knowledge to win the Haitian Revolution and freed slaves.

The call for Independence was caused by Napoleon's army in Portugal and Spain, and the royal family arriving to Brazil. The Brazilian Independence did not however end with the abolishment of slavery. Prince Dom Pedro is best known for the man who declared Brazilian Independence from Portugal in 1822. He became Emperor of Brazil but returned to Portugal to claim the throne when his father died.
