The picture brings back lots of memories for me! I can remember when I was in 4th grade and it was the year of "group work." We were all randomly placed in a group and worked in this setting throughout the year. My mom always reminds me of this one day. I came home from school with a STACK of papers and told her I had to complete all of this work. What about my group? Well, they weren't doing the work, so I took it upon myself to bring it all home. I mean, I wanted a good grade. This picture represents that year for me. Although I have been on the end of dumping out the water (even by myself), I am certain that I have probably turned my shoulder in other group settings and ignored. GCA FAST is a team. A team that works so well together, helping one another, to ensure student success. I am happy to be a part of this team!

~Fran Rollins

The guys in the boat are obviously not working as a team. Two of them are doing all the work, while the other two are not doing anything at all. But one can assume that 'if' the two working to get the water out succeeds, then everyone in the boat will take credit for the work that resulted in them being successful. I think illustration is to remind us all that everyone should and must carry our own weight. "We're all in this together! " (from High School Musical) :-)

Jessica Davis When I look at this photo, I see that the boat isn't going anywhere. Eventually, the water will overtake the boat, and then there will be nothing left. But, if the two men worked with all the crew members on the boat, and everyone was doing something to get the water out/fix the hole, then the boat could stabilize and move forward with the current.

I think it is always important to think of others and share what works that way it might make someone else's job a little easier and more successful. No "I" in team and we should all work together so that we can all be successful with our students and our students will benefit from our sharing because our success is their success.

For me, one of the first questions that come to mind is, "Are these men friends???!!!" The four men in this picture are apparently divided by 2's, with different agendas. Eventually, the entire boat will sink! However, the two men at the top are only thinking in the current and not planning for the future events. Therefore, this could lead to being a detriment to their future, if all of the four men do not start working together. If they all work together and communicate, then all will not be lost, and they may be able to save each other!

I notice two guys doing all the work while the other 2 are kicked backed, laughing it off. Eventually, the two doing all the work will get tired... if the other two don't jump in and help, the boat is going down - and they will ALL go down with it! And "help" can be in the physical form as well as offering ideas and suggestions on what to do different to make the outcome successful. This picture is a great representation of how we all need to pull our own weight in order for the TEAM to be successful. The stronger we are as a team, the more effective we will be with our families.

Two of the guys are lounging while two of the guys are working to remove the water. The guys that are choosing not to help aren't taking into consideration that if the boat sinks, they are all going down! If everyone in the boat helped out, they would be more successful. Teamwork is crucial in this case. When everyone works together, great things happen! As Advisors, we can share our ideasstrengths and struggles to grow as a team and as individuals. If we all go above and beyond to help each other achieve our personal goals, we are unstoppable as a team!

The picture shows four men in the same boat but each group has their own agenda. The two men that are relaxing are being selfish and not realizing that the holes in the boat will ultimately effect them as well. The team always has one common goal and I think it is important for each person to play their role on the team. It is also critical to realize when your team mate is in distress and needs some assistance. That was not displayed in this picture. We always hear "there is no "I" in team" and "team work makes the dream work." These statements are very true and helps with team cohesiveness.

If we CHOOSE to be go getters and problem solvers, we can make more of our students successful. Not only would that lead to good grades and graduation for the students, but it would increase the chances that those students will have a more developed mindset on how to be successful outside of school.
The two men at the top of the boat fail to realize that the hold at the other end of the boat is their hole too! When one team member is bailing against a hole in the boat, ALL the team is experiencing that hole. Sometimes team members who are doing the bailing may just be too overwhelmed to ask for help or not even realize that their "little hole" could be sinking the boat so they gamely carry on, thinking it's their job alone to keep the boat afloat. I am guilty! Asking for help from other "crew members" is critical when you feel your end sinking or filling with water.

I recently read an AMAZING book called Crucial Conversations. It really taught me how to try and see things from other points of view. It is so easy to make the two not doing anything the villains and ourselves the victims. The book says to ask yourself, if they were great human beings, what is the best case scenario for what could be going on in their brains. For the sake of practicing what I've just learned, I've decided they are taking turns with the other 2. One of them made a joke to lighten the mood.

The two men at the top of the boat are not "pulling their weight" so to speak. Apparently, what they are not realizing is that they are all in the same boat. If the two men at the bottom dumping the water out of the boat are unable to work fast enough at bailing out the water then the boat is going to sink. They should have been working together as a team by taking turns at the tough job. You know they say team work makes the dream work so that is the point that the lazy guys are missing. Working as a team like we do here on FAST, makes everyone's job much easier and more enjoyable. We are all so very lucky to be a part of the best team at GCA and very likely the best team in all of K12 schools.

I noticed that the 2 'bosses' at the upper end of the boat are just sitting there telling the others what to do! They're just glad they're not getting wet themselves. I worked for a boss one time that had this same attitude. I'm so glad we have leaders on our advisement team that don't care to get in the trenches with us, and get dirty themselves. It takes everyone! There's no 'i' in team!

I noticed the same thing as most others did, in which the photo is a horrible representation of teamwork. One way to improve the teamwork, or lack there of, is communication. I believe that communication in an open, honest, and professional manner is a great way to improve teamwork. Also, if the other two men were to stop and think for a moment they would realize that if they don't help out they will drown too. Idiots - LOL!
