The third step of the experiment is to see where the proteins went in the body. 2 subunits are added together to make a complex subunit in the body. Example: The protein is made by adding 2 amino acids and removing the water molecule in the body.

The result of the experiment is when amino acids get built up to make protiens that get used as building materials in the cells. The scientists learned that when eating protien the old protien gets replaced with new protien and some of it goes to our cells and some exit our bodies

What did scientist believe happened to nitrogen BEFORE the experiment?

The scientist believed that most of the nitrogen that is in the rats' waste comes from the proteins they eat. This means that most of the nitrogen from the proteins exits the body, and very little goes to the cells.

The first step of the experiment was to give the rats proteins with an isotope so they could track where the protiens go in the body. Isotopes are atoms that are heavier than the original atom. Leucine is a very important dietary amino acid, and leucine cannot be made in the body, it has to be eaten.
