I think that history is important because it helps you understand why our world is the way it is. I also think that it's important to learn from history and look at the consequences or triumphs of actions/events in the past. I think that historical events that connect to where you come from, whether it's where you live, where your families are from, or just something similar to an event that's occurring right now are the most important. I think that that is something we have been doing in this class and it's important that we continue to learn about our background because it is a part of our identity. I also think that we should be required to learn about how our government was formed as well as what makes up our government like documents such as the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. This is important because it has an incredible amount of historical significance but it also impacts our day to day lives. It's important that we know our personal rights and it's important that we know the foundation that our current government and what it runs off of and was built on. Without it then it's easy to submit to an abuse of power or a leader that doesn’t have our best interests in mind. The quote that I chose was “People without the knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots”- Marcus Garvey. I think that the author meant that without knowing about your historical background you don’t have the stability or knowledge to keep growing. You need to learn about your background to build an identity for yourself and to continue the journey that your past began. The quote shows the importance of studying and learning history because learning about your roots or even the world's roots helps you understand why you or why the world is the way it is. For example, if you look at the Bill of Rights some of the amendments might not make sense. In today’s world quartering soldiers in homes is not a concern of any person but if you look back at history and the time of the American Revolution you can see that it was a problem that was serious enough that they put it in a document to protect future generations. This quote means a lot to me personally because I want to be a lawyer when I grow up and I think that if I’m going to do that I need to be able to understand people's past in order to argue a future for them. This quote can easily be applied to today's world because it's important to build a sense of individuality. If you look around you then you can see that everyone looks different in their own way. This is because despite most of us having grown up in the same town, we all have different roots and experiences that made us who we are and I think that it's easy to forget that.

I think that in order to progress in the future, we must use our knowledge from the past to use for what we should and should not do in order to advance in our society. Thus, as each generation grows up, they should learn the roots of the foundation they live in and how they can improve. History of the past teaches us how certain things improved and did not improve, and also shows us the cycle of history repeating itself. As a American, civics is likely the most important foundation of history to know; as it comes up in our daily life both now and even more as we grow up, I know that we’re going to have to use the knowledge of our civic rights, responsibilities, and more to improve ourselves as a American citizen. Civic society also teaches us how we can improve ourselves in a political and community standpoint, which is to be admired. Truly, I can confidently say I think learning our civic rights and responsibilities is something that should be prioritized. Besides that, I don’t have any confident thoughts on this matter. While it is likely important to learn how not to repeat the same mistakes and vicious cycles, besides that, it really depends on where you are and how history can affect your life. I think perhaps the political societies of many great nations (Rome, Greece, some of French history, etc.) can be taught as a way to have the future be improved for those studying politics and law, but otherwise, some history really isn’t applicable to everyone. However, there is a quote which has led me to believe otherwise - as James Baldwin once said, The great force of history comes from the fact that we carry it within us, are controlled by it in many ways, history is literally present in all that we do.” The author is being very literal in his quote, but it can still be interpreted deeper; the quote conveys the message that, as we are history, and as our environment and our actions are shaped by history, and that we cannot “escape” it. It controls what society we live in, what we are expected to do based on the past, etc. This quote tells us that studying and learning about history is not only important but beneficial and maybe even necessary in some ways, as it controls every aspect of our life, whether we like that or not. There have been so many times where history from the past has affected nations and the like; many communist countries, for example, have dictatorships that have come from one or two powerful families. It wasn’t that one day there was no emperor, and the next day there was; currently, the controlling factors in many countries come from a long line of historic emperors who have slowly shaped their society to their whims. It’s a powerful quote that states the truth and the beauty of history right there. There is no hint of subjection or conviction in the quote - it stands proud and true. This is a quote that can be used in context for almost anywhere, anytime. The politicians of today are affected by history from the past and present. The societies of today, big and small, are affected by their culture, which stems from the past. Many of my - and your - decisions, whether big or small, are affected by the history behind us which guides us and our life as we continue to live and work and experience life in our day to day present. It can be from small tidbits of personal history that affects how we do certain actions, or it can be from a bigger force that affects where we work and do our life.

One reason I think it is important to study history is so that when you are talking to someone, you don’t say something offensive. I also think that it is important to study history because you need to educate yourself on what people went through just to make sure that you have freedom.I do think that there are historical events that are important. One is the battle of Lexington and Concord. I think this is a more important because it was almost like a start to the Revolutionary War. One topic outside of American history that is more important than some other historical events is the Holocaust. I think people need to know what happened to Jews just because of their religion. It is also important to learn about the Holocaust, so you know about the different forms of dictatorship. I also think it shows an excellent way of how to be an upstander versus a bystander. Yes I think there should be topics to learn about in school and one of them is the battles with the Native Americans. I think this is important because we have stolen their land and we need to know what we did to Native Americans just for somewhere to build our house; even though we already had land. The quote that I chose was “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.” I think the author is talking about how if you don’t know anything about the past, you won’t appreciate what people have done to make sure you have the freedom you have now. It is like you don’t know anything about your supporting system. The quote connects to study and learning history because it is sharing how learning history is mandatory so that you know what people did to make you have the support you can now. One example would be, if people didn’t know that Ruth Bader Ginsburg fought for women's rights’, we wouldn’t be able to even get a credit card or buy a house. This quote can be applied to the countries that went through wars and how important it is to honor the lives lost in the battles.

It is important to learn about history so we can learn from our mistakes and make sure not to do that in the future. If we can learn from the mistakes of history and people then we can make the present and future better. History needs to be learned so it does not repeat itself. I think learning about slavery and the world wars is more important than continuing to learn about the Revolutionary War. Learning about the Revolutionary War is very important because that is what shaped America, but we have learned about it almost every year in school. We have not learned about the world wars in detail and I think those are more important because they affected the whole world instead of just a war between 2 countries. Learning about the World Wars should be required because they were big events. I think we should also learn about the holocaust or other genocides/discrimination so we can know how to prevent that in the future. These events were awful and we should do everything we can to prevent any war or genocide from happening. They also affected many people and many were killed for no good reason. I chose the quote: "History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again." I think they meant in this quote that even though we cannot undo the past, we can learn from it and make sure that it never happens again. The past can be cruel and hard to learn about/understand but that can help the future. It cannot be undone, but it can be prevented from happening again. If we learn about history and the mistakes that everyone made we can know how not to act. This can relate to slavery. We have learned a little about this topic this year and if everyone learns about it then we can prevent it from happening again. This quote stuck with me because I always used to find history a little boring. I've learned that if everyone can learn from history's past mistakes, then we can make today better for everyone. Today, we can learn from the mistakes of slavery and segregation. In our present day, there is still a lot of discrimination happening. If everyone could pick up a history book and learn how bad slavery and segregation were, then maybe discrimination would stop.

History is an important subject to learn and know because there are some mistakes made in the past that are better to remember and not let happen again, then there are some important people and things that are also better not to forget about as they made major sacrifices. Some events are more important than others because of the outcome of that event and what happens afterward because of the event. Or other events relating to your family or friends and your background. For example the American Revolution, if the revolution never happened then we might still be a part of Great Britain and the United States of America wouldn’t be a thing yet. I think that we should learn about major events and topics so students and future generations would know why this came to be or know who or what sacrificed what to achieve this. There were many different sacrifices like Nathaiel Hale who sacrificed himself for the good of his country. “History is important, If you do not know history, It’s as if you were born yesterday, And if you were born yesterday, Anybody up there in a position of power can tell you anything, And you have no way of checking up on it” -Howard Zinn. I think that Zinn means that if we don’t know history then we know nothing about us, so anyone who has power and money can basically control us and tell us what to do as they seem to be the higher class and we can’t do anything about it. This relates to the importance of studying history so the future generations won’t make the same mistakes the people of the past have done. This can be shown by the 9/11 terrorist attacks and how ever since that day, the security of the airports has increased massively, and the people in charge making sure that hopefully never happens again. Everyone has made some kind of mistakes, big or small, but the important thing is to make sure that the same mistakes don’t get past you and make sure it doesn’t happen again. Like most people I have made some mistakes in my life and making sure I know the history of not just me, but the world helps me understand what not to do. Today’s world is not the greatest, there are tons of rich and powerful people trying to trick less fortunate people into something that benefits them instead of the person. Knowing your history and many others can help you think of what's right and wrong and preventing yourself from slipping into the hands of the wealthy.

I think studying history is very important because it helps everyone gain an understanding of the past and the ways the past influences the present. One can get an understanding of our world today by simply reflecting on the past, as it causes political, religious, and racial tensions that can only be explained by our history. History helps us learn from past mistakes, and we will now use these historical outcomes to influence our decisions today. History further helps us understand our and others' cultures and where our traditions and customs originated. Yes, I think all history is important, but history subjects that would help a person learn and understand the world today better would be considered more important. Although many past events still help us shape our future, I would consider events such as the Holocaust and 9/11 more important to learn about, as their impacts are still visible in this world today. I also think learning the history of current events is important, such as the war between Israel and Palestine. I think certain historical topics, such as current events or events with the most impact on us today, should be taught in school. These events can help a student understand the outcome of the present so much better. “History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” Maya Angelou, I think the author was trying to inform the audience about the importance of history in our decisions today. Although there are many things we wish we could go back and erase, they impact us today as our past mistakes, as we learn not to put people through these atrocities again. This quote connects to the importance of studying and learning history because it shows the influence history has on people and our world, and we can learn more about our world by studying the past. This quote resonates with me because I, as a human, can understand the importance of our mistakes, the impact they leave on us, and the influence they have on our future decisions. I also empathize with those who suffered in the past due to historical events, but I can understand that they are the reason why I’m so comfortable today. This quote can explain the decisions and intentions of today's world as it highlights the impact history has on it, but it also helps people understand today's political decisions and the processes that influence them.

I think that it is important to study history because it teaches you how we acquired our land, and what we did to win certain battles. I do think that certain historical topics are more important than others because for example something like the Revolutionary War is a very big event that happened in our life, and I think that that war was very important, while topics like how we vote for our president is not as important. I think historical topics like large wars, how we got all 50 of our states, and about our presidents and what they did should be required to learn about in school because those events can help us understand what past presidents did that were really important, and things that they did not do that maybe they should have, or maybe it was better not doing, so certain things like that should be required to be taught in school. Maya Angelou was trying to say that even though history has done some terrible things, we have to face it with courage and confidence so that we do not need to live in it again. This quote connects to my opinion on the importance of studying and learning history because the only way we do not have to witness these battles again or witness harsh things that happened to our country is if we learn about them, so we know how not to go to war, or how not to do some of these things that have happened. This quote resonates with me because a couple of years ago I had a hard time understanding the importance of learning history, so learning more about how we need to face history with courage so that we won't have to live it again showed me the importance for why we need to learn about this. This quote can be applied to today's world. After all, it teaches people that learning history is necessary and it will one day help us more than a lot of people think.

I think it is important to study history because learning about our past can help us improve and not make the same mistakes. This can also help you improve your knowledge of your country and the world in general. In my opinion some topics are more important than others because some people are affected way more people causing lots of deaths and some cause small damages affecting a lot less people. So I think some events are more historical and matter more. I think it is important to learn about your own country and how it was created and who used to live here and it is less important to learn about other countries that you aren't from. The quote I chose was He who controls the past controls the future, he who controls the present controls the past. They mean that if you take leadership one time it will last a long time and that people will always remember you for that. If you study and know your history there will be more of a chance for people to trust you causing them to vote for you letting them control the past, present and future. If you study and know your history there will be more of a chance for people to trust you causing them to vote for you letting them control the past, present and future. These quotes resonated with me because the more knowledge you have the more people believe and trust you.

It's important to know how the place you call home came to be and the people who really made it happen. As many people know, history often repeats itself and we can maybe avoid certain really bad things that have happened by looking at how the people in the past did it and not make the same mistake. Yes, I think the American revolution and both world wars are the most important to American students because those are what impact all people in America .Yes, everyone should know how they get to where they are right now (like the American + French revolution) and the customs we have adopted from other countries. We should also know the cause of all world wars and how certain people's actions impacted the entire world.

I think studying history is important because it is important to know how the country was formed and how our taxes work. Also, I think that we should study History because most people don’t know how the justice system and our government work. Another reason it is important to learn about history is because it is necessary to learn your rights and freedoms that are outlined in the Bill of Rights. Historical topics that are more important than others are how our justice system and government work. This is more important than other historical events and topics because it directly relates to our lives. Also, It is more important to learn about our liberties than some other topics because if you don’t learn about our liberties now, who will teach them in the future? Historical topics that I think should be required and should be taught in school are the American Revolution and the formation of the Constitution. I think that these topics should be taught because they are detrimental to our understanding of how this country formed and how it works today. I also think that we should learn about the formation of the Constitution so we can learn about why the founders of the Constitution included certain ideas in our Constitution. Quote: History is important. If you don’t know History, It’s as if you were born yesterday. And if you were born yesterday, Anybody up there in a position of power can tell you anything, and you have no way of checking up on it. Howard Zinn. The author of this quote means that if you don’t know about history, you can easily get taken advantage of by people of higher power. Also, he is saying that if you don’t go out of your way to learn history, no one is going to go out of their way to help you understand it either so you should learn it on your own. This quote connects to the importance of studying and learning history because the quote is basically saying that without the knowledge of history, you are vulnerable to misinformation. Also, this quote is telling us that if you don’t know how ideas in history work, it can make it easier for the corrupt justice system to take advantage of you. This quote can be applied to today’s world because there is a lot of corruption in the justice system and those people in the justice system can try to make you believe something that isn’t true. This can be done a lot quicker because of the introduction of social media. Social media makes this faster because anyone could just be scrolling through their phone and find something that they see on their phone and the person reading the post could just assume that what is being said is correct information.

I believe that history is important to learn so we can have a better understanding of how we came to be. We have come very far in history and we are more advanced than we are now but it’s important to understand that it’s because of the past and the events that came before that set the future to where and who we are today in the present. In my opinion, I don’t believe that there are historical events that are more significant than others. People may argue that the history of where you're from is more important, however I think that many of the historical events have influenced others in some way which makes them all important. Wars with other countries influenced others to do the same, and ancient civilizations helped shape future governments. I believe that history is connected, therefore making every single event or subject relevant and essential to understand. I would say learning more about the history of our country would be one of the most important topics, because as American citizens we should grasp a better understanding of our nation and what led us to be where we are today. However, I would also say to not just limit our historical knowledge to American history, but branch out and expand to other nations as well. Other nations and empires have such interesting histories like we do as well, and it’s important to gain a basic understanding of them like with the history of our country as well. The quote I picked that resonated with me was “We are not makers of history, we are made of history.”The author meant that the world we live in today was shaped from the past, and we are only alive because of the events that came before. I believe that the importance of learning history is because it is all connected in some sort of way and has shaped our future. This quote states that we are made from history, meaning that it’s what made us who we are today. I always find it interesting to think about how the world could have been different if our history was different as well. This quote reminds me of those thoughts, and how important it is to remember that the world we live in today is due to the events that occurred in the past. In conclusion, remember that we came from history. Remember the importance of learning it and remember that who we are today is because of the past.

I believe that studying history allows us to learn about ourselves and the world around us which we never really take notice about. History can teach us about the past and challenge our analytic skills of events before our birth, it can inform our decisions in the future. History can create cultural awareness, foster our creativity, and enhance our sense of our own identity/who I am as a person. I believe that topics and events in our current day should be seen and thought of such as events where mass genocide is occurring in Gaza and Israel’s ruthless attacks on civilians, aiming to destroy anything in its path to fighting off Palestinians. Not only do I believe these topics deserve the spotlight and utmost attention, but I believe that we should support and help those in need of shelter, food, water, etc. I believe a topic that should be discussed is the internment camps, although a very sensitive topic this topic can teach students skills about sympathy and the wrongfulness of these camps. I believe that the students should have not the full story of Columbuses journey through the Americas, but they should be taught what happened instead of being brainwashed and forced into learning different, alternative stories. Finally, I believe that kids should be taught about American history and its triumphs and their faults, instead of being taught about the history of American successes, why don’t teachers at middle school (8th-9th grade) teach their students about the dark history and positive side of America instead of making other people look like heroes. Finally, I believe that kids should be taught about American history and its triumphs and their faults, instead of being taught about American history, why don’t teachers at middle school (8th-9th grade) teach their students about the dark history of America instead of making other people look like heroes. The quote that represented my beliefs the most was “History despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” What the author meant by this quote was history will ultimately repeat itself if we are not educated on ourselves and our flaws as a nation, I believe the author targets the dark and terrible parts of history specifically is what we never wish to or want to acknowledge. But these parts of history are the utmost importance as they are the moments you never wish to repeat.

It is important to study history because we can see what past governments were like and learn from them. When studying history we can see past mistakes made by leaders and learn how to avoid errors already made. History is also important because it helps us understand the culture of certain areas and people. We can look back at history and see why some people have certain customs and why some parts of the world are so different than other parts of the world. Learning about history this year was important because a lot of the things we covered happened only a few minutes away and it is very interesting to see the history of the area around us. I think historical topics such as politics and civic action are more important than other political events. Learning about politics informs us more and allows us to better participate in our government. Learning about politics has the most impact on our society now. I think civic action should be required to learn in school. Taking civic action can be a very difficult process and having a teacher walk you through it once will make it easier to do later in life. Learning about civic action this year has given me a deeper understanding of our government and how to change unjust things. I think everyone needs this opportunity and it should be required to learn in school. "History is Important. If you do not know history it is as if you were born yesterday. And if you were born yesterday, anybody up there in a position of power could tell you anything, and you have no way of checking up on it. I think the author means that without the knowledge of history, we will be subjected to believe anything people in power tell us. This quote resonates with me because I believe that without knowing our past mistakes it is so easy for people in power to brainwash us and quietly cause unjust treatment. This quote can be applied in today's world by learning our history and challenging people in power.

I think it is important to study history because it teaches us about how our world and ways of life have evolved to how we live today and it is also important to study history because you learn about the sacrifices people have made for your country and your life. It is also important to learn about the mistakes and tragedies that have happened in history in order to prevent that from happening again. I also think it should be required to learn about the bill of rights ot all the amendments so that people learn from a young age what rights and freedoms they have. I do not think that it is any more important to learn about a certain topic in history because it is all a sequence of events in a way and I think that if everything has happened because of another event in history,or in other word they all the events are connected in a way. I think it should be required to learn about the Native American tribes because in the early years they helped a lot of our early settlements survive. I also think it is important to learn about the early empires that we learned about in sixth grade because I think everyone should learn about how certain aspects of culture and daily life around the world has evolved from how people lived in the roman or greek empires. The quote I chose was, "The great force of history comes from the fact that we carry it within us, are controlled by it in many ways, history is literally present in all that we do" I think the author means that history has influenced every aspect of our lives and that the actions people took hundreds of years ago or millions of years ago is present in our everyday lives. This quote relates to studying history because it shows that history is such a crucial part of our lives and that it is "present in all that we do" which makes it important to understand. This quote resonates with me because it shows how important it is to study history because I have always studied history because I find it interesting but I have never thought about how it affects me in every aspect of my life. This quote can be applied to today's world because some people overlook history and fail to realize the importance of it in our daily lives.

It's important to study history because it grants others knowledge on past events that helped create what America is today. It's also important because it's good for others to acknowledge important people, and their achievements, and how they greatly contributed to create the world we live in today. Studying history is also very beneficial for yourself, for instance, knowing what your amendments are, and your rights. If you weren't to learn history, then certainly you wouldn't know either your amendments, or your rights, and liberties, and that'd put you at a disadvantage for future events. As for topics, or events that are especially important to people, I think it really depends on which topic is being discussed, and how closely related that person is to that topic. For more reasoning, if someone had a family member, or a family friend who was somewhat involved in a sensitive topic they had learned about, they more or may not be somewhat bothered, or feel really passionate about. But regardless, anyone can have much importance for a specific event, or topic whether they are somewhat related to it, or not. In my own opinion, I believe that I've learned all that I wanted to know about. I don't think I haven't learned anything that was crucial to know about, or something that I've been wanting to know. As for others, I think there are some who wish to learn more about a specific topic. An example could be Thomas Jefferson's relations with the people whom he had enslaved. After reading the quote, I think the author meant was that if you don't know your history, or anything important events that made up what the world is today, it puts you in a position where you may not even know your own liberties, and rights. It also puts you at a disadvantage in which you're more likely to believe false information that is being said to you. This quote heavily relates to how it's crucial to know about history, especially how a lot of our history is mainly how we were all created equal, and how we were granted our own rights, and liberties. I think an example that resonates with this quote would be the learning of your own amendments, and America's constitution. I personally believe that those two topics are one of the most important learned topics in history, mainly because of how much it impacts yourself, but also how it gave everyone the right to live freely, and to be independent. This quote resonates with me personally because I strongly believe in the great importance of history because of how much it benefits a person. I think history is something that's actually a bit overlooked, and very unprecciated, and people seem to miss how crucial it is to be able to learn about history. When talking about history, we are quite literally learning about how America, or even the world was brought together, and honorable people who risked their lives throughout that process just to create the world we live in today. Considering all of this, I am very passionate about this quote, and how much it relates to the importance of learning about the world's past.

I think it is important to understand the history of American history because it shows how our government was crafted and how over the years it has improved. It also proves how our government is able to continue to grow and thrive. I believe it’s important to understand past wars and conflict because there will be no end to it. Even today there are wars and conflicts all around the world, and we, as citizens, should be obligated to understand why it is important to help those in need, and how you can perform action to support them. I believe that the history of the American government is the most important historical topic because as American citizens, it’s integral to understand why we have a government and how it functions. Our generation contains future senators, supreme court judges, and even presidents. At our age, we should be educated on the basic ideals and expectations of our government so when we grow older and come to the time where we have the option to take part in our government, we are able to understand the basics. Along with the American government, I think that civic action is a very important subject because American citizens have responsibilities and duties to help support our government. No government will run smoothly without the people of the nation being able to follow the laws and help contain the government. I think that our judicial system should be a required topic to learn in school. As we grow older, we may find ourselves in a situation where we have to deal with the legal system. Breaking laws, filing a lawsuit, being sued, etc. It's important for everyone to understand the civic duties and responsibilities of an American citizen so we are able to support our government, and so if we ever find ourselves in a situation with the judicial system, we understand how things will work and how you have your rights that can protect and justify you.

I think that it is important to study history because it can help us shape the future. Learning from the mistakes the world has made in the past can help people try to make better decisions now. History also influences our lives to this day, so it is important to understand it. Like our units on civic action and the government. Learning how the US Constitution and Bill of Rights came about still influence our lives since they are still used in our country today. Also, learning about the branches of government and the freedoms we have can be important for the future. The Supreme Court cases from the past are important to know about because they also solidify the rights given to us. They directly effect us, and even if we do not realize it they’re apart of our daily lives.

I’d say that there are definitely certain events that have made a great impact on the world than others, but that doesn’t necessarily make them more important. For instance, war is often taught about in school because it impacts the world so much. I don’t believe that this makes war more important or better than peaceful historic events, but the violence makes it more talked about and well known. I feel like often we are only taught about the bad part of history, which makes sense to learn from them, but I think it is also important to shine a light on the positive parts of history. Lastly, I also believe that we should learn recent history or like current events because it is important to know what is happening around us. In my opinion is really depends on where you’re from. I think for us, living in Massachusetts, it is more important to learn about the history of our country and state. I have a friend from Columbia and she does half a year of just Columbian history, which is important for the people living there. Overall, I’d say that it should be required for schools to teach the history of the place you are living in to learn more about where you’re from. That being said, I’m not saying that we should only learn about America or she should only learn about Columbia because it is important to learn about many different places and aspects of history. For example I feel like it would be interesting to see how/if British students are taught about the American Revolution/Revolutionary War.

For my quote I chose "We are not makers of history. We are made of history.” -MLK. I think the author meant that people now aren’t creating new history as much as they are taking history of the past and applying it or learning from it. We need to use history to be able to understand the world now and continue on with it. That history will always be apart of society and we must continue to make it better. It’s not about creating new history, it’s about taking the old history and improving it. I think it captures how everything around us is history. It shows that what’s happening now is also history. The decisions people make, the things that they do, happen because of history. A good leader wants to improve their country, and that means taking the past, taking the history, and making it better. This shows that it is important to know our history so we can change and fix it. On a smaller scale this resonates with me because I am made up of my past experiences and memories. The choices I make and opinions I have come from memories and past experiences that support my decisions. Without my past, or my history, I would not know how to make choices, and I would not have any beliefs. This world should be using our history, and learning from it to help make their decisions. I think as it is important for people to learn from their mistakes, it is also important for countries and groups of people to. Our should be learning from past laws, act, and wars to help them make new choices now for the better.

I think it is important to study history because if we don’t learn from past mistakes and experiences, history will repeat itself. Bad things will keep happening and society will get nowhere. No innovation, no creativity, no solutions. I think that most history topics are equally important, but because we live in the US, it is important to learn US history. We should know how our country was founded and how it functions today. I also think that we should learn about the ancient civilizations because not only are they still very interesting, they are the pioneers of civilization and deserve to be recognized. The topics that should be required in school are both world wars, early civilizations, most of US history (including before the US was a country), and early inventions. These topics are important and should be learned because they provide information on what people did that was bad or good, and no matter what time period, most good morals can be applied to life right now. The quote I chose was “He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past.” - George Orwell. I think the author meant that the past shapes the future and the present, but people in the present can mold the past into something else to try to change the way society thinks. I think this quote is important because it is saying how what has happened in the past is the reason we are here today, but people here today are the ones who mold the past to fit their needs. I think that during wartime, there is propaganda everywhere. Countries want you to join their army or buy war bonds or donate supplies. Usually they do this with ads or posters that portray certain people or things a certain way. It tries to make it seem like it is talking directly to you. This quote is talking about propaganda and there has certainly been a lot of propaganda in the past. I read 1984, the book this quote was from, and it really resonated with me. I think that there is a lot of propaganda now, so taking everything at face value means that you will be swayed by everything. The past is solid, but people’s views of it change almost daily. In today's world, people are pushing others to think certain ways and believe certain things, creating a society where everything could be misinformation. I think the key here is to take everything with a grain of salt because you don’t know if the person you are getting information from has a bias or is trying to make you think a certain way.

I think it’s important to study history because it’s essential to understand events of the past that influence our world today. These past events, whether we know them or not, can easily have an impact on our political parties, our beliefs, our values, and even our daily lives. These past events can even influence our government today and give us a sense of what it was like living in the past or how certain things that are a normality for us came to be. I especially think that it’s important to learn about Native Americans and the American Revolution because they tell a story of how we got to where we are today. However, these events also allow us to reflect on what Native Americans and soldiers had to go through for us to be living the way we are today. From a broader perspective, I think that wars in general are important to learn about; wars such as World War I and World War II affected people around the world, not just in the United States, and even some people we may have connections with. It’s also important to learn about these wars because they often have huge effects on society today. I think certain topics should be required to learn in school. These topics are world wars and big events such as slavery or the Holocaust. These better our understanding of how multiple different groups of people got to where they are today, whether they’re foreign citizens, Jewish people, or black people. They also give us a broader sense of what it was like living for some people in the past and how that’s affected our society today. For example, the idea of inferiority from the slave trade has made it difficult for African Americans to achieve equality in society. My quote was “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots.” I think the author meant that aspects of our lives and events that have influenced our lives contribute to who we are as a person today. A tree without roots has no connection to where it came from, giving it no relation to its past of being a tiny sapling. It’s important to make these connections with our past to understand ourselves now. This quote resonates with me because I grew up in another state. I had to leave my now long-distance family in the state, but I still look back on the place I lived and the memories made because it shaped who I am. This quote can be applied to today’s world by connecting it to the past of our many countries, groups of people (religions, races, etc), confederations, allyships, and even more that currently exist. This knowledge of the past influences everybody in the world, whether it’s where they’re living, what they believe in, or how they’re living. People who don’t know this history cannot understand how they got to who they are today. In the same way, the events, culture, and origins that we’re experiencing right now will become important to who we become in the future as a society.

History must be studied so humans can learn from their mistakes. By learning history, we can see what worked well among humans and what led to tragic happenings. Without this, humankind would just continuously repeat past mistakes, and we would never have become more advanced or smarter than the past generations. Some historical events and subjects are more important than others. For example, tragic events such as the holocaust, 9/11, etc. The events where something bad happens are important to learn about to prevent things like those from happening again. In school, we should be required to learn about how the great ancient civilizations functioned and thrived. This could help us create a better society by incorporating the best attributes of great civilizations. We should also learn about all of the major wars that took place, such as World War I and World War II. This is because an event as big as the whole world going to war is essential to learning about why it happened and how we could prevent something like that from happening in the future. My quote was, A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots. I think the author meant that we are not complete and unstable without knowing our past. This connects with the importance of history because it says we need knowledge of our history and past because we are unstable and incomplete without it. It can be applied by making people learn their history and the past so we can have roots in the ground, just like the tree.

I think it's important to study history because we need to learn about how our world has come to what it is now. I'd say civics is a very important topic with our civic action projects. This is because it helps us learn about our problems in the world on a national, state, town level and see where our issue is bad and see where it's not so bad. Yes I think the war of 1812 embargo act are the two most important things to learn in 8th grade history. Because they are the 2 most important and interesting things in my opinion that we have learned about in history. The quote that I chose was “He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past”. I think the author means that you control everything that happens in your life. This connects to history because when we have notes and I don't do them that affects my future of the test's outcome. This is because I don't really think what I do currently won't matter in the future but it will matter because I control my future from my past. This can be connected to today's world because many people don't care about what is currently happening to them because they think their future will not be affected but it will be affected.

Some parts of studying history are definitely way more important than others. I think some of it is important because it teaches us how to learn from our past mistakes. Some of it doesn't have much meaning though and I don't think it needs to be trained in so much detail or have so much work to do with it because it is not as important. The way the government works and used to work and your rights are the most important parts in history class because it is good to understand how the government works and what rights you have in the constitution so you are never cheated out of anything. In the quote, “History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” it is saying history holds a lot of pain and mistakes and they can't be undone. If people learn about past mistakes they won't make the same mistakes so they don't have to live through it again and history won't repeat itself. This shows how it is important to study history because if you know about the past you can try to stay away from the mistakes so you don't have to relive it. In history, there were many wars over land and fighting that was very violent killing many people. War was a horrible thing and people realized that by looking at the past. Now there are a lot less wars and people try to stay in their own territory and not go to war with other places. I think I should study more history because I can learn more about the past it can help me. I won't make the same mistakes as other people and try to stay off their paths and maybe make my own. Today there are less mistakes and bad things happening then there used to be because we have learned from the past and tried to stay away from the things that hurt us. We try to do different things and not have any mistakes so we can do better as people and as a country.

It is important to study history so we won't repeat the mistakes of the past. Pretty much every situation that we are confronted with has happened before throughout the course of time and by studying history we can learn how to deal with those situations by seeing what worked and what didn't. It is also very interesting and fun to learn about all of the past things that happened because it gives you a fuller view of the world. When talking about which topics are more “important” I think that relevant is a better word than important, as all parts of history are important, but not all are relevant to our current world situation. For instance, the history of tensions during the cold war could be very useful and relevant in this day and age considering the current situation with Ukraine and the new tensions with Russia. An example of a not so relevant topic is the history of agriculture because it doesn't really matter so much. I really think that the more relevant topics should be required because it is important for the youth to learn about the past that directly affects the present. One of these topics is world war 1 and 2. I think that it is wrong that middle schoolers don't learn about that time period that pretty much set up the world today. The quote “History, Despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” shows that She meant that if people learn about history, then we won't make the same mistakes that others did. One example of this was that I think that World War two partially happened because of the collective forgetting and mismanagement of the causes of world war one, and if people in Europe had really thought about it, they might have been able to save lives. We need to learn about the past so we don't repeat the mistakes that our ancestors made. We are doing this every day in history class.

I think it is important to study history because it can tell you a lot about the country or place where you live and how it started. Studying history can help us improve on some of the mistakes we have made in the past and improve them for the future. History has a lot of important information and learning about it can help you have a better understanding and that can help you succeed and life and be able to teach others about it. Studying history can give you a lot of options in life and there are a lot of jobs that require historical knowledge and taking a little bit of time out of your day to study a little bit of history can help you a lot in your life and what you choose to do. I think that everyone would have a different opinion when answering the question of what you can add. I think for me the topics about how the country I live in was formed and the important people that began my country are some of the most important historical topics. I think that American history and some of the events like the War of 1812 and the American Revolution are important topics in history and everyone should learn about them. I think that these are important events because they shaped who we are today and started to shape the countries. The quote I chose was “A people without the knowledge, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots”. I think by this quote the author meant that if you don’t know about the history and the events that happened in the past, you might not be as sturdy as a tree with roots. If you know the historical backgrounds and the events, you can be more sturdy and more stable like a tree with it’s strong roots. I think this quote connects to the importance of studying history because it talks about feeling more whole and connected once you have a better understanding of history. I think that one important example of history that connects to this quote is the idea of your community and how things like political parties and states became. I think this is important because if you follow your community and participate and learn about your state and community, it can benefit your life a lot. This quote resonates with me because I believe that having a historical background on important events can benefit your life greatly. I think that history and background knowledge are sometimes overlooked because people believe that since it happened in the past, it does not matter. I disagree with this belief because even though it happened in the past, we can still learn from it and it can change our perspective and the way we learn. I think this quote can be applied to today's world by prioritizing the history of our world and making it an important topic. If everyone focuses a little more on history, we can all have sturdy roots and stand stronger like trees.

I believe that it is important to study history so that we know our origins and our past. History also makes us more aware of our world and how it works. We are all so caught up in our lives that we fail to recognize what is happening all over the world. History also helps us learn from our previous mistakes. History can be dark and brutal but there are always lessons that can be learned from the past. History shapes us all whether we know it or not. It impacts us in major ways from our upbringing to our perspective. Certain historical topics, events, or subjects are more important than others. While all history is important, some events have a bigger impact on society than others. These events shape our life, and community and help us learn from our past mistakes. Learning from these big events helps us create an even better society. Certain historical topics should be required to learn in school, 2 of which are civic action and politics. The United States wants the citizens to have a say in our government, if we want to be active members in our government then we have to have knowledge on this topic. If not, then we would make extremely poor and biased decisions that would not help our country. Politics deals with our lives, it impacts the laws, our community, and much more. We should all be active and keep up with politics. Another topic that should be taught in school is civic action. Civic action benefits our community and demonstrates how we can make an impact. I chose the quote “History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” by Maya Angelou. In this quote, Angelou represents the importance of learning from painful historical events to avoid repeating them in the future. The line “History, despite its wrenching pain” demonstrates how history is often brutal and dark. Meanwhile “But if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” shows how if we learn from our mistakes, we can avoid going through these terrible experiences yet again. This quote resonates with me because I like how it admits that we have made terrible mistakes and decisions; it also highlights the importance of recognizing and learning from these mistakes. This quote can be applied to today’s world personally because it is warning us not to make careless mistakes, especially with all of the war and conflict going on it is urging us to think wisely before we act.

I think it is important to study history because it helps us learn from our past mistakes so that we don’t make them ever again. It is also important because it is interesting to learn how things came to be. If we didn’t have this information we would be blindly taking a step forward in our country and wouldn’t know what to do. History guides us into making decisions that benefit us in the best way possible. There are some examples, like the Revolutionary War is a major point in history compared to something like Shay’s Rebellion. Sure it sparked a few things, but it never left a mark like the Revolution did. The Revolutionary War also made a lot of other situations and things possible due to it just existing. Wars are almost always things that people can never forget. Some that I think should be required are the Revolutionary War, Vietnam War, Boston Tea Party, Boston Massacre, Tea Act, Articles of Confederation, and The Constitution. A quote that I chose about history that resembled parts of me is that “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots”. The author meant that people who don’t remember their past history, cultural origin, mistakes, and successes, cannot grow as a society/country, just as a tree cannot grow without its roots. If their history is lost, so is their footing. But if they remember their roots, they can stay grounded on where they stand and make decisions that don’t repeat the same mistakes that got their footing lost in the first place.

Looking at history, especially about your country it’s very important to know its history and whereabouts. Especially with America, where our history is so important and it’s the reason why we have everything today, we need to understand it and especially the Constitution. The Constitution is responsible for the laws and amendments we have today and if we don’t understand it then you could be getting your rights violated without even knowing about it. Also, just knowing the world in general is important, it can help you make connections and feel empathy for other countries and people but also understand their culture better. This way, you won’t offend them because you know why they are doing what they are doing, wearing what they are wearing, etc. I think the events that result in something in the present like the American Revolution, the Philadelphia convention, and some others are more important than certain other events. This is because they relate more to our current day, and if you understand them you’ll better understand how we got here or how a country operates. This is why I mentioned understanding the Constitution in the last bit because the Constitution is like our rulebook that we’ve been using and if you don’t follow it you’re not abiding by the rules and breaking the law. In my opinion, the mainstream more relevant topics like the Civil War, our presidents, the Rev. War, the World Wars, and some other events and topics we should cover. I think we should cover these since these have had a huge impact on the world in terms of the power balance and the effect on the lives of the people in those countries affiliated. Also, the history of some of the most famous landmarks would be cool like the Great Wall of China or the Grand Canyon would help us if we ever go there. Why I keep mentioning these topics is because they will be more relevant to our lives and maybe if you go to one of these places you’ll say “Hey I learned about this in my 8th grade History class!” The quote I chose was “History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage need not be lived again”. I think the author meant that looking at and understanding history can be painful looking at history or decoding the language back then except we can’t undo it. Because of that, we have to withstand and just understand it for the better of our future and the knowledge about how we got here or what works and what didn’t work. If you do this and try to understand it and use that knowledge (with courage), then you won’t need to face the bad times of history because you’ll prevent those mistakes in the future. This is like our American History, like the Articles of Confederation which was a very weak government and we learned from our mistakes in the past to create the Constitution that clearly has worked better. Now because we took time to look at what was wrong and change that, we have a working system that’s still holding up. I think this resonates with me personally because it always affects me. Whether I’m learning history or just basic life skills, I can use this to always make myself improve and get better at the things I love. In today’s world, this quote can be as simple as looking at your mistakes and fixing them, but it also can mean that we need to learn from our mistakes and not just fix them but never make them again.

I think it's important to study history because it allows us to learn about what our past was like. Not just when we first came to America but also the early civilizations of the world. It helps us understand a lot about who we were and how we have evolved from that. Learning history helps us understand how our first governments worked and how they were bad. We can learn about how there was a lot of struggle when we first came to America. I think there are a bunch of historical events and topics that are more important than others. This is because some topics have more relevance than others. I think that all topics are important but some have a greater impact on us and future generations than others. The Civil War, for example, was an event that put in laws that would abolish slavery. I think there are certain topics that we should be required to learn about. I think we should have to learn about major wars like the American Revolution and the Civil War. We should also learn about our first few presidents. We should learn about the major wars because they had an impact on how we ruled the country. We should also We should learn about our first presidents because they set an example for our current presidents on how to lead a country. My quote was "We are not makers of History. We are made of History." I think he meant that our history is a huge part of who we are. Certain aspects of our history shape our beliefs and how we see others. I think he also means that it's important to learn about history so we can better understand who we are or who we were. This quote connects to the importance of learning history because it shows just how history affects us. Without historical figures such as presidents and our founding fathers, we wouldn't be here and the country would probably look very different. The precedents that the presidents had were carried down to the current presidents and are still being used today. This quote resonates with me personally because I don't think I know enough about my history and the history of America. I think it's important to know about your history. This quote can be applied to today's world because it seems like not many people are interested in learning about our history and their own history and this can affect future generations because they won't know the entire history behind our country and what happened that led up to where we are today.

Studying history is important because everyone should understand how certain things came to be to this day. Without the knowledge of history, there isn't a way for people to relate and understand the workings of the world.

I believe that there are historical events that are more important than others. Even though every detail in history has an impact on the present, big events can have even bigger impacts on how things are run today. Not everyone has to be informed about little events or topics in history.

Historical topics I believe that should be required to learn in school are the Native Americans view-point as settlers pushed into their territory, the Pilgrims, The American Revolution, slavery, and how the government runs. These events should be required because they explain how America came to be, how we fought a war for independence which is what we stand for, the perspectives on the Native Americans who were here before we showed up, and how our government has changed throughout history. Perspectives and independence are huge topics that should be required.

The quote I chose was, "The great force of history comes from the fact that we carry it within us, are controlled by it in many ways, history is literally present in all that we do." - James Baldwin. I believe that James Baldwin meant that we have control over the choices we make that will impact the future that will become history. Everything that we do is history because the present becomes the past once it's already done. History is currently moving every single day, it doesn't stop.

This quote connects to the importance of studying and learning history because the decisions made by leaders, and people during historical times, determines what is going to be written as history during that event. It was a choice for the Pilgrims to travel to America, they didn't have to and they could have stayed in Europe. If the Pilgrims never made the choice to do that then America wouldn't be the same as it is today.

This quote resonates with me personally because everything I say and do will impact my life, and others around me. Anything could happen, good or bad, and if I don't stand up or say something about it then I've missed an opportunity to make a change. Things would be different if someone else said something which isn't bad, but the results could be different.

I think it is important to study history because it is just good to know and interesting what happened in different times before we were born and just important to at least try it and see if you like learning about it. Yes I do , I think it is more important to learn about for example the war of 1812 then like the chinese empire of 1700. And I think this because I feel wars are more important than other topics. I also think something that has to do with where you're from , like your city's history, can be more important. Like for me the boston tea party. My third example is I think if you're from America, the history of your country should be important to learn .Like I said before, the history of your country and some past wars that your country went through would be a topic I think would be interesting to learn about. And maybe even their countries' past leaders/presidents would be important for them to learn about. I think what they are trying to say is that a person is the one who controls what they do in life. I don't really have a guess how this quote has to do with history though. What this quote means to me personally is everyone can control the past if they do what is right in the future.

History allows us to understand how our government works and everything that happened in the past. Understanding history can open our eyes to what life was like before we were around and have a different perspective on our world and all the issues in it. I think the American Revolution is a little more important than other topics because it was one of the first successful revolutions and it shows how humans can create change in our world. It’s also how our country was formed and it’s patriotic to dive into the past of one’s country. There definitely are topics we should be required to learn too. I think we should study the largest wars in our history like World War 2 because it teaches us what mistakes led to those moments while also honoring those who died fighting. I really liked the quote about learning history, “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree with no roots.” I believe the author meant that we need to understand and comprehend our past in order to grow. This quote connects to learning history because a tree cannot grow without its roots, just like humans cannot improve without knowing what has succeeded in the past and what has not. When the Constitutional Convention came together to build a better form of government, they looked at the Greeks who had a thriving republic. They also were inspired by the Iroquois Confederacy and their ability to balance the powers of the government. They incorporated both into the eventual Constitution which has been in use for over 200 years. This quote shows me that interpreting the past gives us the chance to learn from our mistakes and to create a better life for ourselves. Today, this quote can inspire others to learn more about history or maybe important current events that aren’t in the past just yet. Staying informed is a strong tool that can influence the big choices you make.

I believe it is important to study history because it is important to understand the past as without the past we would not exist and if the history we have right now was different then the world as we know it would be completely different. It is also important to not repeat the bad parts of history and the way we can do that is by studying how those events were originally caused and avoid the path that led to that event to happen. I think people should know about their own countries history as understanding where from is very Important for two reasons because (1) people should understand how their country even became a country and (2) understanding the past can help you understand current day problems for example the war in Ukraine a big reason the war is happening is because of Russia capturing Crimea in 2008. I also think that the world wars are very important because they pretty much reshaped the world and made us understand just how destructive modern weapons can be and not to mention how many important figures came from these wars such as D. Eisenhower and W. Churchill. I think that every country should have a year where they study their country's history. I also think that people should learn about both world wars as they are by far the most important and influential wars in modern history. Another subject that should be studied is the history of the roman empire and republic as Rome has had a large influence on the world and not enough people understand that. I also feel like the history of South America is not really well known and is under explored and people like Bartolo Colon are not as well known as they should be around the world. I also think people should learn about African civilization like the Mail and Ethiopian kingdoms because they are also not as well known as they should be. History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again. He is trying to say if we understand the bad parts of the past then we can avoid them in the future. It connects to the importance of studying history as if we did not study history we would not be able to avoid repeating the same mistakes. I have always thought that if we understand the past we can avoid the bad things of the past in the future and having someone else confirm that to me feels nice. This quote can be easily applied to the real world: just continue to study and understand the past so we can avoid bad things from the past in the future.

In my opinion, it is important to study history to get a better knowledge of what has happened throughout the years in our country and in other countries if you don't get to learn about the history of the past then you will not be able to understand why certain things happened and so that you can have an opinion on it because without having any background information on a topic you won't understand and won't be able to talk about it or grasp why something happened. Yes, some events tend to have more meanness than others like the Revoulnary War when we went to war with Britain because after some people from Britain left to come to the Americas Britain thought that they could tax us because they thought we were still a part of there nation then after we went to war we did not have to pay taxes anymore this is important. After all, if we did not go to war, Britain might still be taxing and controlling us today. I think the topics that we should be required to learn are the topics that go with America and are important to American citizens because if you live in America it's pretty important to understand the culture of our country because, without the background information, there's a lot of events that make America how we are as a society today its especially important for the new generation to be learning about the history so they learn from it and expand so that they are better educated and that in the future we can make our country better. A quote by James Baldwin states The great force of history comes from the fact that we carry it within us, are controlled by it in many ways, History is present in everything that we do In this quote the author is trying to tell us that history is a big part of our lives and is in everything that we do so without it you will be uneducated on the topic. This quote supports the idea of studying history and learning more about it because it says that it is in everything that we do and controls us, so researching and educating yourself on it would be a good idea. This quote resonates with me because I believe that history controls us and is a big part of our lives without knowing what happened in the past you will be stuck and won't have a good idea of what are bad things to do according to our countries history and what will benefit the country This quote can be applied in today's world by getting to know your history better so that when something comes up where it takes some background knowledge on U.S history you will be prepared and have a good understanding of it.

It is important to study history for a series of reasons. Staying informed on what has happened in the past can help people deal with the present. Knowing how the world came to be is also very important. It can help with discoveries and finding out more about the world. History is also what has shaped our world into what it is today and learning about the past and the mistakes/victories it took to get to where we are today is significant. A common question asked is do you think there are any history topics/events that are more important than others? I think it depends on what you classify as important. Many historical topics, events, and subjects are equally important; you just have to find the right audience. For example, the topic of the Constitution may be more important to people who work in the government than the topic of native americans. I believe that in the end, all topics are equally as important because they all have shaped our world into what it is today. I think that learning about the American Revolution and how America came to be is very important for everyone in America and should be an important topic to learn in school. I think this because what we have learned this year is significant to how America was shaped and is important for us to know in the future. The Constitution and how it came to be is also important to know when we are older because those are our rights and we should know our freedoms. I also think learning about ancient times and other countries are topics we should learn about in school. I think this because history is the whole world, not just America, so learning about other places and the heritage of other places is crucial. A quote that I Think summarizes History is “We are not makers of history, we are made of history.” -Martin Luther King. I think the author means that we are shaped by the past and our history and we don’t choose what we want our history to be. I think this quote connects to the importance of studying history because it shows how we are made up of history and that we need to learn about history to know ourselves. I resonate with this quote because I believe that we are our past and we don’t get to pick and choose what the world was like before us. I think this quote can be applied to the world today because our world today is made up of history and is shaped by our past.

It’s important to study history because, we can learn from the mistakes of those past leaders, civilians, and generals. They help teach us for example, America’s government was created from the mistakes that England made when thinking about the rights of the colonists. I think that we should learn more about present-day history. This can help keep us updated and educated on our government and the movements that are present today like BLM. This is more important to me than learning about a small battle that happened 200 years ago. I think this because battles like those don’t impact us anymore. We in the present day can’t do anything about what happened, but with everyday movements, we can support them and make a real change. Learning about the more gruesome parts of history can help teach us right from wrong like World War 2, what the Nazis did was horrific and should never be repeated. Having this mindset can help prevent things like that from happening again. My quote was “History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” The author is talking about standing up for what's right and what you believe in. Change only happens when there is a push from society, from everyday people demanding a change. We can’t change the past but we can change the future and make sure that those horrible things can’t happen again. This quote has similar messages to what I think learning about history can do for a person and their mindset. Learning about these mistakes can prevent them from happening again, but in order to do this you need to make or support change. A good example of this is the Revolutionary War, patriots everyday people faced mistreatment that they thought should stop, so they took action and after winning the war they looked at these mistakes and built a government off of it.

I believe it is important to study history so we can learn more about our past and how to change it for the future. It is also really important to possibly learn about your ancestry or where you came from. It can be important to learn about your history and ancestry because then you know your family’s past and maybe the struggles that your family had to go through to get to this moment in time. I feel that wars are probably more important to others because you never know, someone's grandparents or family could have been fighting in that war, and that is a part of your family's history. Maybe when you are learning about the war that your grandparents were in, you see a mention of a squad or platoon that your grandparents were stationed in. I think we should be learning about wars and different forms of government. Mostly I think we should be learning about early civilization and the impacts it has today. Learning about early civilizations is also important because if you look at the framers of the constitution, they were looking back at early civilizations and Britain, to see what didn’t work for them and improve it for their country. A quote that I found resonated with me the most was, “ History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” I think that the author was mainly trying to get out that even though history can sometimes be painful, if we face our past and clearly know what we did wrong, we won’t have to live through it again because it will be easier to prevent. This quote connects to history because if you look at America's past of slavery and segregation, it gets really dark, sad, and unfair for African Americans. So now the government knows our past, but instead is looking to the future to see what we can improve so the racism in our past can never be repeated. This resonates with me because if I know my past, I can see the ways that I can improve my future. Say I make a mistake that affects another person in a bad way, if I reflect on that and face the fact that what I did was wrong, I will be able to do better for future times. I think this quote connects to people globally because all around the world we have seen development from the past. Some places in the world still need to learn and take this quote into consideration though. For example, when we look at the war in Gaza and the fight over land, hopefully when this whole conflict has resonated, the people in that area will learn that they will want to prevent something like this from ever happening again. They might also learn how to work together and find a way to split the land instead of having a fight to control it all.

I think it is important to study history because history is our world’s past. If we didn’t study history, we wouldn’t know why we are here right now with all the opportunities we have. Also, we would be confused about everything and have so many questions. For example, if we didn’t know about why our country is the United States, we wouldn’t be able to really appreciate our founders for fighting in the Revolutionary War for our country’s independence. Also, it is really important to know our world’s mistakes and accomplishments. When we know our mistakes, we are able to learn from them and not do the same thing in the future. Lastly, knowing our accomplishments can help us reflect on them and later do something similar to try and keep up the good work.

A historical topic I think is more important than others (in the United States) is the Revolutionary War. This is because this war was fought so the United States could earn its independence from Great Britain when they were ruling the colonists at that time. The American Revolution’s outcome resulted in what our country is today. For example, once the colonists won the war and Great Britain was no longer ruling the Americans, the United States had to establish a government that fit the young country. That government they established right then was the same one our country, the United States has today called the Constitution.

Historical topics I think should be required to learn about are the Atlantic Slave Trade and the African's experience on the Middle Passage. This is because this process wasn’t only including the United States, but also Africa, Great Britain, and many more European countries. At this time - in history owning someone was the norm, and not talked badly about enough. The transportation of these many slaves was inhumane given the fact they were living in awful conditions where many of them passed away in the process. I believe it was one of our country's worst decisions. I think it is important to learn about harsh topics like this to educate the world that no individual is above or below another. So, owning a human being is not okay and beyond insane.

The quote I chose was “History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again." The author meant by this quote that our history, if we like it or not, was our past mistakes. However, if we are able to live past our mistakes and not repeat history, we would be able to fix our past mistakes. This quote connects to the importance of studying and learning history because it mentions that we have to face our history with courage. So, if we learn and educate ourselves on our history, we would be able to build courage and face it to help us not make the same mistakes. Specific examples from history I can think of is the Holocaust. This was an extremely horrfic event that took the lives of millions of Jews. We have to educate ourselves on this event to show remorse to these people. Also, the people who did this are our ancestors. Now, we are able to pick out how awful this was to avoid anything like this happening again. This quote resonates with me because it aligns with my own personal beliefs. Although some of our history is very dark, we have to accept that and work past it to help the sake of our world. We come from our history so we are able to change how our own future may look like by looking at our own actions to prevent something crazy happening - like a holocaust. This quote can be applied to today’s world by educating ourselves on history. If we take time and get to know everything major that happened in our history, we would be able to help shape our future that would be much more successful and appropriate than our history - besides its accomplishments.

Because we learn about how we came to our society today. This is important because we learn about great historical figures, who did great things such as George Washington, or Benjamin Franklin. If we can take inspiration, we can try to be like them. Also, we can learn about many interesting things such as how our governments were created, which can be helpful to understand politics.

Maybe the ones that are specifically for us, Such as US history.

I think there should be some, such as learning how our government was created. This is because many people don’t know how our government works, and learning how it was created can help us understand our own government and our rights, which could be helpful later in life.

In this quote, I think that the author meant that even though there has been huge pain in history, if we learn from our mistakes with courage, they do not have to happen again. For example, in world war II, one man had way too much power, and other countries did not react in time to stop him. If we learn from our mistakes, we can never let something like that happen again. Even if it can be painful to remember all the horrible moments in our history, if we learn from our mistakes, then we can prevent them from happening again. This quote is important when studying and learning history because when learning about history it is important to remember how people lived their life back then. For example, people in the 1700s and before did not eat with much sanitary like we do today. Maybe that is why people back then lived shorter lives than today. But if we learn from out mistakes, we can eat more cleanly and as a result live longer. This quote resonates with me personally because I believe that everyone makes mistakes, but the important thing is to not do them again and learn from them. I also believe that humans were born to do this. For example, if a Baby went near a wild animal and got scratched, it would probably not go near it and do it again. This is the same for all humans, we learn from our mistakes and don’t let it happen again. Hopefully we can continue this trend as a whole planet, and don’t let terrible things happen from our past again.

Quote: History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if face with courage, need not to be lived again.

It is essential to study history for many reasons. One reason we need to study history is because in history many people have made mistakes, we should study these mistakes so that we can not make these mistakes in the future. Another reason we need to study history is because when we study what went well in history we can know what might work and what has worked in the past that will work in the future. The last reason we need to study history is that when we study the history of your culture you can learn about who you are and who your ancestors were which can be important to discovering who you are. I think that there are a small number of historical events that are more important than others. I think that the first event is the American Revolution, I think this because when most revolutions happen there is a power grab by someone but in the American Revolution this did not happen. People need to study it so that if their country has a revolution they know how to get the revolution to work and create a working country. The last thing that I think is important to study over everything else is the past civilizations that have worked well. Some examples are the Greek and Roman empires. These two empires both work well and by studying them we can learn what made them great and apply that to our civilization. I think that there are historical topics that should be required in school. The first topic that should be mandated all around the world is the history of your country and the culture that comes along with it. The second topic that I think all schools should be forced to study is slavery. I think we need to do this to understand racism and how we can make our world a racism and racial prejudice-free place. My quote was “History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if we face it with courage, it need not be lived again” - Maya Angelou. I think that the author meant that what has happened in history cannot be changed but if we learn from the terrible events in history we do not have to live through these horrible events again. I think that this quote does connect because studying history is all about learning what didn’t work so that we don’t make the same mistake and this quote is saying the same thing. A specific example from history is slavery. Slavery was very terrible and because we learn about it we can learn what motivated people to do this and why there is still racial prejudice. Learning about this can make sure that slavery never happens again in the future. This quote resonates with me because I think learning from mistakes is very important and we need to learn from these mistakes so that it never happens again. This quote can be applied to today because many mistakes are being made right now and we can learn from these and fix them.

It’s important to study history because we want to be aware of what happened prior to the things that are present now. There are many events that have happened in order for us to have the liberty we need. For example, the American Revolutionary War where many people sacrificed their lives to fight for future citizen’s rights. I think there are certain historical events that are more important than others. Such as the creation of the Constitution, our government, etc. These are what runs our country and it should be learnt. If we don’t understand this stuff we won’t be able to participate in democracy. I think it should be required to learn about the law and how our government came to be. I think that it’s important if we, the people, are able to obey the Constitution and give support to our country by following the laws. In order to do that, we need to understand the government in general. The quote I chose was, “We are not makers of history. We are made of history.” by Martin Luther King Jr. I think the author meant that we didn’t create history and that history was created by the past. Instead, we are in a way built from history. We don’t get to change history. This quote connects to the importance of studying and learning history. This quote shows that history made us and so it’s important to understand our origins. For example, our bill of rights was created by past people. The bill of rights has helped us gain extra protection in liberty. Therefore, it’s important to make sure we know the people who created these bills and appreciate what they have done. I think this quote is completely valid. We aren’t able to control history because it has already been done. Therefore, it’s true that we live off of history, and despite some past events that may not be great, there are also many events that have helped the present now and could even continue to help the future generations. Overall, this quote can assist us to remember that most of the things we have now have gone through many sacrifices. This can go to even smaller cases. For example, if you exercise at a consistent pace, you’re going to be healthy in the future. This shows that the actions we’ve done in the past have created the person we are now.

I believe that it is important to study history because it shows you everything about the world. Like the geography and the way the government works. Knowing how the government works is one of the most important topics you can study. Geography is the study of the world. It is so important because you need to know where each state is as a U.S. citizen, in my opinion. You need to know how the trade in the sea works and how we connect to other countries. I think that the American Revolution and the creation of the Constitution are more important than others because they created the country we live in today. Yes I believe there are certain topics that you need to study. I believe you need to study American history and geography before you go off to the real world, they should be mandatory classes. You should do these because they help you understand the U.S. history and the world. In the quote,“We are not makers of history We are made History.” By Martin Luther King Jr. It shows that he was talking about the fact that we just live in this country; we were not the founding fathers. We did not fight in the wars to create this country. We also did not create any problems with history, we are just in it. This quote can connect by its meaning. It means that we are not the history to create this country, we are just the people living in the future of it. It shows the importance by telling us the fact that we are in history not making it. This quote resonates with me because it shows how the world was created and how our founding fathers fought for this country just so we could have a happy life under a democratic republic government. This quote can be applied to today’s world by showing the fact that our country is very successful and our founding fathers and every person that fought in the wars causing us to have a country was very successful. And they all caused a great country that millions of people love. These words can be applied to today by showing our country who we are and what it has become.

History shows us what has happened in the past. It shows the good and the bad historical events. It also teaches people what should not happen again in the future like it happened in the past. History is also important because you can learn more about what and where your country came from. You can find out more about how your country because what they are today. There is also so much more that you can find out about using history. Some historical events are just not important because nothing has been shown of them and nothing has been won. Some historical events have had a large impact on what is happening in the world and what has happened in the world. I think some topics that should be covered are WWII, Slavery. These things in the world are bad and should be taught so they don't happen again. These things are cruel and should never happen again. Some topics are covered that aren't as important. Some events that are not as important are small wars that happen between states and our smaller countries in history.

Quote: He who controls the past

Controls the future

He who controls the present

Controls the past

-George Orwell

I think the author meant that the past controls what is happening in the future. After all, that has already happened in the past. It also shows what not to replicate. It also can be applied to why history class is important because it shows that what you are learning is helping you know what is right and what is wrong.

Overall History is very important to learn and it can show you much more about what has happened in the history of the world.

I think it is important to study history to know about our past and how things came to be. It helps us understand our government. Learning about history can also help you defend your rights. Additionally, we can learn from past mistakes and not make them again. If we didn’t study history, we’d be stuck in a cycle of the same mistakes. I think that learning about the Constitution and Bill of Rights are some of the most important parts because they help you defend your rights. You would know that you have the right to remain silent, have a lawyer, and have free speech that no one can restrict. Additionally, I think it’s important to learn about the American Revolution because we should know how our country was formed. I think we should definitely learn about our rights, the Constitution, and the American Revolution. But I also think we should learn more about world history. Just because we live in the US doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be educated about other countries’ history. It might help us to have a better understanding of history in general. Also, it will help us to have a more open mind about other areas of the world. I feel like there are a lot of stereotypes about other countries, so maybe learning about their history would make us understand them better. The quote I chose was: “History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” - Maya Angelou. I think the author meant that we have to be willing to look at all parts of history, the good and the bad, so we can avoid the same mistakes. The quote is saying that studying history is important because we want to improve ourselves as a country, so we should learn about the past to continue improving our country and ourselves as an individual. This quote resonates with me because sometimes we just look at the good parts of history, like when we won the American Revolution. But we don’t think about all the bad things too, like slavery. I think it’s important not just to avoid parts of history just because they’re uncomfortable. This quote can be applied by being willing to learn about the whole of history, not just the good parts. Only then can we truly make a difference through studying history.

I think that it’s important to study history because you should know about the things that happened in the past to get a better understanding of how something happened and the result of that happening. Learning about history is also very important because we can learn from history and strive to be better this generation, we can not make the same mistakes that have already been made and we can continue to improve. On top of that, history is also really interesting to learn once you start understanding it. I believe that although all pieces of history are important and should be learned, there are historical events that are slightly more important than others and it all depends on what happened as a result of that event. I don’t have an important event in mind but it’d be something that caused an impact and affected many people, one that’s either positive or negative. An important event would be something that stands out from the others because it’s unique in one way or another. I think that there are certain historical topics that we should be required to learn in school. I think that the American Revolution and topics before and after are really important topics because it relates back to how everything began. America is a fairly new country compared to European ones like Great Britain and France. I think that the story of our victory is one worth noting. The creation of the Constitution is also very important because that explains why the Constitution was created. The quote I chose was “History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage need not be lived again.” -Maya Angelou. I think the author means that you can’t undo history, but you can make sure it doesn’t happen again. This quote connects with the importance of learning history because you should still know what happened in the past to prevent history from repeating itself. I really like this quote because it’s stating the facts, there’s been bad things in history, but once it’s happened, there’s nothing we can do about it, we can only move forward and become stronger with what’s happened. This quote relates to today’s world because it’s kinda telling you to move on and not be scared of something that’s already happened once.

We study history to learn from past experiences so that we are able to use that knowledge to make a better world. Learning about wars and different governments other civilizations have experienced allows us to figure out better what kind of country we want to live in. If we don't study history, every generation will start from square one in learning how to exist in our society instead of building off what history shows them. I think all parts of history are important, but I believe learning about different governments, specifically the big successful societies and the big unsuccessful societies is most important. This is because it shows us what works and what doesn't. Additionally, students should be required to learn about the American Revolution because it was a huge moment in history that inspired a lot of other revolutions and was the first successful self-run government. The quote about history I chose was "He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past." by George Orwell. I think Orwell meant that learning about history and past societies helps you understand what kind of future you want to be in, and whoever is in power can dictate what parts of the past people are allowed to see. Also, this quote shows how much power learning history can give a person. An example is how Thomas Jefferson learned about the philosopher John Locke and the Ancient Greek government and applied those ideas to create the basis of our government. This quote resonates with me because it shows how dangerous concealing or ignoring history is and I have read a lot of books with the same idea, like Words on Fire by Jennifer Neilson and Animal Farm by George Orwell. This quote can be applied to today's world because It can influence people to look at history and protect it in order to change our world for the better. Ultimately, History is a powerful tool to understand our world and make it better for future generations.

I believe it is important to study history because history teaches us things that nobody could teach us today. It teaches us to understand how many things work today, to not make the same mistakes that others have made before us, and how far we have come. I think history is such an important part of our lives because we are only here thanks to the people who made that possible. I also think that we are a part of history right now and at one point people will study influential people in our time period and that makes it even more important to understand what led up to now. I think that American History and World History are the most/important things to learn about. I think it’s very important to learn about your own country because that is such a huge part of one's identity. World history is also so important because that helps us understand what it was and is like in other parts of the world. We would not be fully educated if we only knew the history of our country because they all intertwine and cross paths. I think that there are many events in history that are more important to learn. I think that world history (WWI and WWII, early empires and reigns, etc.) and American history (what we learned this year, the civil rights movement, women's rights movement) should definitely be taught. I think that because these are such influential parts of history but also defines who we are today and what our world is like today. The quote I chose was “A person without the knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots.” - Marcus Garvey. I think that the author meant that someone who doesn’t know their own heritage, culture, origin, etc is someone who isn’t connected to who they are and why they are here. This quote also definitely connects to the importance of history because it shows that we must know our past to be the best we can in the future. If the president and other members of government decided they wanted the U.S. to go back to the AOC without studying the past the whole country would fall apart. History teaches us things that nobody could ever teach us today. I think it is so important to know where you come from and who paved the way for you to be the best you can and to be connected with how far we have come. This quote can be applied to today's world because if we took a second to look back on how far we’ve come we could definitely untie more and be less divided.

I think it is important to study history because it helps us learn from the past. It is important not to repeat history, especially the negative and violent aspects. It also helps us know what is right or wrong. There is no need to make so many mistakes if they have already been made and learned from. If we study history, we can know about these wrongdoings and prevent future ones. I think historical topics like equality and discrimination, along with wars, slavery, and conflicts should be studied more in depth than others. This is because these are the moments in history we do not want to go back to. I think everyone needs to be educated about the events that preceded us, whether good or bad, and what caused them. In my opinion, some more general historical topics should be the main focus of the school curriculum. These could include wars or movements in the past, along with modern-day applicable topics such as Supreme Court cases, amendments, and the election process. These would be more necessary to learn rather than something like memorizing all of the colonies and their founders. However, I think all the topics should be taught in some way or another, because different topics are more important to different audiences who have varying thoughts and values. I chose the quote, “History is important. Without history it’s as if you were born yesterday. And if you were born yesterday, anybody up there in a position of power can tell you anything, and you have no way of checking up on it.” This quote was from Howard Zinn, and I thought the author meant that without knowing history, there is no way to disprove anyone. The government or authority figures can tell you anything and you are more susceptible to believing them. Knowing history can give you insight into how the government works today, and how it has changed from before. Going back to the past can help us advance to the future. This quote also connects to the importance of studying history because it shows how it is essential to function properly in the “real world”. Even though many students think they will not use topics learned in school in real life, history can include several aspects that can be applied to life outside of school. An example is the Constitution - or more specifically, the amendments. The Miranda rights are something that is crucial for someone to know in case of an arrest or confrontation with a police officer. The title of these rights stem from the Supreme Court case Miranda v. Arizona. By learning history, someone could become more familiarized with the rights they have and be able to defend themselves against the law. Personally, this quote resonates with me personally because it reminded me that knowing history can help me defend myself and it reminded me of the rights I have. It also reminded me that knowing history is a way of remaining true to your ideas and opinions when the world tries to sway you. For example, if someone is well versed in a specific historical topic, they can hold their opinion even if the world denies what happened. I think this quote can be applied to today’s world through more modern areas of history. The word history gives the feeling that it was all in the past - but many past events can affect us today. Knowing about the Articles of Confederation, for example, can help us understand our own government better. Learning about specific Supreme Court cases helps us understand our rights. These lessons and stories told by our history, and the history of the world, will ultimately be what we take with us moving forward.

I think it is important to study history since it is important to understand past events and how they have affected the future. It is also important to study history because it is important to not make the same mistakes that have drastically affected the past negatively. I think that it's important to learn about the history of your country. In America, a priority should be to teach about American history since it gives a better understanding of how events in the past made things the way they are today. . I think that it should be required to learn about our government, the voting process, civic responsibilities, etc. This is because once students become adults they have to make choices and decisions on their own and when voting, we need voters to be educated so they can make educated decisions in our government. The quote I chose was, “A people without the knowledge of their history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots. I think he meant that someone who doesn't know their history or where they are from is not going to be successful since a tree without its roots is dead and unable to grow fruits or branches. This quote shows that it's important to study history because if you don't you are unlikely to be successful or qualify for certain jobs related to history or that require some sort of understanding of history. It can be applied since it's become more common for people to ignore their origins and history. Understanding your history and origin helps you understand your identity and who you are.

I think that it is important to study history because we can learn from our past mistakes to make the world a better place. When we read about past wars, treaties, and economic events we can learn what we did wrong, to improve what we are doing today. I think that some historical topics, events, and subjects are more important to learn than others. Big events like the American Revolution or any of the World Wars are really important. They helped to shape each country's reputation, allies, and governments. We need to learn about them to better understand how society around the world works. We don't need to learn smaller topics as much. For example, not everyone needs to learn about how a not very well-known country had a new law passed. I think that there are some certain historical topics that students should be required to learn in school. I think that events like the World War I, World War II, the Civil War, and the American Revolution should be taught in school. Kids are the future of our world so they need to be educated on what has happened in the past. They also need to learn lessons that historical events have taught us. For example, learning about the Civil War can teach us about slavery and inequality. Slavery has been a huge part of our history so we need to learn about it; why it started, how it affected so many people, and how we stopped it so it won't happen again. In addition, I have heard that Germany has a 24-hour TV channel about the holocaust. They play it to teach their citizens about the event to learn about the injustices happening at that time. By teaching people at school about events like this, we can help people learn how not to repeat it. Also, events like revolutions can teach people about how their governments work. They can learn their rights, how their rights are important, and how they can help you live your life. My quote was We are not makers of history, we are made of history. I think that Martin Luther King Jr. meant that history has shaped us into the people we are today. Without history, we wouldn't know how to run a government, solve conflicts, create allies, or create treaties. We do not choose how history has played out, we choose how we will live based on the history of our past. This quote connects to the importance of studying history because it talks about how history makes us. When we study history, we learn how to be better people and how to improve ourselves. This quote resonates with me because I think that it is really important to acknowledge that we are who we are because of our ancestors and our past. Our government and society work so well because of the choices that we have made in the past. This quote can be applied to today's world because it can teach people that it is important to always learn from our past mistakes and how to better ourselves from it.

Learning about our past is very important. We as a society need to know what we have done in the past, the negatives and positives. There are many reasons why we need to know our past, but most importantly it is so we do not repeat bad things that have happened in the past. For example, racism and Britain having control over us are both negative aspects of our past. We now know how to not let that happen again and the impact it would have on us. History is overall very significant to our lives now and if no one took the time to learn about our history, our society would be destroyed. I believe that some things that happened are much more significant than others and should be focused on learning more than other topics. Some wars were fought for a much more important reason than others. Without the revolutionary war, we might still be under British tyranny. That war is one of the most important wars because it determines where we are now and our freedom and independence. Things smaller that fight for less necessary or important things don’t need to be taught as much. All of our past is important and we should know all of it, but there are subjects that need more attention and have made more of an impact than others. I think that the War of independence, and overall all British control should be taught in school. People need to know how our country developed and who fought for our country. They need to realize how they are where they are today and how lucky we are to have our freedom. We should be thankful of why we are here and realize that it wasn’t always like this and people from the past sacrificed a lot for us to be here how we are today. “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.”, I think what the author meant was that we are made up of history and without our past we wouldn't be who we are, where we are today. This relates to the importance because this quote is expressing that without knowing our history we aren’t made up of anything, we don’t have roots. Without the war for independence, we wouldn’t be where we are today and have freedom and be independent. This resonated with me because I found it very crazy how without our past we would be nothing and we wouldn’t have where we are today, we need knowledge to be able to realize how we are here and what we are made up of. This quote can be applied today in the world by learning our past because it is what we are made up of. We should know what has happened before us and how we got to this point. Our past is incredibly significant to our future and we should value and take the time to learn about how everything has happened.

I think it is important to study history because if people aren’t educated about it it can repeat itself. I also feel that learning about how something came to be is really important because it makes you more aware and grateful for what you have. In my opinion, some topics are more important than others to learn about. I think learning about the history of how, whatever country you live in, the government came to be is very important. I also feel that learning about American history is very important because you can see how one different choice could have impacted the country greatly. I think learning about the government and the rules, laws, and duties of the citizens is very important. I also feel learning about your country’s economy is crucial to know and makes you more aware. I feel the biggest thing that needs to be taught about is current events. So many people are in the dark about events that are happening NOW and they should be educated. The quote I chose was “History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again”.I think the author meant that even though history can be really painful to learn about it is crucial to learn about so we will not have to relive it again. I think this quote is further saying that we have to face and look at our history or else it will be destined to repeat itself. Learning about it shows you the outcome of their choices, some were good and some were bad but shows you not to repeat it. This quote really resonates with me because we each individually have our own history and even though we can’t unlive it we can learn from our own mistakes so we don’t have to feel that pain again.I think this quote is a message to many saying that if you don’t face the world, and your own personal history then you are not learning and growing as a person. I think when you learn from your or others' mistakes you become a better more well-rounded person.

If we want to improve something, we’ll need something to reference back to. To prevent history from repeating itself, we need to know what the history is first, so we don’t make the same mistakes. To know whether-or-not our clothes are proper, we have to look in a mirror. I also think that learning about our roots and our origins are really important to understand who we are now. Why are we here? Why do we do what we do? How did the past influence us? Every little thing that happened in the past has affected us in some way or another, even from the smallest thing like planting a tree or to something as big as a revolutionary war. There are definitely topics or events that may be more relevant to learn about in the life we live now, like say, past presidential elections, but even ancient historical topics like Hammurabi’s Code or the Egyptian pyramids have some sort of connection to us in some way. There are some topics that should be required to learn in school, like I think maybe slavery, past issues on racism, women's rights, and stuff like that which impacts us now. Definitely the American Revolution. We wouldn’t be America without it. And maybe things that have to do with developing civilizations? George Orwells’ quote, “He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past”, resonated with me a lot. I think he means that if you know the past, you can change how you want the future to look like. And if you know what’s present, you can see the past. Studying and learning history helps us learn about the past. Students now at least know the basic history of the world, and sometimes I hear kids going, “HA! I can’t believe people back then did that. We would never.” At least now they know how to improve. XD Personally, I think this quote was really clear. And it’s what my parents have told me often. To have knowledge on the past and present is a powerful thing. You’re not only here now, but you know what went down back then to make changes in the future. I think people are taking more care in learning about history. It’s a good thing to let kids and students know past events so they can make opinions while they’re still young.

We need to know how government works and the effort it took to make United states a free country. America would not be as great as it is now if it weren't for all of the historical ups and downs it took to get here. The patriots fought for independence in many battles that killed numerous soilders. Living in America requires being informed on the American history that happened on the same ground we walk on. I think that talking about government and political parties are very important because us middle schoolers are going to need to figure out what we want to be when we grow up and where we stand in government. It is important to know your rights and what being a citizen means. One example is, if ever stuck in court, you have the right to a grand jury and a public/speedy trial. I think talking about the constitution and the bill of rights should be required to learn about in school because they tell students their basic rights and freedoms. As citizens of America, it is important to understand our responsibilities and duties. Being a citizen means being informed, paying taxes and voting for representatives. We need to participate as much as we can because there is a lot that America has been through before us, and we need to honor those who sacrificed. I chose the quote “ a people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots,” because it resonates with me. The author is saying that uneducated people are unaware of where they came from and how they got to where they are currently. This quote connects to the importance of history because a lot of people that live in America might not be familiar with the American revolution and they could have no idea how much effort and hard work the patriots before us had to go through. This quote resonates with me because I am currently learning about the history of America and I am not nearly done. It is fascinating to hear about what America was like thousands of years ago. This quote applies to today's world because some citizens don't bother learning about American history. People in society are not appreciative of the men and women before us that struggled to make America great.

Historical studies is an integral part of the education system. One reason is that if we don’t learn history (international history and more specific histories) people will end up in a tyrannical government. One thing that I have been told is that those who do not know of the past will get the past repeated. This is true, because those who do not learn history will not understand the consequences of the actions that happen in the past, so actions with negative consequences may be repeated and those with positive consequences may not be repeated. I think that it is integral to learn about some disastrous and majorly successful things in history, such as learning about the Holocaust, the US Mexican war (the war between the US and México), and slavery, among many other things. I think that there are some historical topics that people should learn about in school. For example, the holocaust is an important historical event that people should learn about so that people can understand things such as why Adolf is seen as a bad person, and also to understand why what they did is unacceptable. I think that there are some historical topics that people should learn about in school. The quote I chose was “History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again” — Maya Angelou. I think that the author means that we don’t need to live history again if we face it. This connects to the importance of learning about history because when people understand history it makes it easier to face it. For example, since the holocaust, there hasn’t been an instance that is similar that is well known because many people know about it. I think this quote resonates with me because I think that the future can be influenced positively by history if we know about history. I think this quote can be applied to today’s world by people learning about history.

I think that it's important to study history because of how often it tends to repeat itself over time; especially the bad parts. For example, there have been wars between the same two groups of people all over the world and the cause is almost always similar- it's just that those issues never get fully resolved and repeat themselves. By educating ourselves on the importance of history and all of its positives and negatives, we can protect our present and future selves and learn from our past mistakes as a species. Also, the accomplishments of our ancestors or predecessors weren't done for nothing, and they often deserve to be remembered and valued as lessons and advice. And yes, in my opinion, there are historical topics, events, and subjects that are more important than others to teach to students throughout their limited time in school. Humans have been around for such a long time, and they have tracked their pasts through several different ways, including stories (oral history), carvings, drawings, and scrolls. It is impossible to learn everything in the approximately 8 year time frame that we learn about history in school. So, the historical topics that I feel are more important are significant wars that instigate a lot of change in a nation or a people, the customs of peoples of different cultures, and the ways that humans interacted with one another and organized civilizations with limited resources. I also firmly believe that there are certain historical topics that should be a required to learn in school, such as ancient history and the basics of every major civilization including Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome (among others), and the history of the major empires of the 14-1800s like England, France, and Spain. I also think that the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, and Civil War should be learned about too because of how they impacted America and its citizens. Without these wars, many of us would not be where we are today. I also think that learning about Supreme court cases and the bill of rights helps protect individual rights and can be very useful especially as we grow into adulthood. Additionally, I believe that it is absolutely necessary to learn about the world wars, but not just the American perspective. Instead, I think students should learn about the perspectives of every country that participated. And lastly, primary and secondary source analysis should be continued to be taught because those skills come in useful in many different careers and paths. A quote that I find important to my opinion on learning history goes as follows: "We are not makers of history. We are made of history." These wise words were said by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a prominent activist for civil rights. I think the author meant that we cannot control the past and yet the past controls us. Everything in place at this very moment was meticulously set up by people hundreds, maybe even thousands of years ago. This quote connects to the importance of studying and learning history because once again, mistakes cannot be erased, but they can be prevented to some extent. For instance, the Battle of New Orleans could not have been prevented because news couldn't travel fast enough, but now, with modern technology, it would be possible to have prevented those deaths of British soldiers at the hands of Andrew Jackson if the battle took place in the present day. In addition, these words resonate with me personally because I respect Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. immensely, and his life accomplishments and character are unmatched, and I stand by the belief that it is our responsibility and power to shape the future using our past mistakes. This quote can be applied to today's world in a number of ways. One of such ways is with all of the civil wars going on, it is important to try and minimize the amounts of casualties, even if that seems impossible with all of the violence and fighting. We can learn about past civil wars and their causes and effects to handle conflicts in ways that will end as soon as possible.

I think studying history is very important. Studying history is important because we get to learn about all of the different struggles and challenges that our elders had to overcome. Also studying history can show people the harsh realities of war and what society is really like. Our elders have faced many different challenges and it is important to honor every single sacrifice that they have made for us. For example in the American revolution there were many soldiers I bet that didn't want to fight but they did. They did for the country and the rights they believed in. Also my grandmother was telling me about her friend that was doing everything he could not to get sent to vietnam. She said something about him joining a different organization when he was about to be picked. But eventually he was picked to go to vietnam and he sacrificed many things. Almost his own life. Studying history is important because we need to remember the sacrifices and challenges that our ancestors overcame.Yes, there are many different historical topics and events that are more important than each other. For example when we are thinking about wars and battle we have been learning about this year the revolutionary war really stands out. Also we learned about the war of 1812. But the most important here is the revolutionary war. I mean the revolutionary war was what we fought to become a country. The war of 1812 was being fought over trade and the impressment that the British were having on us. Without the revolutionary war there is no possible way the war of 1812 could have even happened. So in the end yes, I do think that their are some historical events and topics that are more important then others. Yes, I think there are definitely a few history topics that should be required to learn in school. First I think all American kids should learn about the revolutionary war and the struggles it brought to our country. Also the revolutionary war was how America was built on just pure grit. Also I think that students should be required to learn about the early settlers that came to America. For example the settlers in Jamestown and the Pilgrims. When students especially now learn about these events they can see how hard life really was and how great we have it now. Also I think that students should have to learn about different presidencies and whose presidencies were good and whose were bad. Also why their presidencies are considered bad and why they are considered good. In the end I think that their should be a few required historical topics that you need to learn in school. Quote:”He who controls the past controls the future, He who controls the present controls the path”. I think what the author meant by this quote is that only you can control your life. For example if you can control yourself and what you do you can guide yourself down a good path. And the one who can control the path and what they do in different situations/scenarios can control their future and their destiny.I think this quote connects to different sacrifices important people made for the general society. For example all the soldiers that fought in the different wars controlled America's future and the path we took to get where we are today. This quote relates to me personally because I am trying to create my own path. And eventually have a great life. This quote can be applied to today's world because we can create our own future and our own destiny. And we are all responsible for this.

I think that history is one of the most important things we can learn because it helps us get a taste of the successes and downfalls of past generations. If we didn’t keep track of the past, there would be so many more mistakes people would have made since they didn’t have the ability to see the outcomes of choices made during similar events before their time. Those mistakes could cause wars that cost millions of lives or economic depressions that force families into a life of poverty and suffering. Through the lens of history we can also gain appreciation for the past and the pain that communities had to endure in order to get to the places where they are today. The most important historical events, in my opinion, are the beginnings. When anything begins, something must have incited it to do so, and based on the outcomes of that action, we can gauge what and what not to do in the future when posed with a similar scenario. These chains of cause and effect are important so we have an understanding for how one small action can have much bigger consequences. They show the troubles that come with greed and arrogance instead of just telling us that they are bad. Ideas like that should be the ones taught in school, so the new phase of humans can make this planet even better. Maya Angelou, a female activist, once said that “History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” I think that Angelou meant that we can't ever change the past, no matter how much it hurts us, but we can remember it and make sure that we don’t ever let that pain happen again in the present. Throughout history, many people had to face oppression in silence, but once revolution strikes somewhere in the past, people will make change. I think that it's really meaningful and it truly sums up why learning about history is important. Our world, though not the best it could be, is better because people take this idea to mind.

Studying history is essential for our present and our future. The past gives us context about why we are where we are and why we do what we do. History can tell us how to avoid past mistakes, as well as how to replicate past success. History is not only interesting, but it is vital to the way that we live our lives today, and how we will improve our lives tomorrow. Some historical topics are more important than others because they shape the way that the world is today. Some events are more relevant to certain areas than others, so these events may be more important there, although all events, no matter how small they seem, have an impact on the world. This means in school we should learn about recent conflicts such as wars like Vietnam, Korea, and Iraq. This would enlighten us about why the world works the way it does, and how those recent events affect it. It is crucial to learn about our more distant past, the Revolutionary war, but we learned about it for three years in elementary school and again in eighth grade, so it could be taught earlier on. This way we would have a better understanding of the rest of our history while we learn about it. When explaining the importance of history, Howard Zinn stated, “History is important. If you don't know history it’s as if you were born yesterday. And if you were born yesterday, andybody up there in a position of power can tell you anything, and you have no way of checking up on it.” Having knowledge about our history solidifies our beliefs and opinions, and those ideas and ideals are not likely to be dictated by others regardless of their intentions. If we have firm beliefs that we can back by historical knowledge, we can establish opinions, no matter how recent or well known the history is. One way that this applies to the world currently is by understanding the history of Israel and Palestine before letting political parties dictate your opinion. This quote is important to me because it reminds me to stay neutral on topics regardless of the opinions of my family and friends until I gather all of the facts surrounding the event. I do not want to jump to conclusions to seek approval of others, no matter who they are. This quote teaches us that we should understand facts about conflicts before we come to conclusions about them. We must form our own opinions based on unbiased accounts of events before we hear political, strong-leaning opinions.

History is the study of the past. So when we ask this question, we are asking ourselves the importance of the past. The past his created the present we live in, so it is very important to understand. It is important to know the mistakes and successes of the past. The past can be like a guidebook. We can look at the things our ancestors did and the effects they caused. We can use the results of this research to guide our actions and learn what has worked well in the past and what has not.

I think that you can learn lessons from any area in history, as in any area human choices have been made. This means that mistakes and successes have happened, which can be learned from and influence our actions today. However, I think that the further you go back, the less important things become. This is because those societies grow more and more different than our own, meaning that the decisions made are not as effective of a learning material.

For specific subjects of history we should learn, there are many varied interpretations. I think we should learn about American history. We need to know our country's system to understand how our democracy works. We also need to know its mistakes so we do not make them again. This learning will help guide us to be educated and strong citizens of our country in the future. But we cannot ignore world history. If we do not know the history of others, we are an ignorant country. To be a world citizen and to be a country with this much influence worldwide, we need to understand the pasts of our constituents. And, once again, these historical areas also contain humans who have made choices, meaning we can still learn from these mistakes and apply them to our choices and our country. History does not need to stem from our country to be applied to our lives or government.

I chose the quote He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past by George Orwell. What first popped out to me in this quote was the person’s name. George Orwell is well known for writing the book 1984. The book explores themes of totalitarianism and control of the narrative. The government in the book controls and rewrites history. This ties into the second part of the quote. If somebody has complete control of the present, they can make manipulate the population’s ideas of the past to their liking. This means that the population’s decisions will be influenced by this false past. The first part alludes to the dystopian nature of the book. He is giving us a warning that our actions are important, as they control what happens in the future, which will be somebody’s present. If we allow democracy to fail, and a totalitarian government to rise, they could erase the truth of the past and replace it with their own twisted version of it.

We need to learn from the past to safeguard our freedom and the freedom of generations ahead of us. If we look to the past, we can see how decisions made that have had a direct impact on our society. This reminds us that our decisions do matter, and we cannot lie idle if democracy fails. An example of how we learned from our past is that we realized that a too-weak government was ineffective. This led to the creation of our Constitution, which impacts us today.

This quote can be applied today in how we participate in our society. We need to have an active role in government, as we control the future with our decisions. If we fall asleep, we could fall into a situation where the past, what guides people, is transformed and mutated into a version that suits those who control it.

I think studying history is essential for ensuring that terrible mistakes that have happened in the past are not made again. If we do not learn about and educate ourselves on wars or unjust occurrences that we have seen take place, it is possible that the world will not recognize if the same thing is repeating. This means that leaders or people with a lot of influence could try to do things that take away the liberties and individual freedoms of citizens in ways that we know are wrong. To prevent this, everyone needs to stay informed on current and past news and constantly check to ensure that horrible historical events are not forgotten or repeated. For example, I think that certain events are more important than others, mostly those that have had the greatest impact on our world. For example, things like slavery, the mistreatment of those in the LGBTQ+ community, or the Holocaust are events that treated people like less than what they are just because of who they are in ways they cannot change. These memories are what we need to watch out for to make sure we are not doing a similar thing to another group of people without realizing the terrible thing we are doing. Similarly to the above, I think the topics that have affected communities or minorities the most are the ones that need to be talked about. This is to make sure that the children learning about what has happened in the past are taught the right things and are not withheld information that could drastically change the way they view the world and the minorities that may have been hurt from events in the past. Some of these topics are slavery, women’s rights, ill-treatment of people in the LGBTQ+ community, and other ways that people have been unfairly treated because of their ethnicity or another part of their identity. A quote representing the importance of history is: “History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, it need not be lived again.” ( Maya Angelou). I think that what Maya Angelou meant by this quote is that although history can be difficult and traumatic to learn and think about and it can be easier to just ignore it, people must be brave enough to meet the consequences of history to prevent it from hopefully ever happening again. Without the knowledge of what happened in the past, it is impossible to know what should be avoided or what to be wary of in the future. This quote connects greatly to the importance of studying and learning history because it provides a definite reason as to why learning history is vital to the continued development of our world. It shows how terrible things have been done in the past and for those to never be repeated, people need to recognize them and define why they were so bad and why they can never happen again. This quote resonates with me because I think that its message and the way it is stated gives the words a lot of power. When I read it, it moved me because of how truthful it is and how it is the reason why we study history in such simple terms. It can also be applied to today’s world because we can use its message and what it is trying to tell its readers to continue to try as hard as we can to prevent any more terrible events from happening that we have already seen the ending to. We know how bad wars and conflicts end up and how much is destroyed in the process so we need to work as hard as we can to keep peace until violence is necessary.

I believe it is important to study history because you have to know how your government works, and how it originated, to know why it is that way. By learning about the construction of our government, we can understand our individual rights now, and use them to our advantage in voting, and in times when we are stopped by a public official. Knowing history also helps in court. To know your amendment rights and what previous people have done in cases will let you know what to do when the time comes, and be able to win your case. In history, some topics are definitely more important than others. However, without certain events, others can't happen. For example, the Revolutionary War seems a lot more significant to our country than the French and Indian War, but with the French and Indian War the Revolutionary War wouldn't have happened. The Constitutional Convention is arguably the most important event in our country's history, but it wouldn't have happened without the Articles of Conferedation failing. I believe certain historical events should be taught in school because without them, we wouldn't know how our government functions, and what our individual liberties are. These include events such as the Constitutional Convention, the Revolutionary War, and the Civil War. It also includes topics such as Civics and the Bill of Rights. These all let us know how to be a responsible United States citizen, what we can do to be a positive force to our democracy, and overall benefit our society as a whole. Without learning these, we would have no idea how we came up to this point, and what is going on with our country. For example, let's say you want to go to Switzerland, you would want to know what is going on in the country before you go there. It's the same thing with living here. You don't want to just live in a place where you have no idea what the societal and politcal issues are, because then you could get yourself into unwanted trouble. The quote "A people without the knowledge of their past history is like a tree without its roots" by Marcus Garvey means you cannot possibly be beneficial to society if you don't know your history, just like a tree is not beneficial if it doesn't have roots. This is important to the studying of history because it shows the importance of knowing your past, and of staying informed. Without knowing your past, you can't be a positive force to the world. For example, without knowing the Bill of Rights, you wouldn't be able to fight for your own personal freedoms, and other people's personal freedoms, because you wouldn't know what personal freedoms are given to you from birth. This quote resonates with me because I really find it true. Every little bit of the past teaches you something about the present or the future, and every time you learn something new about the past, it's like completing one more piece of the life puzzle. Finally, this applies to everybody every day. Everyone should know their history, as it helps them in everyday situations like school or work, or even getting pulled over by the police. Your rights and responsibilities come into play everyday, and you must know what they are.

I think it’s important to study history because it allows us to understand how we got to where we are today. It recognizes the efforts of important people and groups that helped achieve this point. Also, studying history will inform us about the past mistakes people have made so we do not repeat them. Knowing our mistakes help our society and government grow and move forward. Some historical topics are more important than others. It is helpful to know which ones affected us more and put more importance on studying them. I think certain historical topics should be required to learn in school. The American Revolution, what led up to the war, and how the government developed. This is because the American Revolution and what led up to it shows how to overcome tyranny and make a change. It helps us understand how tyranny affects people. Learning about how the government is made also allows people to understand how it works and why it is important to take part in civic action. The quote I chose was “History is important. If you don’t know history, it’s as if you were born yesterday. And if you were born yesterday, anybody up there in a position of power can tell you anything, and you have no way of checking up on it.” by Howard Zinn. I think the author meant that you need to learn history because knowing it can protect you from being controlled and people with too much power. If you didn’t know history, you would not know when someone is abusing their power. This quote connects to historical events. An example is when Great Britain was taxing the American colonists. They were abusing their power because the colonists didn’t get a say in Parliament. This quote resonates with me because I think that it is important to stand up for your rights when a higher authority is abusing their power. This can be applied to the American government today. Not knowing how our government got to where it is, people could blindly follow unfair or unnecessary laws.

It is important to study history for many reasons. The first reason is that if you don’t know what was going on in the world before you if that conversation ever comes up you would be clueless. Another reason is that you just have a general understanding of what happened in the past so you could be aware of what people went through to lead to you being here. Lastly, you need to know about what goes on in your government so you know where you reside. Some historical events are more important than others. I think this depends on who you are and where you are from. For example, I think people who live in America should know about the Revolutionary War, etc as a war in Asia might be less relevant to them. Another example is that someone who lives in Africa doesn’t need to know about the American Revolution because it is not important to them. I think some topics should be required to be taught in school. I think topics that should be covered include the Early Colonies, the American Revolution, the Industrial Revolution, the Civil War, and WWII. I think those should be required to be taught in America because those are the major historical topics that took place in American history and shaped our country into the way it is today. The quote I chose was “We are not makers of history. We are made of History” by MLK Jr. He means that instead of thinking that what we do will be historical we should think about the historical things that shaped us. It also means that we need to appreciate what the people before us did more than we already do. I think this quote shows the importance of studying history by explaining how history shaped us. It also shows that you can’t make history without knowing history. It resonates with me because I always think about how different the world was centuries ago. An example of this quote is to think about what happened to someone else who did something before you did that thing.

We need to study history we can learn about the past and the mistakes and victories people made/had and how we can better ourselves and our future from them. By learning about these mistakes and successes, we see what worked and didn’t work, and we can use that to help find what works today. If we didn’t learn about history, we wouldn't have the knowledge of past generations, and all that information would be useless.

Yes, some topics are more important than others. Some topics in history can be much more important than others. For example, it would be more beneficial for students to learn about American history in the US than it would be to learn American history in Britain (although it does play a big role in Britain’s history). If we learned about all the topics, we would likely be overwhelmed with this information, but learning about too little history would cause us to be undereducated. We have to selectively pick and choose what History is the most important for us to learn (and this might be an issue in years to come). I think the most beneficial topics to learn about are ancient history and the history of the respective country. Ancient history allows us to learn about the original people of this land and helps up understand how much we’ve changed and learned over the thousands of years. History of one’s respective country allows for a larger sense of national pride and helps one understand one’s home. The only problem here is that we would have to define a line between ancient history and modern history and select what is part of a country’s history and what’s not (i.e. is the creation of America part of British history?).

Quote: “He who controls the past; controls the future. He who controls the present; controls the past.” -George Orwell

This quote talks about how the past influences the future, but the people of the present control what aspects of the past are passed down. If someone made a great speech, it would inspire the future and be known as the past. But the people present, who heard his speech, are the ones who decide wether to make that the past.

Studying and learning history is the present part of this quote. The teachers, and in some situations, the students, control what parts of the past get passed down to us. If a great German man made a quote that influenced the people of Germany, our (US) schools would determine whether to share that quote with us. Additionally, a student could decide to research Germany and might learn about this quote. They would be influenced by this quote, the past, and they, the future, would be changed. By researching Germany, the present, they ghost to allow the quote, the past, to influence them.

I like this quote because its very true, and, in a way, redundant. One who controls the future has no control over the future controlling their control. One tries to control the future, but then the future controls the present, and the present chooses wether to let the past influence it.

This quote shows us how we have to control what information we take in, as information from the past could drastically change today’s world.

I think it is important to study history because there are many different events to study and it is easy to get them mixed up. Also, studying more events can help us learn from the past and what mistakes people and other nations did that changed the outcome of history. So far, we have studied history from when the Native Americans were the only people here, up to the war of 1812 which is a huge amount of time. This makes it easy to confuse different historical events that we have studied over that time. I think that there are some historical topics that are more important than others. They might be more important because of the impact it had on civilization and a nation, or it could be more important because of what it did for the entire world. I believe that there are some important topics that we should have to learn in school. I think that some events that we should have to study include European nations expanding and taking native land, the Revolutionary War, the early nation and what the government was like, what the government is like now, and the impact that African Americans have had on the country. These are all important because they deal with how our nation was born, what our nation is like today, and it helps us understand what minority groups have been able to do and it helps us look at what happened to these minority groups. That a civilization that doesn't know about their past, can't improve themselves well and will keep making mistakes from their past. Also, a civilization without knowledge of their past has nothing to build off of and nothing to look at as inspiration. This quote directly connects to us right now because we are in history class. We have been studying history from our own nation to better understand what led up to our nation now. We look back at history like the Civil Rights Act and Slavery which can help us fix mistakes and learn from these events that racism is bad and we have to stand up for everyone's rights. I think that we always have to look back and study history to learn from these mistakes. It connects with me personally because I try to look back at what I have done in the past and what other people have done to try to help other people more. Our world today is at the point where we are very advanced but we all disagree on something with other people. We are disagreeing and this leads to conflicts between people and nations that hurt the lives of everyone. We are disagreeing with other people and just thinking about fighting for our own opinion when we can look at the past and see where fighting over different opinions has taken us as a world. It has led to wars and other events that have hurt the entire world and we have to learn from these events that fighting isn't going to do any good.

Studying history is important because people need to know about history to be prepared for the future. If people don't know past tragedies like WW2 then we will repeat the same mistakes. I also think knowledge of the government and how it works is important because if you don't know how your government works you will not be able to participate in it.

Knowing your rights is important because if you don't then they might get violated. Knowing the history of your country is also very important so you can understand how it formed and got to where it is today. I think current events like the Rev War, WWI, and WWII are more important than ancient history because our world is much more affected by the more current events than the ancient ones. I think that all schools should require a complete history of whatever country they lived in. Then they should teach about WWI and WWII. I think it is important to understand why the world is the way it is today and the way we can do that is by understanding the most recent events like the World Wars. Then schools should educate students about their own country's history so they can understand how their country was formed. The quote I picked was History despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, But if faced with courage, need not be lived again. - Maya Angelou. I think the author meant that whatever happened in history cannot be undone but if we are brave enough we can prevent it from happening again. This quote connects to how important it is to study history because it gives a reason to know history. It gives the reason that if we know about history we can prevent bad things from happening again. For example, if we know a lot about WWII we can learn how to prevent something like that from happening again by making sure people aren't manipulated that easily. This quote resonates with me because it is similar to what I already thought about why history is important. It also is very inspiring to see what I already thought in a very inspiring quote. This quote can be applied to inspire people to study history and make sure that they are educated so bad events from history aren't repeated.

Studying history is important because our history allows us to make better decisions for the future. If we did not look at the past and continued trying the same thing again and again, we would never move forward. Another reason history is an important topic is because of the impact the past has on us. People remember history and it has large and lasting effects on the current day. Learning about why that effect is there is important because it gets us to look deeper and gives us a better understanding of today. Historical subjects related to your country are more important than others. The reason for this is that you are a member of your own country, and not seeing what made or shaped your country will limit your ability to understand and look at what your country is today. For U.S. citizens, I think that there are a couple of things that should be required to learn. The first is how our country came to be, this being through the revolution against Britain. You should have to learn why the revolution happened and also what followed it. The second thing is our system of government and how it came to be, as well as major laws and policies like the Civil Rights Act. One thing that I think the whole world should be taught is the two world wars. This is because they were a long time ago and many kids today are unaware of the reality of these wars. Maya Angelou once said, "History, despite its wrenching pain, can not be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again." Angelou meant that if we look back at history, the facts will not change. What happened did happen. But if we look at history, we can see what happened and why, as well as try to avoid it happening again.

Learning history is very important. If you do not know much about the place where you live, its like having a claim without evidence. To fully understand how something is currently, you have to dig up the past and learn its history. This is how you fully understand something. I disagree that some events are more important than others because each event that took place, even a minor one could contribute to the big picture. Sure, the Declaration of Independence is an important document in U.S. history, but all of the little skirmishes and war before contributed to the big event. So you can never say that one event is more important than the other. Aside from big events like the American Revolution, I think that learning about how the government functions in the U.S. has more importance. I say this because knowing how the government works will naturally give you benefits and make life easier. The quote that I chose was "He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past"I think that the author meant that the people in history had the power to control how things are like nowadays, while the people in the present controls how much of the past is shown to the world. This quote connects to the importance of studying history because you can see the impacts that historical figures had on what something is like today. For example, George Washington has made many historical contributions to America and he was also the first president of the United States. He is an example of a historical figure that had great impacts and influence to their country. This quote resonated with me because I understood it perfectly and I could easily come up with examples. The people of today have full power of revealing past history, while also having the ability to make their mark in history that is yet to come.

I think it is important to study history because, through the study of history, you can learn how your country and the world around you came to be. Not only that but studying history is interesting because you can see how people back then used to live and how they functioned in everyday life. I do think there are some events that happened that are more important to others because some events shape how we live today more than others. For example, the Revolutionary War is more important than other events because it had more of an impact on how we are living today and the country that we are living in. I think what you learn about history should be based on where you live. I think a little world history is good but you should mainly focus on how your country and government came to be and more importantly how your government works and functions in the current day. For example, I think that it is good that we learned about American history this year and how our government came to be. Also how it functions and how you can participate because that information will be useful no matter what career you have. The quote I chose was "History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again." I think that the author meant that it is really important to study history because even though some things that happened in the past are evil and unjust we need to understand why it happened so it does not happen again. The quote connects with the importance of history because it helps us understand that bad things happened in the past and the quote helps us recognize that studying it makes sure that it does not happen again. For example, slavery was a really evil and unfair idea, and even though it is hard to look at how the people were treated it is important to see how it started so nothing like that can happen again. This quote stands out to me because I think that a lot of bad things happened in the past but I also believe that instead of hiding it away it should be brought up to see how we can learn from it. This quote can be applied to today's world because it helps us recognize that people in the future will be looking at the problems we have now and try to avoid them so instead we can try to put our effort into recognizing the problems and fixing them.

I think that it is important to study history because it is important to know the world's past and how things came to be. We would see the world as such a different place if we didn't learn about historical things like events, beliefs, people, and more. Our history is what shaped our world today and if we don't know how that happened then a lot of people would have a whole different perspective on the world around them. It's important to know that things change and life hasn't always been this way. It's also important to know which people helped shape this world and what things happened so that you could live your life the way it is. History also helps us appreciate different ideas and cultures of other people and how important others' views on society are.

I think that every part of history exists for a reason and has an important purpose on how life is today but some historic events of subjects have directly impacted us way more than others. For example, America's fight for Independence was so important because without it, Britain would unfairly rule us and it will create a domino effect that negatively impacts our country and the people who live in it. Without the Louisiana Purchase, America would probably be half or even a third of its current size and that would mean that way less people get to experience living in our free country. But even for the world, there are so many significant events that helped shape society and daily life for all people like the Industrial Revolution.

I do believe that there are topics that I think all American students should learn in school. This includes the American Revolution and how America became a country because it's important to know how your environment and your home became the place that it is today and the important people and events that helped shape it. Although it might not be historical I think we should also have to learn about the government system and voting because eventually we are gonna be adults who have to vote and in order to do that we have to learn how to educate ourselves on certain topics occurring in our country.

In the quote, "History is important. If you do not know history, it's as if you were born yesterday. And if you were born yesterday, anybody up there in a position of power can tell you anything, and you have no way of checking up on it."This quote connects to the importance of studying and learning history because it's saying that if you don't learn history you don't have any knowledge to form your own opinions on things and you can make mistakes or be unable to make specific decisions due to your lack of knowledge. Many people who don't do their research on electoral candidates may end up voting for someone who they really know nothing about and if that person is elected they could turn out to be someone completely different than imagined. It resonates with me personally because I have family members who don't know much about their past and it can lead to them making rash decisions with bad outcomes or judging other people based on things they have heard but not learned as a fact. They also tend to believe people who stay wrong because they were never taught better and then they feel bad about it afterwards. This quote can be applied to today's world because it can encourage people to learn about history if you don't it can lead to bad outcomes and people can take advantage of the knowledge that you lack. Without knowing history you will never know truth from false and you won't be able to form opinions on topics you've never heard about before.

Quote: “History is important. If you don’t know history, it’s as if you were born yesterday. And if you were born yesterday anybody up there in a position of power can tell you anything, and you have no way of checking up on it.” –Howard Zin

In my opinion, it is important to study history for two reasons. The first reason is that when there is a country struggling or a potential war, you can use history and look back in time to see the reason for this. The second reason is that to vote you need to know enough about your country and world problems to pick the best candidate.

I think major wars like the world wars and revolutions are important because they significantly changed how the world looks today. The Arab spring and other wars in the middle east are also extremely important because I feel that people are not educated enough about this area of the world which makes them draw incorrect conclusions. I think there are certain historical events that should be required to learn in school. Some examples are the world wars, the American revolution – if you live in America – and the Arab spring. These events have changed the world significantly and affect people and countries to this day.

It is important to learn history because people in a position in power can lie to you for their undeserved support. One example of this is Thomas Jefferson. He used to say things about his plans that he did not do which is common among presidents. This quote resonates with me because in sports, there are many people on the internet saying fake stats to get others to support their belief or to win debates. I have had to face these people many times. This quote applies to today's world because you need to do your research on politicians before voting because they lie and you voted for them, there is a person with lots of power who is not worthy.

Studying history is an integral part of shaping our present and our future. History is how the world and society we live in today have been shaped. By not studying history, you don't have a sense of knowledge of where things came from. History has formed our society from the rules we follow, how we act, who we are, and what our future is to hold. There are some events in history that are very significant to who we are as a whole today. Some major events that have a big impact on where we stand today are the creation of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the American Revolution, and the War of 1812. These events, and studying them, recall what our past humans went through to get us where we are today. For example, the Bill of Rights, our individual liberties and freedoms that we live by. Some liberties like our freedom of speech, freedom or religion, and freedom to petition the government, are all key factors to who we are. And knowing that you have these liberties is a very significant piece of knowledge to guide you throughout your life. I think there are certain topics that should be required to learn in school. Such as the Bill of Rights, the American Revolution, the last battle of it, War of 1812, and Constitutional Conventions. These all have a lasting impact on us currently and our future generations. Martin Luther King says, “We are not makers of History. We are made from History”. I think he meant that we cannot make up history or change anything, but what has happened before in history is what shapes who we are today. And what has happened in history has created the rules we live by. This connects to the significance of learning about history because he is saying that it shapes who we are. It shapes and relates to how we live, and without learning history, you don’t have a sense as to why things are the way they are. For example, the American Revolution, when the Americans gained independence from Great Britain and broke off to become their own nation. Major events like that prove how learning about history is important to yourself and what your past society went through. This quote resonated with me because it recalled that we are made up of history. This quote is telling me that we cannot change history, but the way history has changed creates us humans. It can also be applied to the world we live in today. Especially now, in 2024, everyone is competitive and pushing to change things and make things the right way, but this quote tells you that some things cannot be changed. History is what made things to be this way and individuals can’t change it to make it better.

I think that it's important to study history because we want to learn from our mistakes. When people make mistakes they learn from them and grow due to them. In history there are thousands of mistakes that people made that we can learn from. For example, when people first tried invading Russia they didn’t come prepared for the harsh winter so they died. When they tried again they were prepared for the winter and survived. I also think that it's important to get a different perspective on things so in history you get a whole new perspective. One case of this is slavery, which we look back at now and think it's horrible. The people of the time probably thought that it was just the way the world worked and was better that way. This shows us that the precedent for the time wasn’t always the correct idea or way of thinking. When it comes to historical events, I believe that some historical events are more important than others because only some of history might be relevant. If we look at the way that a Japanese Pufferfish makes art in the sand it might not be relevant to what we need today. Times that I feel are not relevant are the times of relative peace. In the time of peace there are moments that are important but the moments are only a small piece of the time of peace. During times of peace there is usually much development whether military or in everyday items. That is important but sometimes not relevant or useful in the current day. In school, I think that you should be required to learn about where your country came from, the wars your country started and played a major part in, and the major domestic struggle that your country went through. I think that learning about where your country came from can give you a deeper understanding of what it means to be part of your country and what people have gone through. If your country has always been a ruling country and better than the rest take pride in it and live up to it. If your country came through strife, use it to fuel your drive to become better and rise up. I also think that knowing what your country has done, such as starting a war, is important because you can see what people valued at the time and what lengths they were willing to go through to get what they wanted. You can also see all the mistakes that your country has made and work to prevent them from happening again. I think that knowing what domestic actions have happened in your country can really shape a person as well. Domestic struggles show what the people think and feel about a certain idea or action. The civil rights movement was a big one that happened in America and it shows how many people really didn’t like the laws oppressing people and their rights. It also shows how the politicians at the time were thinking. They thought that it wasn’t right to have relationships in such a manner and would create laws to stop them. I looked at the quote “A people without knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.” - Marcus Garvey. I think that the author meant that people who don't know where they are, those around them, and the ideas that they believe in are similar to a tree that doesn't have roots. A tree without roots doesn't know where it came from and why it does, what it does. A tree without roots also would die and I think that the author might also be trying to tell us that history is necessary to our survival. Perhaps this idea that if we don’t know where we came from we don’t have a base to build off of. Maybe the people she was referring to didn’t know anything about life or their culture and died because of it.

I think that it is very important to study history. When people know about events/ ideas/ moments in the past, they can learn from mistakes that humans made and build off of ideas that humans had. History is also important because when you get a job or go to another country, people will expect you to know certain things about the past. When you don’t know these things, you appear ignorant. It is also important to learn about things like the construction of your government. People are less likely to get in trouble with the law if they know their rights and responsibilities. Some historical topics are more important than others. Events that had a major impact on society today are more important than events that did little to nothing to change how society works. For example, the World Wars had played a very important role in the way that the world works today. The World Wars also caused a lot of fear, death, and economical issues. Some more examples are the American Revolution, the COVID pandemic, the Spanish Influenza, and the Black Plague. The United States is one of the world powers today. It has a lot of impact on people all over the world. The Black Plague killed one in every three Europeans, and COVID and the Spanish Influenza also killed many people. I do believe that certain topics should be required in schools. I think that people should learn the history of their country in school. People should also learn about the World Wars and other wars that multiple countries participated in. These are events that have happened all over the world. People mention these topics all the time and they are considered common knowledge. The quote: “History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” (Maya Angelon) does a really good job explaining the importance of history. I think the author means that although history can be painful or uncomfortable to learn about, the problems that we see in our history will continue to be a problem unless we acknowledge and fix the problems. A problem cannot be addressed and fixed until it is acknowledged, understood, discussed, and thought-out. This quote connects to the importance of history because it is saying that history is an important part of solving problems and saving people’s lives. Things like slavery is a lot less common, especially in the United States because we have been able to look back at history and see why it is wrong. I liked this quote because I thought that it explained the importance of history very well. I also liked how it mentioned the consequences of not knowing history rather than just the benefits. This quote can be applied to the world today because we need to learn about past issues with things like racism to treat people as best as we can today.

History is a crucial topic of a good education. Students must know the history of their world so that they can compare the present to the past. Young people’s decision-making can also benefit due to some of the causes and effects in history. The Articles of Confederation are an example of a failed government, say someone is trying to build a new government, they can look back in history and take notes of what sort of things might make a government unstable. Historical topics can be of a huge range of importance; some topics are less significant than others. For example, the Revolutionary War was a big event in American history that Americans should especially know. Other smaller topics, like the birth of John Adam’s five children, are not so significant to daily things that Americans might discuss or need to know. In my opinion, the history of the town/state/country/continent where a school is located should be taught to the students so they know at least a little bit about where they live and what kind of things happened in the past there. I also think that students should be educated on global history topics. For example, the many wars between America and Britain affected almost the whole world because of trading issues, slavery, etc. “ History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not to be lived again.” With this quote, Maya Angelou may have meant that even though history can be painful, it is in the past, and we can learn from the choices historians made. This quote connects to the importance of studying history because it allows us to look back on past events and relize what might be the outcome of our actions or decisions. Personally, when I read this quote, I completely agree. The idea of growing from the past recorded events is very logical and I wrote it in my response aswell. Today we are always making chances so past events can help us predict the outcome of these so we can fully prepare for the worst.

Personally, I think it is important to study history because it teaches us about our past. Knowing what happened to get the time where we are now is so integral to just the overall knowledge of a person. It keep us well informed and teaches us about our mistakes, avoiding them from happening again. Another thing is culture. Culture derives from the past or history of a place, and without knowing it you cannot completely understand why it's important. Our past, or our countries past, is what shapes everything around us, especially in America. We stole ours and from those who lived here before us, it's only respectful if we learn about them. Definitely. I believe that the most important thing to learn in this class is the state of our world now. Understanding a community and how to function in it when it comes to the government will be, by far, the most important thing that we learn. Understanding our history is obviously needed, but knowing our rights matter much more. These affect us now. In the future, it is likely that I will be pulled over for misconduct for any number of reasons. Just knowing my rights can help me so much to avoid being prosecuted or attacked without reason. Knowing your rights makes it all that much more difficult to be stripped of them. I think it should be required to know all of your rights, like we learned. I think spending more time on that would be much more beneficial in the long run of things. I’m pretty sure that all schools learn it, but going in depth can be so helpful. I still have many questions about the matter, yet no answers to any of them. Learning about my rights would also be fun, in my opinion. / / / / “History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” I believe that the author meant that if you understand our past, we can avoid it from happening again, but if we forget it because it's sad, it may occur again. I believe that it does because that was my main point for learning about history. Maybe knowing why communism is good in theory, but could never actually work because of the past with it would be an example. I found this quote specifically resonating with me because I thought this exact same thing and have been telling people this whenever asked. If we understand our mistakes, we can avoid them in the future. We will surely repeat them if we forget them.

We should know history so we can know where we went wrong in the past and we don’t make those same mistakes again. It's also good to know other countries' history and compare it to others and see how different their past history was from ours. American history is good to know for us because it happened on the grounds we live in so we can know what happened in our country. I also think that wars and important events that lead up to what would be today are important. In history, there were lots of battles and wars and very hard times people had to go through bringing them pain, but if you know how to problem solve and fight through the pain, you don’t have to feel the pain again. We should know what happened in history and honor what people had to go through fighting for us. For example it's important to honor the people who fought to help get America its freedom because if they never did that, we would not have freedom and life would be a lot more different than it is now. The quote I chose makes me think about the hard times that happened in the past and how we are lucky we don’t have to go through some of the same things. When the quote says that we don’t need to relieve the pain again because we already fought for our freedoms and now people resolve problems without fighting as much.

I think we can learn a lot from history since history tends to repeat itself. The past can help dictate better choices in the future, and see what works out and what doesn’t. Yes, I do think some historical events are more important than others because you can have some obscure events in history that do not matter at all in the grand scheme of things, and some events that affect our everyday lives currently. I guess you can make an argument that everything is connected, but at least for me, some parts of history affect me more than others. I think emphasis should be put on aspects of your culture and background. People should be able to choose what they learn because when you are from somewhere else and lose that part of you in America, it feels like a void in a way. Your culture and background should be something that you are proud of, not forgotten. I think Marcus Garvey meant that people who don’t know the history of their descendants are people without a foundation, like a tree without roots. If the people don’t know their past, they are limited only by what they have and prone to mistakes. It connects to the importance of history because you need history as a foundation for everything else. As the quote says, people without their past are like trees without roots, and without those roots, you don’t have stable ground on which to build. Some Americans now don’t have a solid understanding of the history of America and have no idea how lucky they are to have all these freedoms and rights. It resonates with me because at first, I thought it was a stupid quote, but when I thought about it more, it made more sense. If we had no recollection of the past and were only left with the technology we have now, we can figure things out, but we have to make mistakes to learn what works and what doesn’t. This quote can be applied to today's world by first, learning history. By learning history, you are educating yourself on what has happened in the past and learning from it. Second, understanding the importance of learning history, because solid foundations are very important.

It is important to study history because we learn skills that are valuable in most jobs when we’re older. History teaches us to think critically and form opinions based on facts. It teaches us how to evaluate sources and inform others efficiently. It’s also important to study history because we can understand how our government works and how the whole world got to be the way it is today. Looking at history helps us understand current events, which is one of our responsibilities as citizens. Yes, not every piece of history is going to be related to today or teach us something we’ll need to know. I think topics that are pushed aside because they include discrimination and persecution, such as slavery, are extremely important to learn about. These topics often have a huge effect on how nations came to be, and people need to know about them, maybe more than topics so often talked about. I think we should learn more about current events in school. Students should understand what’s happening in their government and in the world from a young age, so that they can learn to fight misinformation and have a basis to watch events unfold. I chose this Maya Angelou quote to analyze: History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” Angelou meant that we can’t end the pain that happened in history. She also means that if the next generation is taught well, if there’s lots of stories and awareness about a terrible piece of history, then it won’t happen again. History repeats itself, so if students learn history, they can recognize the signs that lead to something bad - maybe a tyrannical government - and take action to stop it. For example, the American Revolution lead to a lot of deaths but it also lead to freedom. Other places, such as France, were inspired by it and and recognized that their situation was similar. This quote is inspiring and it has a message of hope. The quote tells us that by simply learning and understanding our history, we can have a brighter future. I think we’ve learned that generations can simply deny huge, awful events from history, such as the Holocaust. There are people that don’t believe it happened at all. There’s so much misinformation and so many conspiracy theories that it’s important to learn history at school more than ever. If young people bear a little of the pain that came before them, they can avoid so much more pain.

I think it's important to study history for many different reasons. One reason is that it's important to know how your government works so that you are able to stay informed so you can voice your opinion and participate in a responsible and sensible way. If you know how your government works you can make sure that your opinion doesn't get affected by others around you when you get the opportunity to participate in our government by voting. Another reason I think you should study history is because it's useful to know the history of America. While studying history I have been able to prove points and know things about our country that some adults don't even know. One topic in history that I think is more important than others is learning about how laws are passed and how our government works. You can use this topic in your everyday life. On the other hand, I don't really mention the French and Indian war on a day to day basis. In the US especially our government and politics are very common conversations and even when your in school it's good to have a basis on where you stand on topics.I think learning about civic action and the civic action project should be required to learn in school. During the civic action unit I learned how I could take part in my community. I also learned other ways to voice your opinion when you're not able to vote. I think this should be a required school topic so that young students can understand that your opinion makes a difference. Before that unit I thought the only way to participate in my government was by voting and maybe protesting. But the civic action unit taught me what it really meant to be part of a community. My quote was "History will judge societies and governments - and their institutions - not by how big they are or how well they serve the rich and the powerful, but by how effectively they respond to the needs of the poor and helpless " .I think the author meant that nobody cares how well governments treated the people with so much already. They care about how they care for the people who have little to nothing. This quote connects to learning history because for me, when I read an article I don't really care about how they help the already rich people, I like learning about how they treat the people who really need the help. This quote resonates with be because I think that we shouldn't focus so much on the people who don't need the help and we should focus on the people who may not be okay without our help. This applies to today's world Homelessness and starvation are big problems in today's world and we may try to help but if we take the focus off the people who already have so much, we would definitely be able to help them more.

It is important to study history because there are many small details like names of people and the names of battles and since we do not know what will be on the test it is important to know those things so that we can be prepared for what’s gonna be on it. I think that all historical events are equally important because they all lead to where we are today. If some events never occurred then we might not be living in a country that is like the U.S. Even if some events were more significant than others, they still play a big role in bigger events. I think there are certain historical topics that should be taught in school. Some of these topics are war crimes that have been committed, slavery, and topics about what people have been through. By learning these topics it would show us what humanity has experienced and dark times in our past. It is important for people to learn and be aware of the past and by teaching these topics it would help prevent them from occurring in the future. The quote I chose was “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.” I think the author is saying that if people do not know where they came from and what their history was like then they are on their own. If people know nothing about their ancestors and how they came to be then they are not really connected with them because they have no roots to them. It is important to learn about historic events because it teaches us about our past and what led to where we are today. An example of this would be learning about the Holocaust. Some people might not know what occurred during the holocaust, so by learning about it teaches us about what happened and it will make people aware. This quote resonates with me personally because I think that knowing about certain topics can be helpful. Knowledge can be very helpful and by knowing about your past and your culture and origin it can help you understand what you are like. This quote can be applied to today's world by helping people get to know what their history and what their culture is like.

Learning about history is important because it helps us know how America came to be. Also, it helps us understand the government in our world. This is important because when we leave school we should know about these things like our government, and how America is here. Yes, the American Revolution because it shows how people put their lives in danger to help others be free. Also learning about our government because when we are older we should know how our government works. Like the different branches of government. We learned about each branch and why it is important and I think learning about this is important. Not only just for school purposes but for your own life like when you are old enough to vote. Yes, I think that there should be some required topics like how the government works, and the American Revolution. I think this because when we learn about these different things we bring them out of school and into our own lives. For example, in life, there will be a time when you need to know about the government. The quote I chose is “We are not makers of history, we are made of history”. I believe the author means that we don't make history, history comes before us. I think that they also mean there is so much history from that past that many people don't know about so they want us to learn about that history. I think that this relates to learning history because when you learn about history you learn about the past. So when we are made of history this means that the history in the past makes us as a person. I think that this relates to me because sometimes you never think about the past, only the future. I think that this applies to the world today because many people take for granted the history of the world. Also, many people know nothing about the history of anything.

It is important to study history so we can be educated about how and why things happen. For example, it is important to learn our country's origins so we know how things came to be. It is also important to learn about different cultures and ideas so we are educated on how to be kind and understand other cultures. It is also important to learn many of the bad things in history and why they happened to ensure we don’t repeat history. Specific topics like certain wars or events with very significant outcomes or impacts are more important to learn than something like how a painting was inspired. For example, WWII and the civil rights movement are very important things to learn about. There are certain topics that should be required to learn about in school. For example, the civil rights movement, WWII, slavery, and other cultures are very important to cover in order to inform students about the bad things that happened in history and how to avoid these things from happening again. Maya Angelou stated, “History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” By saying this, Maya Angelou meant that if we confront our past history and learn about the past, we can help prevent things like these from happening again. This quote tells us that it is important to learn about history so we don’t repeat horrible things from the past. For example, we learn about slavery and the cruelty of it in school to explain not only why it was wrong, but why it should never happen again. This quote resonated with me because it described history as containing wrenching pain. It also points out how history cannot be unlived, but if we learn about it and face it “with courage,” we can prevent it from happening again. Today, this quote serves as a warning to all people. It warns us to be informed of the past, be aware of its consequences, and know that horrible things from the past do not have to be relived.

I think that it is important to study history for many reasons. First of all, it tells you the past about where you are from or where you live. For example, I’m Greek, so I think it is important to know the history that Greece has because it is my heritage and is good information to know. History allows you to see problems that happened in the world and what came out of them. It shows you how things were created and why they are the way they are today. Without history, there would be no today, so it is important to know what happened to create the world we live in now. I think that history topics that are more important than others can depend. I feel that it is most important to learn the history that specifically relates to you. So again, I enjoy and find it important to learn about Greek history. I am also an American, so I think that learning about how America came to be with the wars we fought and how we got our independence is another very important thing for me to learn about. I also think that world-altering events are the most important to learn about because they have an impact on everyone. An example is the two World Wars - these wars and what led up to them are so important for everyone to know. Yes, I think that there are certain topics of history that we should be required to learn about in school. I think that in the U.S., we should have to learn about the American Revolution, our presidents, etc. because they are important parts of our history. I also think that we should be required to learn about our government. As we get older, the government and how things work will become increasingly more important. I didn’t know much about the government and how it works at all before this class, and I already feel much more ready and responsible for the real world than I was at the beginning. I think that the quote “A people without the knowledge of their history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots.” (Marcus Garvey) means that the world has grown from history, and without it, we would not exist today. He uses the simile to compare a tree without roots because without roots a tree would not be able to grow or live, and even though we can’t see the roots under the ground, they are still the most important part. This quote connects to the importance of learning about history because it gives the idea that you need to know how you got to where you are today and that history made us who we are. This quote resonates with me because it makes me want to learn more about history so that I can feel like I am a fulfilled person and I know where I came from. This quote can be applied to today’s world because a lot of people ask a question along the lines of: Why do I have to learn history if the people aren’t still alive? The answer is that history is what created the world we live in today and it is so important to know more about it.

I think it's important to know why things are the way they are and know how things came to be. I also think it is

important to learn about mistakes made in the past to prevent repeating them. I also believe, that learning about how are country was founded is one of the most important subjects that you can learn because it teaches about our history. I think it is very important to learn about mistakes made in history so we know some of the problems that occurred. I think it should be required to learn about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I think it is very important that we all know our rights as US citizens. It's important to know our rights so we can stand up for ourselves if there is an injustice. The quote is chose was “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots” (Marcus Garvey). I think he is trying to say that if a society is not educated on their past customs and origin then they can easily be swayed or taken over. A tree without roots is weak and can be easily pushed over and stomped on, he is saying that if the citizens of a nation don’t learn about their origin and culture they will be easily trampled. It relates to the importance of studying and learning history because it talks about how weak a society or nation would be if citizens didn’t learn about its history. I think that in cases where there is an attempt to conquer a nation if there is no unity in the people and they don’t have any nationalism then the nation can be easily conquered. It resonates with me personally because I also think that it is important that we all know how our country is founded. Knowing about our country and its origins can unite us as citizens and create a sense of nationalism. It can be applied to today's world by making sure that citizens know how our country was formed and all the hardships and issues that we overcame. There were many problems and wars in the fight for independence and it is important to learn about these things.

It’s important to study history because people need to understand the past in order not to make the same mistakes in the future. By learning about everyone's past, not only can we understand why and how certain events and laws happened, but we can start to understand each other too. History might not necessarily be U.S. history. Everyone comes from a different background, and understanding that background, helps us understand each other. I think government history is a more important topic than others. Though there are different types of government, and everyone views it differently, if you don’t understand why and how the government does certain things, you can’t participate in or protest against it. Learning about the government you live under is crucial to being able to participate in society. When you participate in government and stay up to date on current events, you hold just a little more power over your actions and potentially others. Lots of people say knowledge is power, and I agree. By learning who makes the rules you have to abide by, you just might be able to have a say in changing those laws.

The quote that I chose was“History is important. If you don't know history, it's as if you were born yesterday. And if you were born yesterday, anybody up there in a position of power can tell you anything, and you have no way of checking up on it” by Howard Zinn. I think the author was trying to convey the message that learning about your history -and the history of the world around you- is important. He states “if you were born yesterday, anybody up there in a position of power can tell you anything” and you would inevitably have to believe it. By not learning history, you won’t know where present people, things, and ideas came from. If you have no background knowledge, sources, or first-hand accounts, you can only believe what those around you say. And even if you don’t believe it (but you also wouldn’t know to not believe it…), there is no way of proving it. This quote connects to the importance of studying and learning history as it directly states that without prior knowledge of something, you are like a blind sheep listening to the boy call wolf even when there is none. Not learning about the past of something means you can’t validate that it -whatever “it” may be is true. This quote resonates with me personally because it reminds me of taking responsibility. I think adults sometimes try to censor the information kids receive -normally because of their age- and it prevents them from truly understanding certain things. I think reading the news is a big way we can apply this quote to our day-to-day lives. By staying informed on current and past events, we can learn to act in certain ways in similar future events.

I think that it is very important for humans to learn about history, especially our past. I think that in order to not repeat the mistakes of the past is to learn about them. If we learn about why or how something happened, we will be able to stop or prevent it in the future. This is the concept of learning from your mistakes. One example of learning from our mistakes is the attack on the twin towers. Instead of just accepting that something could not be fixed, we took new measures to make sure it doesn't happen again. We took a mistake from the past and used it to fix something that keeps us safer. Personally, I think that anytime something bad happens in the world, we can always use it to fix something. I think that this will help people out later in life because if we keep learning from our mistakes, eventually we can become better people. The more mistakes we make, the more we grow as people. I think that the importance of historical topics depends on the person. I think that it is more important to learn about history that relates to you and your ancestors and identity. For example, I am Jewish and I think that it would be important for me to learn about my ancestors and my identity. A good topic that would be very important for me to learn about is the holocaust. This may not be very important for someone else to learn but it is important for me because it directly relates to my family and my identity. Maya Angelou says that "History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived. But if faced with courage, need not be lived again. I think that she is saying 2 things. She is saying that we can never undo the mistakes of the past, but we can take them, and use them for the better. When something happens to us, instead of backing down and accepting that it can't be fixed, work to try to find out how you can use the mistakes to fix things.

Studying history is important because it is important to know what has happened in the past and what mistakes we have made. If we learn from history, hopefully, we won't make the same mistakes again. It is also important to know what created our lives currently. Whether it's the government or just our society in general, it is important to know what has shaped our society today. Some historical topics, events, or subjects are more important than others because some may be more relevant than others to what is currently happening. They are all important but some relate more to what is currently happening in our government, or just in our general society. For example, history events that happened in other countries might not be as important as events that happened in the U.S. I believe that certain topics should be required to be learned in American schools. I think that the topics that should be required are the American Revolution, our early government, and what mistakes we made during those those things. I think that these topics should be taught in school because they are crucial for people to understand how our country came to be. If we don't know about the Articles of Confederation then we will never know what mistakes we made then. If we don't know what mistakes we made then we won’t know not to make those mistakes. If people are educated on topics such as these then our society will be better and we will better understand why our society is the way that it is. The quote that I chose was “History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” by Maya Angelou. I think that what Maya Angelou meant with the quote is that History can be hard to learn about and know all the terrible things that happened, but if we don't learn about those things then history will repeat itself. This author connects to the importance of studying and learning history by telling us that if we don't learn from our mistakes in history then we will never be able to grow as a society because history will keep repeating. This quote resonates with me because I believe that we have to learn from history as well. If we didn't learn from the mistakes that we have made in the past, then we would just continue on an endless cycle of the same mistakes. This quote can be applied to today's world by making sure the leaders of our society are educated in our history so they don't repeat the same mistakes. If our leaders repeat mistakes that have already been made then those choices affect all of us.

It’s important to study history because it informs you about your country’s past as well as important historical events that affect your daily life. History itself is important because if we don’t learn about our past, then we won’t be able to improve our future. This is especially important when it comes to mistakes during wars or government leaderships that could cause a downfall if the same mistakes were to be made in the present and the future. This is why it’s important to at least look back and remember our history. Not only will it inform us of our past, but we can also apply that knowledge to our future to make it better. I think that things like the forming of nations or world war may be more significant than things like the XYZ Affair. I’m saying this because not all history should be remembered, and there are events that are more significant than others that are worth remembering. I’m not saying that smaller issues should be invalidated, but that a lot of events didn’t help contribute to where we are today, so things like World War ll or the Constitutional Convention are events that should be remembered due to their significant role in either a certain nation or the world’s development. I think that things like the forming of our government and civic participation in a Democracy are things that should be forced to learn. These things are activities that we ourselves can do and we should be well informed of our own society and government. I also think that things like wars should be taught because they also show a lot about certain nation’s past and their problems. The quote I chose was: “History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” - Maya Angelou

I think that she meant that history can hold many painful memories and events in the past that can be hard to look back on, but if we face it with more confidence and the ability to grow from those incidents, they won’t occur again. She’s saying that we can’t really avoid something that affects us everyday, and that in order to fix the problem, we have to face it. It connects with studying history because we are facing our own past as a nation despite also learning about brutal events, such as the Boston Massacre, or the Battle of Fort McHenry, we still have persevered and now are a lot more informed about our past. We can use our knowledge to try and avoid the mistakes that we learned about and apply them in the future. It resonates with me personally because I also think that when it comes to things like grudges or fights, it’s easy to not want to look back at those bad memories, however, you can never move forward from those events without actually confronting them. This quote can be applied to today’s world since politics is becoming more and more prominent to citizens. Everyone is hearing about certain events like Russia attacking Ukraine or the Israel and Palestine War. By looking back at our history, we can start becoming more involved in our government and society, and we can try and voice our own opinions about the matter.

It's important to study history because we should know how our history played out and why we are in the position we are in today, also to learn about more current events and stay on top of the history at hand. I do think some topics in history are more important than others, like the constitution and the reason our government came to be and many of the huge historical wars ( american revolution, war of 1812, world war for the the constitution, I say this because if we don't know our rights how can we defend ourselves in a time of need. We should also know our constitution because people took their time to make sure that our rights are protected and it is just respectful to learn about why they chose those rights and it is also important to learn so we can help others who are not as educated as us in the topic of the constitution. The quote I picked was- The great force of history comes from the fact that we carry it within us, are controlled by it in many ways, history is likely present in all that we do. By: James Baldwin. I think the author of this quote meant that even though we overlook our history it is everywhere and how we make our own history even if we are not realizing it. I also think that he meant to show some awareness of history and how history is such an important topic to learn and how people don't pay respect. This is connected to learning about history because all the rules, prevention and connections are made by our history. For example we are free from the British that is because Americans felt so strongly about giving other generations and their freedom, so for that they fought a war and battle and debated we would still be under the British or who knows what would've happened if they didn't fight for america to be free. It resonates with me because history is one of my favorite subjects. And I am fascinated by how things happened and why they happened. But mostly it is because when I think of history I think of people dying for later generations and I think it is only fair to pay respect to them by learning about the impact they made in our history. It can be applied to today because today would be the start of a war or a new law. And maybe people generations from now are learning about our history and what life was like for us. Also I think it is important to always realize we would not be here today without history and what people did for us.

It is important to study history because when we learn about people’s past experiences and mistakes, we won’t repeat them again and will be more aware but the present. Our constitution and rights are the most important topics in history, in my opinion, since they are directly implicated in and intersect with our lives. What should be thought in school are our rights, the Constitution, the Revolutionary War, and WW2. Firstly, the Constitution and our rights are needed because they are laws and very important in our lives. The Revolution and the Second World War are important for us to understand at what price our ancestors and others paid for freedom and how not to lose it.

Quote: History is important. This quote connects to studying history, for example, in the way that people, often in many dictatorships, are lied to and don’t know, allowing the regimes to continue and the number of their victims to increase. If these people learned history they would not believe that and would slowly organize themselves to overthrow those that make their lives miserable. This quote also connects to me because I lived in an authoritarian country for the majority of my life, and the only way to get a good and unbiased point on what’s going on was to learn history and understand what’s true and lies. Also, today this quote can be applied in the way If people want to understand what’s going on in their country. If their politicians are good leaders, they should learn history and ways to check information so they can know what’s truth and lie and compare it to past cases in history.

It’s important to study history so we can learn about the past. We can see how things happened in the past, and learn from them. For example, if a conflict arose, we can look at how similar events in the past played out. Then, based on what happened, we can make a similar choice to what people did, or learn from their mistake and make a better choice. Some history topics are more important than others though. For example, Civics is a topic that is more important than others. While things like American History and ancient history are good topics now, civics is something that we will use in the real world. The Miranda warning was a result of someone not knowing their basic rights. Because they were uneducated, a murderer got away with the crime. If in the case where you were pulled over by a police officer, knowing your rights will prevent you from a cop twisting your words. History that relates to ongoing issues is important. It gives us context to the situation and can help us better understand the causes. Especially with things like social media being put into the mix, misinformation can spread. You could hear things that are untrue, and very strong opinions online. Seeing the history can help you formulate your own opinions, but there are some other topics we should learn. In my opinion, one of them is finance. In this day and age where inflation skyrockets and the debt we have to pay increases, it is important to know how to manage our money effectively. I’ve seen countless videos where necessities like groceries have increased by almost 100% compared to the last decade. The issue will only get worse if we don’t learn how to manage our money. For my quote, I chose “ He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past”. What the author meant by this quote is that whoever tells what happened in the past can control the future. Often, people will look into the past to decide their opinions and future actions. The past can tell you the truth, but if the past is changed, that will have a domino effect and affect the future. You can only change history if you are the one controlling the present, and telling people the past. Studying history can help us formulate our own opinions and take civic action based on that. For example, in the Israel-Hamas war thing, people are protesting it and calling for a ceasefire. There is a ton of misinformation online, and it’s helpful to know the context of it. I like this quote because it gives me a reminder to always do my own research before having an opinion/taking sides. This quote can be a good reminder to never believe anything on social media. There are always people taking extreme sides, and giving false information. We should always get our news from reliable sources.

Why is it important to study history? I never really had an understanding to why it's essential to study history, but this year I learned how it's very important for you. Studying history opens doors or questions that you had and couldn't answer, like why something is the way it is. An example of its importance are your amendments and Bill of rights. In the U.S. we have the Bill of rights which are your first 10 amendments that are rights that are crucial to you, and you probably didn't even know you had them. Studying history can also be for the future and not now. Because like the civic action project that I did in history class where we learned about civic responsibilities and how things are connected like teacher income and transportations or transportation and housing and so on. Going back to your civic responsibility, it's like responsibilities you have as a citizen, and these are only some reasons why it's important to study history. I think that yes, there are events more important than others, like wars. Or an example like when we talked about Napoleon and how he used Santo Domingo, Haiti as like a naval supply base and how it was taken over or something, but then imagine if it weren't to be taken down what would be of us now like history could have been written completely different. Another topic I feel is also important is slavery, I feel like it was a huge event that happened in history, and what would be of us if it weren't abolished? So yes I feel some topics are more important than others, but at the end of the day they all add up to what our history is looking like right now, but also what has happened to our country. I also believe that are topics in history that you should learn. Like theirs stuff that you shouldn’t leave school without learning like the basics at least. So who was our first president or what wars has the U.S. participated in. Basically, things that are very important in history like the abolishment of slavery.

A quote from history that I choose was: “people without the knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots” - Marcus Lavery In this quote Marcus is trying to say that if you don’t know what happened in the past you won’t know why you have this culture or this gov, maybe even this belief. So your roots are like the culture and origin that you have, and have to know to grow, and follow sort of like a tree. This quote connects with the importance of history because it talks about the importance of studying history because it says the knowledge of the past is like what keeps you informed and keeps your roots like from their origin or the start. I don’t know how it resonates with me personally, but I like it and how it says it's important to have knowledge of history so you can stay connected with your origins.

I think it is important to study history because if we don't stay educated on the things that happened in the past, we can't learn from our mistakes. History always repeats itself, so we have to try our best to remember what happened and how we can do things differently in the future.

I think all historical events are semi-important and they all led to other events, but I think all the events that stemmed out of racism, anti-semitism, etc (such as slavery, the Holocaust, and Japanese Incarceration camps) were very important parts of history. They shaped how our world is now, and they were horrible events that we have to learn from.

I think it should be required to learn about World War 2 and the Holocaust because it shows how one person's ideas can affect millions of people. One person can be responsible for millions of deaths, and it shows how we have to make sure the wrong person doesn't get too much power.

History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again - Maya Angelou

Angelou meant that we can't ignore our history, no matter how horrible it may be, because if we don't face it, history will repeat itself.

This quote connects to the idea of learning about America before the Civil Rights Movement because if we didn't learn about this in school, children may not understand why people of color face so much oppression in society. If they don't understand what people of color had to go through, they may be ignorant of their personal struggles. This shows that history is important because it teaches us of how to learn from our mistakes.

When I was younger, my mom told me about what it was like growing up in communist Romania, and it got me really interested in Romania's history and how they overcame communism. If we ignore those roots, they can grow again.

In today's world, we learn about history and our mistakes every day, and it helps us move forward. We are still making mistakes, so hopefully in the future, we can move past them.

I think that it is integral to study history because it is important to acknowledge those who have fought for our independence today and the events and stories that have gotten us here. It is also important because we can learn from our past mistakes during wars, battles, and other events. I believe that there are historical topics, events, or subjects that are more important than others. For instance, the American Revolution, World War 1, and World War 2 are all huge events that have happened and have definitely impacted us more than other events. I believe that you should be required to learn about wars, early settlements, world wars, revolutionary wars, and a few other events. I believe that we should learn about those because they have greatly affected the present day, and without the knowledge of those past events, we won't understand current-day events.
