an English-speaking Puerto Rican girl whose family has yearly cookouts with homemade empanadas, tostones, maduros, and coquito,

I'm a daughter, a friend, outspoken, the therapist in the group, 

with a cat and two dogs who I love and protect.

Art, oil paints, sharpie on skin, I struggle with finishing projects but have endless beginnings. 

Anxiety and bad memories, low emotions and energy, ADHD and depression slow my life and mind like I'm moving through jell-o and my brain is busy with sound and thought and introspection that doesn't slow down with the rest of me. 

My ears are rarely unplugged, always filled with alternative music, independent bands, post-punk or industrial rock, but I keep my green-hazel eyes open to take in as much of the world as I can.

I am polite but closed-off to strangers,

and I am never the one to initiate handshakes,

though I hug my friends every time I see them.

I'm pansexual, preferring women, and I struggle to insist I don't fit into my family's comfortable preconceptions and wants.

I maintain eye contact when voicing something I believe in but look away when confronting people I struggle standing up to. I wear my heart on my sleeve, and platonic love comes easy but trust comes slow.

Born Catholic, bible-raised, taught to pray at every new activity, my spirituality was meant to be cross-shaped and straight, but I love learning about science and history and theory that never falls into one religious or scientific box.

My grape-flavored hair feels natural as any part of me, 

and it's what I choose to do with myself that feels more real than my skin.

I get easily dissociated and feel disconnected from myself often, but being able to express myself makes me feel grounded.

"My body is my temple," and I choose what I decorate it with. I love vintage clothes and I hang up my art, messy sketch or painting or sculpture, to add color to my  room, hand-me-down beige walls from my grandmother when she lived with us.

My favorite possession is a silver ring I made from scratch, that I used such a delicate gauge for I had to melt and solder it with two small butane torches so the metal wasn't destroyed.

I don't know what my future holds, but I've developed an apathy for it in a way that only helps me look forward--fourteen years of anxiously plotting my future in the back of school notebooks fizzled into nothing, a nothing I am much more comfortable with. I don't know what the future holds but I plan only to vibe with whatever I'm given. 

I have two back-up plans if I'm ever incredibly aimless and desperate. Though I want to travel the world and think about working in an art museum, if all else fails I have safety nets, one I like to call finding a long-term financial beneficiary, and the other the somewhat ironic plan to become a nun.
