Activity to get familiar with the binary system. Students are given a worksheet with the alphabet coded according to the binary system. Each letter is a combination of 0 and 1, where 0 is white and 1 is coloured black. Students code their name on a worksheet according to the code of each letter. They then exchange the worksheets, without the children knowing which is which, and decode the picture by finding the name to which it corresponds.

A non-electronic activity in which pupils practise problem solving, observation and understand the operation of the binary system on which the operation of computers is based.

Acquire basic programming skills by playing with Beebot  The activity is an online activity where students have to guide the bee to the square with the number that the dice brought and then to the name of the number. This also achieves the learning of the English name of the numbers. For this activity, we used the interactive board. Children in groups of 2 roll the die and then program the bee to take the route that will lead them to success.

Activity unplugged coding. In order to have a first encounter with the concept of codes, students will have to decode on their worksheet the code that connects numbers to colors. They work on 3 different worksheets of graded difficulty. Discovering the association leads to a beautiful aesthetic result.

1. The young students are given worksheets of graded difficulty and are asked to decode the numerical/colour code (each number corresponds to a colour) on them and reveal the secret picture (Pixel Art).

2. On a table square track we place pictures of different parts of the Earth (pictures of forests, oceans, ice, atmosphere, etc.). Children in groups of three, program the satellite robot (Beebot) to pass by these points to collect data which it will send to Esa (end).

It is a great opportunity for students to learn the importance of kindness and inclusion both in the digital and physical worlds.

1. "Recreating the European flag" by placing the twelve yellow stars on a blue sheet. After analyzing the EU flag, they were provided with the stars and the blue sheet having a circle and marked places for the stars; first they placed the stars on the marked places and only after they glued them.

2. "Romanian jewelry": making bracelets with the national flag's colours by stringing the beads in series of three - red, yellow and blue.

An unplugged activity where students practice observation and image copying. There are flag sketch worksheets and the flags of different states (in colour). Children choose flags they want to colour by decoding the colour code of the flag they have chosen.

Children spin the wheel and in groups of 2-3 re-enact the movement they see. Decoding activity with physical exercise

The children had fun coloring and discovering the flags of the partner countries according to the color code.

An unplugged decoding activity. The children read a story about a visit from the Grimblons, aliens who live on a very dirty planet. During their tour of our planet they discover its beauties. Upon returning to their planet they leave a message to the people living on earth. But the message is written in the language of the Grimblons!

The young students are asked to crack the code with the help of the alphabet they are given. Each letter corresponds to a picture (Grimblon language). The children put the corresponding letters in place of the pictures and decipher the messages.

Using colored arrow cards, my young students mapped out Roby’s path on an activity sheet, engaging with coding in a more complex setting.

This task built on their understanding of sequencing and directional commands, helping them advance their coding skills in a playful and meaningful way.

Each student was given a map that mirrored the floor maze, complete with directional arrows indicating the correct path. Their challenge was to carefully read and follow the map, using the arrows as a guide to move through the maze from start to finish.

This hands-on activity aimed to deepen students' understanding of coding concepts, such as sequencing and directionality, while also reinforcing their spatial awareness and problem-solving skills.

By physically walking through the maze, my students were able to experience coding in a fun and dynamic way, making abstract coding concepts more concrete and engaging.
