Finland's non-discrimination acts requirements for Finnish educational institutions:

Equality planning:
Every school must prepare and implement a Non-Discrimination Plan.
Promotion duty:
Schools have a legal duty to actively promote equality in their activities.
Prevention of discrimination:
Schools must ensure that no student or staff member is discriminated against.
Reasonable accommodations:
Schools must provide reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities to ensure equal participation and prevent indirect discrimination.
Participation:
Students and staff should be involved in the preparation and evaluation of the equality plan. Their experiences and feedback must be taken into account.
Monitoring and updating:
The Non-Discrimination Plan and measures must be regularly reviewed, evaluated, and updated.

Diak diversity and equity plan 2025-2028 includes

Statistics about the diversity of staff and students
Principles, responsibilities, communication and annual subgoals for promoting equity at Diak
Monitoring of the equality situation with annual Diak Equality Survey. Via the survey staff and students can influence and contribute to Diak’s equality work and help steer its development in the right direction.

Planned actions (2025–2028):

Annual review of equality and non-discrimination measures by Diak’s management.
Strengthen accessibility in studies and work.
Support inclusive communication and language needs.
Prevent discrimination through training and awareness.
Ensure safe spaces and respectful encounters for staff and students.

Learning Café Instructions

Setup

3 tables with one host each.
Hosts stay at their table for the whole session.
Guests (the rest of the participants) rotate between tables.
Each host has an access to Padlet.

Process

Round 1 (15 min):
- Groups discuss the assigned topic at their table.
- Host takes notes to padlet and keeps the discussion focused.
Rotation:
- Guests move to the next table; hosts stay.
- Host gives a short recap of earlier points.
Round 2 (15 min):
- New group continues building on the discussion.
Rotation + Round 3 (15 min):
- Repeat once more so every group visits each table.

Wrap-up

Each host summarizes the main points from their table.

The Academic Wheel of Privilege is based on twenty identity types spanning seven categories: living and culture, caregiving, education and career, gender and sexuality, race, health and wellbeing and childhood and development. These identity types are shown as circles connected to three concentric rings (outer, middle and inner) of “identity” circles with increasing privilege as you go towards the centre. The effect of the concentric rings makes it appear like a funnel – the closer you get to the centre the more you’re likely to spiral into more privilege.
