Conduct the study <em>double-blind</em>. That is, make sure that neither the experimenter nor the subjects know which of the subjects is taking a slimming pill and which is getting the placebo, as well as one belief condition&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>5.          <description><![CDATA[<div>(1181100706)<br>Purpose : To determine the vitamin C content in various fruit juices.&nbsp;<br><br>Hypothesis : Lime juice contains higher concentration of vitamin C compared to orange juice.<br><br>Procedures:<br>1) 1 ml of DCPIP solution is placed in a speciment tube using a 1ml syringe.<br>2) 5ml syringe was filled with 5ml of 0.1% ascorbic acid solution.<br>3) The needle of the 5 ml was immersed into the DCPIP solution.&nbsp;<br>4) Ascorbic acid solution was added drop by drop until the DCPIP solution, and gently stirred with the needle of the syringe.<br>5)Ascorbic acid solution is added continuously until the DCPIP solution is decolourise.<br>6)The volume of ascorbic acid solution used measured using a syringe and recorded.<br>7)Step 1-6 are repeated using fresh&nbsp; orange juice and lime juice.<br>8) The volume of fruit juice required to decolourise the DCPIP solution&nbsp; in each fruit juices i measured using a syringe and recorded in a table.<br>9) The percentage and concentration of vitamin C in each fruit juices are calculated using the formula techniques.</div>]]></description>

Randomise the test subjects,shuffle them so as to not keep the subject stagnant.<br><br>2. Separate them into two groups: an experimental group and control group.<br><br>3. Give the experimental group several alcoholic beverage and the control group, several mock drinks which is non alcoholic.<br><br>4. Conduct the study double-blind to make sure that neither the experiment conductor nor the test subjects are aware of the parameters in which of the subjects are receiving the drink containing alcohol and which are getting the coloured drink.<br><br>5. After several hours, observe if the group which received the alcoholic drinks had a change in their usual behaviour and the group who received the coloured drinks not containing alcohol. If the experimental group who received the alcoholic drinks have a significant change in their behaviour while the control group who did not receive the alcoholic drinks did not have a change in their usual behaviour,&nbsp;<br><br>it can be concluded that alcoholic drinks affects a person's behaviour.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>(1181100300)<br>A study to evaluate whether wording questions a certain way could influence a participant’s recall by twisting their memories of a specific event. <br><br><strong>Purpose</strong>:&nbsp; To prove how deceiving memories can be.<br><br><strong>Hypothesis</strong>:&nbsp; Memory can be easily manipulated by questioning technique.<br><br><strong>Procedures</strong>:</div><ol><li>The participants watched slides of a car accident.</li><li>They were asked to describe what had happened as if they were eyewitnesses to the scene.&nbsp;</li><li>The participants were put into two groups.</li><li>The groups were questioned by two different questions.</li><li>The first group was asked to answer “how fast was the car driving at the time of impact?”.&nbsp;</li><li>The second group was asked on “how fast was the car going when it smashed into the other car?”</li></ol><div><br>The experimenters found that the use of different verbs affected the participants’ memories of the accident, showing that memory can be easily distorted.&nbsp; Information gathered after the event can merge with original memory causing incorrect recall or reconstructive memory. Hence, the hypothesis is accepted.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

If the platelet index of the patient in experimental group raise more higher than the controlled group, it means that the hypothesis is accepted.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Aim : To investigate whether  eating a lot of carrots can improve one's eyesight.<br><br>Hypothesis : Eating carrots cannot improve one's eyesight.<br><br>Procedure :<br>1) Randomly select a group of 20 students from a local university with different eyes' power ( or eyeglass prescription)<br>2) These students are given an eye examination so that the ophthalmologist can record their initial eyes' prescriptions.<br>3) Divide randomly each 10 students in two groups, one is an experimental group and the other is a controlled group.<br>4) Both groups are being treated equally, given rice and good amount of protein to eat for 2 weeks. Except, the experimental group would be given carrots as their fiber while the controlled group would be given broccoli as their fiber.<br>5) Conduct the study of double-blind. That is to make sure that neither the ophthalmologist nor the subjects know which of the subject is getting carrots as their fiber or getting broccoli as their fiber.<br>6) In 2 weeks, conduct an eye examination to check whether there are any improvement of the students' eyes' prescriptions. If there are no improvement of the students' eyesight in the experimental group, the hypothesis is accepted.<br><br>Hypothesis will be accepted if carrot does not improve the eyesight of the students.</div>]]></description>

Hypothesis: Mineral fluorine helps to prevent tooth decay.

Procedures:
1.  Randomly select a large number of students from the whole population.

2.  Randomly divide them into 2 groups: an experimental group and a control group. 

3.  Treat the two groups exactly alike, except that give the experimental group a toothpaste with the presence of mineral fluorine and give the control group a placebo, which is a toothpaste with the absence of mineral fluorine.

 4. Conduct the study double-blind. That is, make sure that neither the experimenter nor the subjects know which of the subjects is using a toothpaste with the mineral fluorine present and which is getting the placebo. 

5. After  3 weeks, perform a dental checkup for the whole group to see if the presence and absence of mineral fluorine in the toothpaste affects the rate to tooth decay. If experimental group’s students have less dental cavities compared to the control group, it is reasonable to conclude that mineral fluorine helps to prevent tooth decay.

Hypothesis is accepted, if conclusion proves to be true.

Purpose: To investigate whether drink water cooked with papaya leaf can treat dengue efficiently.

Hypothesis: By drinking water cooked with papaya leaf can treat dengue more efficiently.

Procedures: 
1) A group of 30 patient who suffer from dengue are selected randomly.
2) The patient are divided into two groups.15 patient in a group and formed one experimental group with 15 patient and one controlled group with 15 patient.
3)The patient in the experimental group are given water cooked with papaya leaf and medicine to treat dengue.
4)The patient in the controlled group are given plain water and medicine to treat dengue.
5)The patient in both group must be blindfolded, nobody would know they are drinking the plain water or water cooked with papaya leaf.
6) After a few days, check the  platelet index of all patient.
7) Step 1 until step 6 were repeated with another group of 30 patient to obtain more accurate result.

The validity of hypothesis depends on the platelet index of the patient. If the platelet index of the patient in experimental group raise more higher than the controlled group, it means that the hypothesis is accepted.

A study to evaluate whether wording questions a certain way could influence a participant’s recall by twisting their memories of a specific event. 

Purpose:  To prove how deceiving memories can be.

Hypothesis:  Memory can be easily manipulated by questioning technique.

Procedures:
The participants watched slides of a car accident.
They were asked to describe what had happened as if they were eyewitnesses to the scene. 
The participants were put into two groups.
The groups were questioned by two different questions.
The first group was asked to answer “how fast was the car driving at the time of impact?”. 
The second group was asked on “how fast was the car going when it smashed into the other car?”

The experimenters found that the use of different verbs affected the participants’ memories of the accident, showing that memory can be easily distorted.  Information gathered after the event can merge with original memory causing incorrect recall or reconstructive memory. Hence, the hypothesis is accepted.

Controlled Experiment : To investigate whether eating raisins before an examination helps improve memory. 

A group of 30 randomly selected students are divided into two groups of 15 students each. 

Hypothesis: Eating raisins before an examination helps improve memory. 

Procedures : 

1.       30 students are selected at random from a population of students. 
2.       The students are divided into two groups of 15 students each, one being the experimental group and the other, the controlled group. 
3.       The students in the experimental group are provided with a packet of raisins each and are required to consume it. 
4.       Students in the controlled group are given packets of brown colored jelly beans as placebo and are required to consume it. 
5.       As the study is conducted as double blind, neither the participants nor the main experimenter would know which students consumed the placebo and the raisins respectively. 
6.       The students are then required to sit for a memory test 5 minutes after they consumed the provided raisins and jelly beans. 
7.       Steps 1 to 6 are repeated with another group of 30 students to test the validity of the findings. 


 The hypothesis tested may be accepted if the experimental group scores higher in the memory test over several rounds of the experiment.

A controlled study: To determine whether Someone who consumes alcohol affects the cognitive response of the person. A group is selected at random and is sorted into an experimental group and control group, only one group is exposed to the experimental condition but none are aware as to which group until the experiment is complete.

1. Randomise the test subjects,shuffle them so as to not keep the subject stagnant.

2. Separate them into two groups: an experimental group and control group.

3. Give the experimental group several alcoholic beverage and the control group, several mock drinks which is non alcoholic.

4. Conduct the study double-blind to make sure that neither the experiment conductor nor the test subjects are aware of the parameters in which of the subjects are receiving the drink containing alcohol and which are getting the coloured drink.

5. After several hours, observe if the group which received the alcoholic drinks had a change in their usual behaviour and the group who received the coloured drinks not containing alcohol. If the experimental group who received the alcoholic drinks have a significant change in their behaviour while the control group who did not receive the alcoholic drinks did not have a change in their usual behaviour, 

it can be concluded that alcoholic drinks affects a person's behaviour.

Purpose : To determine the vitamin C content in various fruit juices. 

Hypothesis : Lime juice contains higher concentration of vitamin C compared to orange juice.

Procedures:
1) 1 ml of DCPIP solution is placed in a speciment tube using a 1ml syringe.
2) 5ml syringe was filled with 5ml of 0.1% ascorbic acid solution.
3) The needle of the 5 ml was immersed into the DCPIP solution. 
4) Ascorbic acid solution was added drop by drop until the DCPIP solution, and gently stirred with the needle of the syringe.
5)Ascorbic acid solution is added continuously until the DCPIP solution is decolourise.
6)The volume of ascorbic acid solution used measured using a syringe and recorded.
7)Step 1-6 are repeated using fresh  orange juice and lime juice.
8) The volume of fruit juice required to decolourise the DCPIP solution  in each fruit juices i measured using a syringe and recorded in a table.
9) The percentage and concentration of vitamin C in each fruit juices are calculated using the formula techniques.

Hypothesis: XXX brand of whitening body lotion can whiten the skin.

Procedures: 
1.      Randomly select a large number of people from the whole population.

3.      Treat the two groups exactly alike, except that giving the XXX brand of whitening body lotion to the experimental group and a placebo which is an ordinary body lotion without any specific function to the control group.
4.      Conduct the study double-blind. Make sure that neither the scientists nor the subjects know which of the subjects is getting the whitening body lotion and which is getting the placebo.
5.      After a month, check to see if there is a statistically significant difference in the whiteness of the skin in two groups. If the skin of the experimental group becomes significantly whiter than the skin of the control group, it is reasonable to conclude that the XXX brand of whitening body lotion can whiten the skin.

Hypothesis: Slimming pill can help to slim the body.
 
 1.  Randomly select a large number of students from the whole population in MMU

2.  Randomly divide them into 2 groups: an experimental group and a control group. 

3.  Treat the two groups exactly alike, except that give the experimental group a slimming pill and give the control group a placebo, which is look similar to the slimming pill.

 4. Conduct the study double-blind. That is, make sure that neither the experimenter nor the subjects know which of the subjects is taking a slimming pill and which is getting the placebo, as well as one belief condition 

5. After  3 week ,  check for significance difference in the numbers of students from each group who get better result in slimming their body. If experimental group’s students getting slimmer compared to control group, it is reasonable to conclude that slimming pill help to slim the body.

If the experimental group has more  people who get cured from flu,it is reasonable to conclude that ginger drink can cure flu.

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Aim: To investigate whether drinking soup as substitute to rice reduces body weight or not.<br>Hypothesis: Drinking soup as substitute to rice reduces body weight rapidly.<br>Procedures: <br>1.Randomly select 2 female students of same age with 80kg weight and 165cm height.<br>2.Student A is given one bowl soup with 150g of proteins and 150g of vegetable twice in a day at 11am and 6pm.<br>3.Student B is given 100 g of rice with 150g of proteins and 150g of vegetable twice in a day at 11am and 6pm.<br>4.The study was conducted double blind to ensure that the experiment result will the accurate .<br>5. After 15 days, the body weight of student A showed 75kg meanwhile student B showed 78kg.<br><br>Thus, it is proven that drinking soup as an alternative to rice can reduce weight.</div>]]></description>

Conduct the study double-blind to make sure that neither the scientist nor the subjects know which is getting what type of songs.<br><br>5. The experiment should go on for 30 minutes and in between the scientist can observe the subjects' emotion change.<br><br>6. One of these groups will have breakfast in the morning before taking the test and the other group will not have breakfast. </li><li>Have all your test subjects gather in a classroom to prepare for the test. </li><li>Project random numbers on the overhead projector for 30 seconds.</li><li>Take the transparency off the projector and ask your test subjects to write down all the numbers in order that they can remember in space #1.</li><li>Continue projecting numbers until you reach 10 sets of numbers.</li><li>Repeat the above at least twice weekly.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Hypothesis :&nbsp;<br>Flies show a selectivity of response to sugars based on molecular size and structure.<br><br>Procedure:<br>1.Stuck flies to popsickle sticks by pushing their wings into a sticky wax that<br>rubbed on the sticks.<br><br>2. Then, make a dilution series of glucose, maltose, and sucrose in<br>one-half log molar steps from the 1M<br>concentrations of the sugars we were given<br><br>3.Test the flies’ sensory perception by<br>giving each fly the chance to feed from each sugar, starting with the lowest concentration<br>and working up.<br><br>4.Rinse the flies between tests by swishing their feet in distilled water.&nbsp;<br><br>5.Count a positive response whenever a fly lowered its proboscis.<br><br>6.To ensure that<br>positive responses were to sugars and not to water, let them drink distilled water before<br>each test.<br><br><br>Therefore,Hypothesis is accepted.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
