In my own country, gender stereotypes are very rigid and girls are always expected to be less than boys. Boys are seen to be more capable that girls in areas such as academics. This automatically leads to boys or men getting more responsibility and girls, when they are in a position of authority, to be belittled or ignored. This being continued on for a long time lead to girls thinking this as an obvious phenomenon which is making it harder to reach gender equality.

Growing up, my other girl friends and I were expected to learn how to cook, clean and do other feminine-considered activities, while boys were always taught to do more masculine-considered things like sports or martial arts. Adults in Vietnam also don't have high academic expectations for girls as much as boys.

Back then, women were known to not have as many rights as men do, but the situation is better now. Although some people today still believe women have less rights, for example, I would often hear my own grandmother and father say “men don’t have to do chores, they work and get paid. Chores are women’s tasks.” People deem/assume that women can’t accomplish as much as men do.

I believe that we all do have a lot of insecurities. They can be about our appearance, academic results, illnesses, and most of those insecurities are formed from the unrealistic standards that the society has created and has been making us to pursue. I am expected to know how to cook, to look good, to have "thigh gaps", "bikini body", but many people don't even bother to care if I'm actually feeling good. In my country- Vietnam, women are expected to achieve unrealistic image in order to be acknowledged and rewarded, while just being born biologically a boy/man is an honor to the whole family. While men are believed to be the descendants of the family, woman are believed to be the cook, the housewife, the caregiver.

This lessens the the expectations from girls restricts them from doing many activities that are necessary in their lives. An example of this is education, which is less common for girls than with boys.

Like it's only been recently normalized in Indian culture to let your daughters prioritize education or work.

Also, I think I can speak for most females when I say that we are urged to cover up, don't go out, etc. instead of teaching the guys to control themselves

Women are expected if they choose to work, to do unpaid labor e.g taking care of the children with it while men are held to a much lower standard.

Comments on our bodies and appearance have been normalized.

I'm expected to act and be a certain way in my family just because I'm a girl. I have to act a certain way otherwise it is not lady-like. They act like they won't accept me if my future isn't family-oriented. As women, we are associated with being weak or incapable and should stay at home to take care of the kids. For so long, society has viewed the only suitable job for women as being a housewife that my accomplishments are seen as inferior to a man's.
