Regular practice with complex text and its academic language means to me that we have the students continually practice writing though activities such as writing in their journals. We have them practice their vocabulary by writing sentences to remember their words better.

To me regular practice with complex text and its academic language means that we engage students in text that will challenge them to learn new vocabulary through context clues. In order for students to grasp vocabulary words successfully we must have them read text that allow them to uncover the meaning. It is then important that we have students define vocabulary words once they have been exposed and encourage them to use it in speaking and writing.
