It is important to know that health information you get online is valid information. This is important because sometimes the internet includes false and misleading information (pg 2). Something you can do to ensure the information you receive is valid is to see who wrote the website. The website should make it easy to find who is responsible for the provided information (pg 3). Another helpful tip to make sure the information is valid is to see how current (or not current) the data is (pg 4). If the information is old, it is likely the information is outdated and no longer correct. Knowing and finding valid health information is important to your personal health in order to ensure you are not receiving false or misleading information.

When doing research about my back injury, I looked at dozens of different online sources. When trying to figure out if the information I was finding was valid, I was surprised at the number of websites that didn't have a page where I could find out who was responsible for the information. When I finally found a source I was sure was reliable, I was able to compare its information to that of other reliable sources and figure out that my injury, although painful, was not too serious and that I would be able to learn exercises to help me that I could do at home.
