Molly Pitcher, took up her husband’s task of tamping the cannon, a musket ball at one point tearing between her legs. She replied to the men; “It is a very good thing it did not go higher!” and she continued her work. These men gave up their times at home, their comfort, and their son for Freedom and Liberty. “I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations.”― James Madison. The people had dealt with slowly losing their freedoms, and they declared never again. This was a fierce time, and the American people needed to know there would be stability, and one that was not a tyrant like the man before. John Marshall wrote: “The people made the Constitution, and the people can unmake it. It is the creature of their will, and lives only by their will.” They chose to make a document for the people, by the people, and of the people. Each man signing documents that would surly gain him a title in immortality, or the hangman’s noose. One that can be changed or questioned if it means the better for the American people. ““If the federal government should overpass the just bounds of its authority and make a tyrannical use of its powers, the people, whose creature it is, must appeal to the standard they have formed, and take such measures to redress the injury done to the Constitution as the exigency may suggest and prudence justify.” -Alexander Hamilton. It is easy to quote the founding fathers, they had so much wisdom, I can only hope I can glean what I can from them. For a mere $30 they had the constitution penned, and they soon signed. Giving our people freedom and peace and liberty. Giving us a hope and a future. Giving people like me niece and nephew the chance to have a future free from tyranny and repression. These men are heroes, but so modest, they probably would not accept the title.
