Elijah reassured her that God will provide food for them until the rains returned. He asked for her to make his bread first then for them both
The widow obeyed because she trusted the Lord. God is a man of his word, God kept his promise by ensuring that their flour and old were never depleted.

We should always be generous to the poor as Luke 11:41 says that we should do generous thing to the poor and we shall be rewarded.
