In this session, we discussed the meeting Trump and Putin had. I looked for information about it and that lead me to look information to the consequential meeting that happened today, august 19th, between Trump and Zelensky.

I have to admit I didn't know much about the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, and the ongoing meetings. But after all, I'm glad I researched on it because it is actually interesting and essential to know about this global issues.

But as my reflection on the topic, I understand Ukraine's president point, he is declaring that there cannot be space to create a peace treaty, if there isn't a ceasefire. On the other hand, Russia won't give it up because, as Putin says, they have to eliminate the problem from the root, meanwhile the Ukrainians are suffering.

Trump's position in all of this, as a representative of the U.S.A. is mediate the conflict and try to get both presidents into a meeting so they can solve it.

The U.S.A. is offering help but Trump didn't state how. Trump views Putin as a good president, meanwhile, last president, Biden, and multiple other European countries representatives, they view him as a murderous dictator.

I stand on Ukraines side, and believe that if you wanna solve a conflict, you can't take the liberty of time as if people weren't dying. Action needs to be taken as soon as posible.

Resources

Myre, G. (2025). After meeting Putin, Trump changes his position on the need for a ceasefire.

For me, this weekend brought a lot of chaos. In Queretaro we had hard times since Friday due to the rains.

On the other hand, the infrastructure of the state was heavily damaged, even our on school to the point we have to take classes online. I believed this shows we do not have the necessary plans for disasters like this, not even in school.

This is where I looked up into what news had to say about it, I read this article where it talks all about it, EL PAIS mentioned all the information, and it is devastating reading all of it again, gives me a glimpse of all I could feel and not in those moments, it leads me to questioning if Queretaro is ready for disasters likes this, or maybe worse, people talk about how good it is in stuff like security or economy, but is actually? money os not being correctly invested in the necessary projects for safety.

Resources

Garrido, V.

This week we returned to presencial classes, to be honest, I rather be at home and have online school, Im more comfortable and relaxed, but seeing the good side on it, I can see my friends and socialize. It was a hard week, I had 3 exams, and next week it's gonna be the same, but now partials, kinda worried but I know I can do it if I study. On the learning part, the two past weeks we talked about some interesting stuff, stereotypes, and I had a reflection on what they actually are, i loved the relation Chimamanda made on how they are an only story in her TED talk, it was really inspiring and it led me to questioning. Stereotypes could be defined as the set of ideas we have of something or someone without actually knowing them, there's where I ask to myself how actually dangerous it is to believe in those ideals, it limits our ability to think critically and build our own opinion. It is dangerous for us as citizens of the world to be this ignorant towards others, we need to open our minds and embrace knowledge. I think this semester is gonna be full of new learnings, more than academic, life lessons.

Resources

Ngozy, C. (2009). The danger of a single story.

This week, along with the past one, has been hard, a lot of tests and activities had lead to difficulties on my mental and physical state. But thankfully it is now Friday, tests are over and Im hanging out with my friends. So Im now happy! Good thing about this is all the stuff made me grow and learn new things. Im now more prepared for new challenges. The good stuff doesn't come in the easy way, just as mentioned in the test actually! Things will and are going better :)

Talking more politically, this week I was able to learn more about globalization, which is defined by National Geographic as "how trade and technology have made the world into a more connected and interdependent place". And even tho it does explain us what is globalization, I believe it goes deeper than that, it's a tool for us to dive into the world not as strangers but as people who know what is going on. Looking into being a multicultural citizen makes life easier, it gives you patience, respect and love for learning

Resources

National Geographic. (2025). Globalization.

As always, this first week was for introduction, which by being in 5th semesters is a little bit awkward as we all know everyone by now. But it is never bad to share more about you.

I'm Regina Larrauri Montoya, most people call me Regina, I think I've never been a Regi but when people call me that I find it cute.

I'm 17 years old, my birthday is on march 4th so I'm not missing a lot to turn 18, exciting but scary.

I was proudly born in Mexico City, and I will always remark my love for that city, full of life, culture, love and knowledge, you never catch yourself being bored over there, I miss it sooo much.

I'm the older sister, we are only two daughters but being the older one has had an impact in my life that is unbeaten to anything in life, caring for my sister and watching her grow is one of the greatest joys in my life.

As I said, I was born in Mexico City, so I studied over there until I was around 15 years old, almost did all my basic schooling there. But as now, I love attending school in PrepaTec campus Qro.

On what I like, I love animals in general, I have a white shark tattoo, it was my first one and it has a deep meaning for me but I always find a hard time trying to explain its meaning, I also love horses, in fact, I practice American rodeo and it brings me so much appreciation to life, the adrenaline and power it gives me, I love it.

I also love traveling, I believe it's a way of constant learning and the best way to learn about the culture of a country, full of life and knowledge.

And finally but not less important, what I love more than anything is being with my friends and family, I find it comforting in hard times, they give me peace, love, courage, and self-esteem while making me laugh, such a beautiful way to appreciate life.

That's a bit about me :)

Even tho we are barely starting this week, I sense it's full of new challenges and events.

What I think it's just as important is that Mexico brought home two silver medals from the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, one in shot put and another in the women’s 20km walk. Which I believe are really important for Mexico as a country, reinforcing the nations nationalism and by being proud of the country.

That leads me to defining what is nationalism. "until the end of the 18th century that nationalism began to be a generally recognized sentiment molding public and private life and one of the great, if not the greatest, single determining factors of modern history." (Britannica, n.d.).

I perceive myself as a nationalist person, I feel extremely connected to my country and makes me proud to be Mexican, but it is important to mark that by being proud, you don't identify with all the bad in the country, I wish all that could be solves, as I feel connected to my roots, the culture, the history and the people.

Let's see what else can be learned this week.

Resources:

Pateman, B.

As I was reading the news for this week, I didn't find any "relevant" content that's occurring specifically this week, but I did came across some concerning information, which I believe is extremely important to approach.

This article, written by Sam Mednick and Sally Abou, tells the story of women in Gaza that are promised food and medicine in exchange for work, but when they are supposed to arrive into an office, they are received in an empty apartment, and men are expecting a sexual encounter in exchange for what they promised.

I recommend you read this article with an open mind for problems outside your bubble. Because most times we tend to assume there are no worse problems than ours, but the truth is, our type of problems, most of the time, are a blessing. We don't have to agree on something we don't want just to survive.

And it makes me sad all of this is happening as I write about it, this women say the data shown it's just the tip of the iceberg, I can't even imagine myself in a situation like that, thankfully, instead Im giving visibility to the problem so we don't act strangers to what's happening around the world.

Hard to think we all live in the same planet, how lucky am I that I can write this? time to truly appreciate us and the situation that surrounds us. While informing ourselves, so we give voice to those who can't.

References

Abou, S. & Mednick, S. (2025).

So this week was full of events, but one that kept my special attention is the Mexicans who participated in the Gaza flotilla are now being repatriated to the country.

I read this article on EL PAIS, and it basically explains how six Mexicans among other 443 activists from other countries were captured into the maximum security prison of Ketzio (the largest in the country), being horribly treated as they state "If they have been able to treat us like this, many of whom are Westerners and from countries that maintain relations with Israel, what will they not do with Palestinian prisoners". (EL PAIS, 2025).

This leaves me thinking about the situation and how only 6 Mexicans tried to help by delivering supplies of food, is our country trying to do something else?

I think all of this leads to a reflection on our country and ourselves, why as individuals are we not doing anything, and most of us, not even informed.

Im glad I was brought into this topic, which I will research more about.

On other types of news, Mexico was eliminated from The World Cup Sub-20. I find it sad, because I had actual hope for it. I consider myself a big soccer fan, it's a passion I share with my dad, so watching it gave me chills. Even though we were eliminated this time, I think great work was done, there has been a notorious change into the mentalities of the players, such as Gilberto Mora. It makes me proud talent in our country is flourishing.

References:

Rodriguez, D. (2025). Los seis mexicanos que participaron en la flotilla a Gaza son repatriados al país.

This week has been a chaos, a lot has happened and a lot more is coming.

Firstly, we need to address the floods and the people that been affected from this. It has left more than 100 people dead and even more disappeared, and the response from the government has been terrible, it's scary how they are managing chaos.

I also saw the Louvre museum was robbed, I've been there so it surprises me how that happened, I saw it difficult to do so but no I see its not.

And this Monday we had the pleasure of receiving The Panamerican Race, I attended the conference we had here in PrepaTec and it was actually interesting listening to "El chapulin".

I believe this week had a lot going on but nothing at the same time.

So this Sunday we had the Grand Prix in Mexico City, even though Im not a big fan of F1, I think its a cool sport, and looking up about it, Lando Norris won the championship. Im expecting when Checo comes back, that's a big representation for Mexico.

In class we had this woman come in and talk about menstruation, and all the stuff that revolves around it, the projects she has and how she works. I found all that information so appealing, I appreciate we had a space like that in class, not only for women but for men too, its important they know about it, men being informed is key in a country ruled by them.

This week I read an article about the growing violence and extortion suffered by lemon farmers in Michoacán, Mexico. The report focused on the murder of Bernardo Bravo, an agricultural leader who dared to denounce the criminal groups controlling the region’s lemon production. In Tierra Caliente, cartels such as the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación and Los Viagras have taken over the fields, demanding high “quotas” from farmers in exchange for allowing them to work. Those who refuse to pay or speak out face death threats, kidnappings, and murders. Bravo’s death became a tragic symbol of what it costs to demand justice in a land ruled by fear. Despite the courage of a few, most farmers have been forced into silence, trapped between poverty and terror.

Reading about the situation in Michoacán made me reflect on how deeply violence can infiltrate daily life and destroy entire communities. Something as simple as producing lemons, has become a dangerous act of resistance. It is heartbreaking to see that justice and protection seem absent, leaving ordinary people to face powerful criminal forces alone.

Reference

Varela, M. (2025).

This weekend a tragedy happened, the mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo was killed.

According to El País, he was executed during Saturday's night, in the celebrations of Dia de Muertos. This tragedy took the murders of mayors up to 6 persons in 2025.

He was known for calling upon insecurity and drug cartels being responsible for most of it. He had received many threats but he was not scared, he was raising his voice for his people, and he got killed for doing what no one else in government powers does.

More than recalling what happened, this made me reflect on how bad and sad the situation is in our country for governmental authorities to be publicly murder, it's a call for help. Both ways I can't understand how there's people that still support this government with all the information and actions happening, but at the same time I do understand, because I see their realities and the way the see the country, so from a perspective where you don't have anything but you don't want anyone else to have it, I understand it, but it's sad they believe communism will save this country, when it's the opposite.

References

EL PAÍS.

A lot is happening in our country, and there's more to come.

Tied to what happened with Carlos Manzo last week, the president Claudia Sheinbaum tried to take away attention from this problematic and in her morning conferences she talked about being groped in the street.

It's so sad how our president is acting and moderating things, because of course it doesn't mean this assaults can happen to anyone, especially in our country, but her being the president and the person with the most security guards around her, and this just happening when people are realizing she has this out of control.

And now, instead of attending what is actually happening, she's focused on creating a presidential plan to confront what happened to her.

But the main reason she's trying to put the lights away, is because of the massive protest coming in November 15th.

The country is realizing how things are, we are going into the same path as Venezuela or Cuba, this people are not trying to get us all in good life conditions, they want all of us to be poor, to suffer and not have a life. All of this thinking surprises me but makes me realize, how the different living conditions and the situations that happen to each individual, shape their critical thinking.

Now what is left, is to keep updated with how our county is moving, hoping it results in the best, because it is true that the revocation of her presidency, could fall into even worse hands.

References:

Lopez, O.

This week was a rough week with a lot going on. First, Im proud to say Mexico won Miss Universe with Fatima Bosch, although I don't know that much about this competition, any Mexican representing our country, makes me fully proud of the work they achieve. As always, people are saying she didn't deserve it, but it's a matter of time until they forget it.

Especially the assassination of the mayor of Uruapan and the protests led by young people are big news. I find it very worrying that violence continues to reach public figures and that citizens, particularly Generation Z, feel the need to take to the streets to demand justice and security. I believe these demonstrations reflect people’s exhaustion with impunity and lack of results, and I hope they truly lead to change. It’s also alarming to see the ongoing seizures of fentanyl and weapons, which shows how the problem of organized crime keeps growing. I feel that Mexico urgently needs more effective strategies and authorities that genuinely act for the well-being of the population, not only when there is media pressure.

References

Benito, A.
