The World Economic Forum has developed a list of 10 skills young people should develop for success in job markets. School subjects contribute to you developing these skills. You can further develop skills through non subject activities you take part in, both in School and out of School. It is important you reflect on the skills you are developing so you can tell future college admissions tutors and employers WHAT YOU CAN DO

Subjects you take in School are developed to help you develop essential skills for your future. You will practice problem solving, communicating, listening, presenting, developing creative ideas and solutions, team work and leadership skills. You will also be encouraged to stay positive and aim high - important qualities to survive once you have finished your secondary education. The link to the BBC website showcases different subjects and the skills you can learn and develop from them. Also, reflect on the skills you developed when you moved from your small primary school to Holy Family. What can you do now that you couldn't before?

A crucial step at the beginning of your career journey is to build your self knowledge. There will be an opportunity for you to think about this in PDP. Make a mental note (or create a me map) of things you enjoy getting involved in and what you seem good at. When you choose options in the future, you are going to be more motivated to work hard at things you enjoy. Also consider what you need to improve so little holds you back.

Some of your experiences along with overhearing what some adults/young people believe, can lead you to limit your career chances. Be wary of this - don't dismiss an option because you think it might be difficult for someone of your sex, religion, gender choice, class or colour to achieve. Sometimes you may have to overcome a barrier or perception to achieve your goal, but in Holy Family you will find support to do this. Check out the link above that describes people who have started career journeys overcoming some hurdles on the way.
