1. We are of the opinion that the concept of scaffolding is most useful to teachers. In the classroom, teachers need to break down the content of their lessons into meaningful chunks so that their students can more easily process new information. Scaffolding allows teachers to assist students in bridging the gap between prior knowledge and new understanding. By breaking novel content into smaller pieces, teachers are better able to help students progress in their learning and acquire new skills.

We are of the opinion that Vygotsky's work intersects more strongly with the concept of language development. To be sure, Piaget acknowledges the centrality of language development to the growth of children and highlights its emergence during the preoperational stage. At this stage, learners make enormous progress in their language development, reflecting their growth in the ability to use symbols. Language also plays an important role in the resolution of disequilibrium, another concept of importance for Piaget. At the same time, Vygotsky identifies language as a cultural tool that plays an essential role in the acquisition of new knowledge. Whereas Piaget acknowledges the functional role of language in learning, Piaget argues that language serves as the context and vehicle for all learning. For Vygotsky, language gives us access to a culture's cultural tools, the concepts and symbols that allow us to think, solve problems, and function in society. In this sense, we believe that Vygotsky makes a stronger case for the centrality of language to learning.
