ProAV supplies everything related to professional video production (tripod, sound, lights, cameras). Students, universities, broadcasters, kit houses, and people filming Netflix shows are some of ProAV's customers.

    The ProAV employee mentioned that if new equipment is released, it is important to be aware of it, as well as the type of equipment different sectors of the industry are using as we may be working with them. This is to understand the equipment they are using so that we can be aware of the quality of work we will be producing. He also mentioned being comfortable swapping and using new equipment because they all do the same thing but with different settings, so we should be familiar with the basics (camera). The ProAV employee mentioned, "Don't shine away from any equipment". 

    He advised us to practice using the equipment available at our university, which we have free access to. We will not have access to this equipment after graduating from university and will have to purchase it ourselves (they are extremely expensive). We might not be able to use this equipment again.

    He mentions that when looking for help in this industry on YouTube, be careful who you watch because there are people who have brand loyalty and people with a lot of experience. All of the workshops taught me that while all cameras do the same thing (take pictures and videos), they differ in terms of features and settings. The workshops have convinced me that I need to purchase my first camera in order to practice my videography and photography skills, which are required in the industry in which I am studying and intend to work. It's critical for me to learn as much as I can about old and new technology in the TV industry so that I'm up to date and know how to use the equipment. After attending all of the workshops I did further research into the cameras we looked at to make me understand more about their features. I used the CVP, Sony and Canon's websites to help me find this information. 

    I asked each workshop to recommend a good entry-level camera. After reviewing all of the recommended starter cameras, I've decided that I'd like to purchase the Canon R5C because I understand all of the features that make it easier for me to use. The ProAV employee also stated that his favourite camera is the Canon R5C. The Canon R5C is new and came out a couple of weeks ago meaning is quite expensive. I got to see the Canon R5C in person at the Canon workshop, which I absolutely loved.

    Before attending the CVP workshop I didn't know who they were. I now know that they are the leading Broadcasting and Professional video solution providers. The workshop was very informative because I got to physically see high-end cameras and even try them out. I was able to examine all of the cameras that CVP brought to the workshop. As I'm looking to buy a camera for myself I will all seek assistance from CVP and ask them more about the Canon R5C and for them to also recommend more cameras to me. 

    The ProAV workshop was very informative as the employee gave some great advice which I will implement. I will make sure I take out different equipment from the university and practice using them as I may not get an opportunity to ever use them again as they are extremely expensive. I have also set myself a goal this year which is to try out every role in our productions such as sound, vision mixing, producing and directing. I want to gain experience in everything so I know what I enjoy doing the most.

    Attending the Sony workshop surprised me because I'd never used any Sony cameras before, so seeing the different cameras was interesting. I tried out some of the cameras, and my favourite among the Sony cameras was the A74 because it was simple to use and I quickly learned how to use it. This is another camera I am considering buying. 

    The Canon workshop was my favourite because I found a camera that I'd like to purchase. Out of all the cameras, I saw this week, the Canon ones were the most comfortable and easy for me to use because they were touchscreen, lightweight and had a clear structure. 

    Attending the JISC workshop was really beneficial because I now have another way to find research for my course. It is now clear to me how to use the JISC website after being shown a tutorial. I will definitely be using this website to help conduct any of my research. 

    Reading the 'Television Production' book was helpful because I can now refer to it if I ever need help and support with anything in the television industry. Learning some cool photography and videography information was very interesting because I now have some hacks I can use whenever I use a camera to create some cool illusions.

    This week, while directing my short drama series, I had the opportunity to experiment with different Canon lenses (wide lens and standard lens), which helped me understand the different effects lenses can have in a film. We used the C500 camera. 

    The R&D week was very beneficial to me because I researched on various cameras, which has now given me more confidence in using them. In my next university project, I plan to use a different camera and, if possible, a rig because I know how simple they are to use. I've also learned some cool camera tricks that I'll definitely try out in the future. We live in a generation where cameras have become simpler and easier to use, which means that an increasing number of people use cameras daily - photography, videography, vlogging, etc. This book discusses the television pre-production, production, and post-production processes. This book has a section on 'What the camera can do' which suggests some things camera's can do such as: what different lens does (e.g. wide lens give a big view of the scene and the subject looks distant) and what different shots are (point of view shot). As I am studying Television Production, this book is extremely useful to me because it contains sections on almost every topic (the equipment, editing and production team and their roles).
