Humanism is a characteristic of the Renaissance that deals with the dignity and value of human beings in society. This concept strengthened the critical spirit of individuals and is closely related to anthropocentrism and rationality, which will be described next.
The characteristics of the Renaissance indicate that the movement had a philosophical, artistic, and literary character simultaneously. The appreciation of humanism, reason, anthropocentrism, and scientific knowledge are hallmarks of the movement. It is also the birthplace of thinkers such as John Locke and René Descartes.
Renaissance anthropocentrism is related to the change in thinking characteristic of the medieval transition. While in feudalism there was a strong influence of the church and the social regime was theocentric, with the Renaissance man assumes a prominent position for political, social, economic, etc. decisions.
Rationalism represents the quest for knowledge and new learning. In this sense, it represents "the belief in the human critical power to understand beings and the universe in a broad, complex, and multifaceted way."
Renaissance seem to complement each other, in a way that they chain together and build the concept of the movement. With scientism is no different, the appreciation of science arises from rationalism, for example.

A high point of the scientific discoveries was the invention of the printing press. Through it, many works were reproduced and became more accessible. As a result, obtaining information is no longer restricted to a select group of people and becomes more comprehensive.
Universalism follows a line of thought that believes in the power of Renaissance man to conceive opinions on a wide variety of subjects. These individuals were called polymaths - those who know many sciences.

A great example of a Renaissance polymath was the painter, sculptor, botanist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, scientist, poet, and musician, Leonardo da Vinci.
