secret shadow soul

I love the alliteration in this line, as it pulls together the ideas of a soul that is secreted away, a shadow, not its full self in the light.

CHANGE

“And so I will raise her to be shield, sword, spear:
to turn clasped hands into heated hatchet,
to hold razors between her teeth
to cut unkind advances with the sharpest eyes." - Elizabeth Acevedo... I like this line from "Spear" because it not only has a harsh sound to it, as she's raising her daughter to stand up for herself in a world that is harsh to women, but it advocates for change in the way we discuss consent and bodies and gender and 🤬 all in general.
