the household has been living in gohyang town as early as the first settlers but have always kept themselves lowkey. their love for art and all things shellfish transcended through generations as was the responsibility to watch over the crab museum.

                — his first steps —

dongmin was born in the local hospital during a hot summer day when the sun was raging high in the sky, and the waves were crashing violently against the shores of the beach. it was right after a fight that seonghwa, dongmin's father, and yoona, dongmin's mother, had.

his mother had just found out about the mountain of debt that her husband had gotten himself into which triggered her into delivering the baby prematurely.

when dongmin was born, the doctors had almost called for his time of death for the babe did not cry at delivery nor did the babe cry for the next few minutes.

when he did cry a few minutes later, the doctors would deem his survival a miracle.

however, his parents would quickly find things odd about the child. he was far quieter than other kids his age and had little to no facial expressions when he was talking. the doctors would later diagnose him with aspergers syndrome.

                   — growing up —

growing up, dongmin was faced with bullying and being shunned by other children his age.

the other children at his school had social lives that were normal — they were able to communicate with each other socially but he couldn't. instead, he found himself drawn to encyclopaedias about shellfish and other knowledge materials.

what made things worse for him was the fact that he was academically gifted on a level far beyond those of his peers and he would find himself feeling bored, eventually to the extent of correcting even his own teachers.

this would lead to them realizing that public school was not the right choice for him. he would be wasting his talent if he stayed but his parents were not financially capable of sending him to a special school either so instead, they sent him to college at the young age of 12.

eventually, dongmin would find himself graduating college quickly and from there, he'd go to work at his family's crab museum.

he would become a popular tour guide at the museum who had plenty of fun facts to share, and he would become almost an attraction at the museum himself with his intelligence and social awkwardness which was oftentimes deemed cute.
